Sometimes I just get so darn restless. It's starting to affect me. Any suggestions, I don't do prescription pills.

Try caffeine. It puts some people to sleep. I'm most likely not allowed to name my other suggestion. However, it is a plant. Its extremely popular in California and Colorado....

Decompress by shutting down all electronic media for at least one hour before your bedtime.  Television, phone, and that darn internet are the worst things you can possibly look at prior to going to bed.

Was at the health food store the other day and doctors and they both said "Melatonin" (prob spelled wrong) which is put out by the brain for sleep may help.  It's a natural thing if you want to check in out.  After being sick for so long I found when I got up at one in moring for who knows what reason I would drink some oolong tea and maybe a light snack.  Check out a couple websites (fishing) and after bout an hour it was back to a good nights rest.

Good Luck

P.S.  The melatonin didn't work for me but it's suppossed too.

melatonin. It is something your body naturally produces some folks have less than needed.

It is safe and non addicting.

Take Melatonin 15-30 min before bed. No caffeine after lunch time. No screen time 30 to 60 minutes before bed and keep non sleeping activities out of the bedroom.

If you don't do so now and are willing to start, exercise. Your body will NEED the sleep after you beat it up on a good work out. Its always taken me 1-2 hrs to get to sleep my entire life and this is the one thing that really works for me. YMMV tho.

Get a program for your computer called F.lux, especially if you're on your computer after dark. It's amazing. You will be shocked at how bright your screen is and how it's keeping you from sleeping.

My ol' lady's mom takes it occasionally. God knows where she buys it and why she buys it.

Pull out a fishing magazine, and read.  I fall asleep within 10-15 minutes.

Just went to a health food store about some other issues, but they recommended taking 2 Magnesium Taurate about 30 mins before bed and I also take a Melatonin about 15 mins before I shut the TV off. Sleep good for about 6 hrs. Then the bladder kicks in!

All of the mentioned products do work, but not for everyone.  I have no trouble falling asleep, the tv is the best drug I've taken, it just puts me out.  I'm only good for a few hours and then I'm up and cannot fall back asleep, I have always been this way.  I get up for some stupid reasons like making an entry to record my blood sugar, takes a second or 2 and can be done any time of the day, but it's on my mind so it has to be taken care of instantly.  Things I have to of a more serious nature are handled the same way.  My mind is very active I'm always thinking about something.  When in business a 7:00 am appointment meant I had to be there at 6:00 waiting, I'm never late for anything.

The human mind is complicated, what can be trivial to one person can be serious to another, and you may be of the ilk that doesn't sleep well.  Maybe just try and embrace your problem and turn it in to productive time.

Zzzquil works well. Exercising works well for me.
