I have an older dell PC and 4 in 1 combo dell printer that came with it.  The PC is OK, I've upgraded the memory but it still will need a replaced soon.  But not now.

But the P.O S printer is making me crazy. I'm done with it and am about to go totally Gallagher on it and

Sledge - O -Matic the thing into several pieces.

I'll need a new one - what say you ?

Thanks in advance.

Drive down here and you can have mine. The computer it was connected too met an untimely demise when we were moving. I got mad at it and put an ax through it and the monitor. The printer however is fine. You are more than welcome to it. Its only 3 years old and had one ink cartridge put through it.

Thanks New Dad, for the offer.  But as much as I'd love the road trip and the opportunity to Hang with the RNF, it would be hard to justify the cash expended on petrol for the round trip.

Last printer I bought came free with the computer purchase. HP will almost give them away to get the ink cartridge sales down the road

Last "free" printer I got was discontinued and the ink prices online were outrageous.

I've had good luck with my Epson Workforce, and the ink pricing isn't horrible. It's a printer/scanner/fax

My printers which aren't used too often seem to last me about 2 years, have tried several brands.  The printer I have now works just fine except it always losing it's wireless network connection.  Changed the ip address, gateway, fix didn't last long.  Spent 2 hours with customer service, problem fixed.............for a while, lol.  What I have to do is turn off the printer then turn it back on, that seems to reset the network ip.

You'll have a better chance of finding a slot machine that pays consistently than you will finding any kind of small printer that has either a long life or inexpensive ink.

Your best chance would be upgrading into a laser jet printer that uses toner instead of ink.  The last HP printer I bought cost me $800 seven years ago and it still runs just like the day I bought it.  Staples has a 4 in 1 combo laser jet I just looked at for less than $400.  It prints, faxes, copies, and scans.  Print speed of a respectable 35ppm and built to handle a workload of 8,000 pages per/month.  For home use, I'd bet this little machine would last you as long a three or four inkjets, and toner doesn't dry out like ink!

Good Morning and thanks to you all for your input - I'll be looking to something in the next day or two.

I worked at a small business for 4 years that had an HP Officejet Pro 7600 series.  It was the most unbelievable work horse printer I've ever seen.  I quit the job and need a printer so I bought the next generation (L7680). It ended up being a lemon :wall1: .  The paper jammed all the time and it wouldn't print properly.

Two years ago I just walked into Staples and bought a HP Photosmart 5514 for $99 and purchased their extra 1 yr warranty for $15.  It's worked fine for 2 yrs.  I later realized I voided the warranty by using non-HP ink cartridges.  Now a days I just view printers as disposable and keep them in the $100 price range (and there is a donation center near me that accepts them ie fix and re-sells them to low income families).

fyi i've been buying quality discount ink from here for 10 years over the course of 9 printers (family+friends) and I've never had an issue.  They have great prices, free shipping, it arrives in 3-4 days and they have Memorial 15% off sales etc. And Staples even gives you a $1-2 coupon per used cartridge.

****I check the replacement cartridge price before buying the printer to make sure it's in $5-7 range.

I have used HP, Lexmark and Brother printers for my office and home.  I would never buy another Lexmark to save my life.  They use ink and toner like they are going out of style and I could burn one up in less than 12 months.  The HP laser printer that I owned was nice, but the toner and drum were outrageously priced and it dies after 2 years.  I do medium use for work and at home I don't do much.  I now have two brother lasers printers at the office.  The first is an all-in-one machine that does color and the other is just a color laser printer.  Both of them are going two years strong and the toner is reasonable compared to other manufacturers.  The only problem I have with them, they don't tend to printer pictures very well, but everything else is great.  Just my 2 cents.

The Workforce has served me well for the past several years. Even found compatible ink cartridges for it that were really cheap.

I refill the ink myself, use a hypo and bulk ink, costs next to nothing for refills..cartridges for my printer run at $20 minimum, I refill for appx $2.
