Dillo Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 I bought a mepps aglia size 3 spinner. The website says this is great for bass. I haven't had a bite on it yet, anyone have any input on techniques or if I'm just wasting my time. Quote
jigabooyah Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 Oh yeah. Not a lot but they work good. And probably under utilized. Size 3 is pretty good. They work well at sunset in the summer. I use a very fast retrieve and keep them as high as I can in the water column. Quote
Mccallister25 Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 Not in years. When I was young, I used to catch smaller bass all the time on rooster tails. As a 13 year old kid, it was my go to lure Quote
Kevin22 Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 I don't use them very much. A few years ago I accidentally stumbled on an inline bite. We had bass fished an area for 2 days without any good numbers, then we went back the next day with #5 aglias to target pike and started catching bass. We fished for 2 more days with the #5's catching bass one after another. They wouldn't touch a spinnerbait. Same thing happened 2 years ago with johnson silver minnows. Quote
Super User Scott F Posted June 16, 2014 Super User Posted June 16, 2014 These things are tough to master. LOL! Throw it out, and crank it back. If there are weeds below the surface, slow down the retrieve until the bait comes back just over the tops. That #3 will catch just about anything that swims. I like the #4 to cut down (only slightly) on the number of smaller fish that will hit it. They may not be the best choice if the fish are holding deep, but I use them A LOT in shallow rivers. Quote
Super User Raul Posted June 16, 2014 Super User Posted June 16, 2014 My man, if you are going to purchase in line spinners for bass purchase real man size baits, a No. 3 is panfish size in my neck of the woods, we use size 5 down here. Quote
grumpydog Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 I inherited my Dads tackle box a couple years ago. It sat on the mantle at the lake, unopened, for a year. On the anniversary of his passing, my wife and I took it down and went through the contents. We had a blast, me telling stories about the different lures, and her picking the ones she wanted to put in her bag. She took three Mepps, dont know what size. The first time she tied one on she caught an 8 lb 4 oz blue cat. Then 2 good bass, before hanging up and losing the lure. She wont use the other two. Quote
georgeyew Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 I have been catching most of my fish on inline spinners this year including the Mepps #3. Quote
Skog Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 I used to use only spinners in my younger days. My fishing buddy still fishes spinners almost exclusivly. Last time out I was throwing a #4 vibrax orange&black for pike and picked up a personal best 5 lb 9 oz LMB. Quote
