So I got a Chronarch for Father's Day from my not-yet-2-year old son today ha ha. It's a d**n nice reel. This is my first shimano baitcaster. My others are all Abus. I must say, there is a certain refinement and smoothness to it that is not present in any abu I own. I haven't fished it, but cast it around the yard. I haven't decided if I like it more than my MGX or not as they feel like two different reels. My MGX has a connected geary, yet smooth feeling to it, like a proper sports car. The chronarch has a not quite numb smoothness to it. Like maybe a Cadillac.

Can't wait to get it on the water.

I got one for my ten year anniversary from my wife. Honestly the best reel I own by far. I would not have bought this reel for myself because I couldn't justify spending that much. Super light and very smooth. I use it for jigs and worms on a shimano crucial 7'2" mh xf. Did you get the 7.1?

I did get the 7.1. I had to buy it myself, unfortunately. I will say this will more than likely be the only one I ever own cuz of the price tag.

You'll sell your Abus to help fund your new shimano addiction. Trust me...I know.

Ha ha. I do have a couple abus that I'm eyeing putting up for sale ;)

I had the new Revo S, SX, and STX and loved them....until I bought a Chronarch 201E6 then it was all down hill from there. I did have a few issues out of the S and SX that kept popping up with replacement reel after replacement reel, so that did kind of sway me too, but Shimano reels are crazy good.

I would be interested in hearing your comparison of the ci4+ and the MGX after you get some time on the water with it. I have a MGX as well and have been really debating on getting the new ci4+ but wanted to make sure I would be happy with it before I dropped that much cash on one. Again would really like to hear your opinion on how they both compare.

Same story with old Gen 3 winches, nothing put problems. I switched to shimano and now own everything from a Met to an Aldebaran BFS.

That is great. It is a very nice reel and it sounds like you are blessed with a wonderful family.
