Kevinator1 Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 Hey guys, I've taken apart and completely cleaned everything with this reel, bearings, gears etc....but when reeling i keep getting a clicking noise. It gets worse the more you tighten the spool tension cap or have a load on the spool. It doesn't make much noise if any when in free spool....any ideas? Thanks. Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted June 16, 2014 Super User Posted June 16, 2014 The only thing that comes to immediate mind is the anti-reverse pawl, you might try removing it as it is a redundant backup to the ARB and often causes a little clicking noise in Shimano reels that are equipped with this part. Delaware Valley Tackle Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 The part that concerns me is the relation to spool tension and in free spool the AR is completely out of the equation. Lock all the brakes down and see what happens and make sure the spool tension is loose before tightening the side plate. Beyond that I'd have to see it to diagnose with any accuracy. Quote

I thought the same thing, can't quite figure the spool tension making it happen. But he does say that it does not happen when in free spool and that is what made me think of things outside of spool related. Quote
Kevinator1 Posted June 18, 2014 Author Posted June 18, 2014 Finally figured it out.....just for anyone's curiosity, it was the main gear.....I happen to have a spare one, so it was the last thing i tried and it fixed the clicking sound...must have had a bad tooth on the other main gear. Thanks for input guys. Quote
