bassmaster8100 Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Purchased my first Lew's reel today, a speed spool. Always been a Shimano guy but decided to give Lew's a try since I've heard a lot of good things about them. Gonna use it for crankbaits, I have a Denali Rosewood 7'11 crankbait rod ordered that will be in on Wednesday so looking forward to trying it out. Quote
papajoe222 Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 I purchased one recently and it has become my cranking reel of choice. For me backlashes and cranking were partners as I was always attempting to get extra distance on my casts. This reel has all but eliminated that tendency and although the retrive speed is a little fast, I will take the trade off of slowing myself down over backlashing every day. Sounds like it's going to be a great combo. Enjoy Quote
KC5TTC Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Looks like you have a great setup. I have all Lew's reels and all Denali Rods. Quote
Fish Murderer 71 Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 I have an All-Star big crank - 7'10" with a 5.4:1 speed spool. works like a dream... Quote
speed craw Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Lews are the bomb ... even their lower end reals are smooth ... soon you will start to wonder what the higher ends reels are like . Before you know it you will have several. 1 Quote
TorqueConverter Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 I'm hearing a lot of good things about the Lews reels. Who's their OEM? Quote
rangerjockey Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 I could be wrong, but I believe it's Doyo. Quote
Mattfrom_NJ Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Not to high jack this thread but any else have trouble adjusting the spool tension on the speed spool? Mine either free falls or doesn't fall. I can't get a controlled fall Quote
dam0007 Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 what model you get? the standard speed spool? Quote

dam0007 Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Yes, the standard Cool, report back how you like it. I almost pulled the trigger on a BB1. Ended up sticking with what I already had. Seem to be some good work horses. Quote
stk Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 I've got a speed spool on my cranking rod and another tournament speed spool for general use. Very good value for the money. Quote
SamTheHam Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 I got my lews two weeks ago and what a world of difference. The smooth cast was worth the money. Quote

bassmaster8100 Posted June 18, 2014 Author Posted June 18, 2014 Ok I got my rod in today and man I love this setup! This may be my first Lew's reel but certainly not my last. Such a smooth operating reel. I've got it paired with a Denali Rosewood 7'11 Cranking rod MH mod. Amazing combo! Quote
jtharris3 Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Can't beat the Lew's Speed Spool. All of my baitcasters are Speed Spools or Shimano Citicas. Quote
