Need some opinions on how to spend some money.  Found a Caenan on sale for $70.  Unsure of which rod I would pair with it, but was thinking of a Sellus($60).  On the other hand, I really like the Citica($130) and maybe pairing it with a Cabelas Tourney Trail($40).  However, the frugal part of my brain is saying Caenan/Tourney Trail and spend the difference on other gear.  Anyone want to chime in with their thoughts?

You'll regret "saving" those 60 bucks, the Citica is a much much better reel.

You can find some good condition citica e series reels for sale on the auction site and various forums for under $80. That would be the route I would go between those two shimano casting reels.

Caenan is a composite framed reel, the Citica is a aluminum framed reel, I would go with  the  Citica  just based on this fact.  130 sounds a little high for a Citica, shop around and you will find a better deal.

I was afraid of this.... now I gotta spend more than i originally intended.  I knew everyone would say Citica.  I checked the prices today at BPS(about 20min away from me) and Cabelas(about 2 min away) and both were the same.  I suppose I could check online for a better deal, but when you have your sights set it is kind of hard to hold off.  I knew the aluminum frame would be the kicker,  but I'm just not sure I'll get the chance to even try to use it to it's potential as I'm not going to be able to get out of the house too often.  This is only reason I'm questioning an aluminum frame reel vs. non alum.

I agree with what others have said, go with the Citica. I also hated the stupid round handles on the Caenan. Obviously you can replace them but that's more money you have to spend and less you've saved.

If you only live one year and only go fishing five times, that would be five times that you would be thankful that you upgraded to the Citica. Spread the extra cost that way and it is a bargain

Unfortunately the Citica is head and shoulders above the Caenan, but maybe a Bas Pro Shops Pro Qualifier could help you out, that is also a much better reel than the Caenan.

This. The Citica E is a much better reel than the G. You could also look for a Curado E or G in your price range.

Well if I'm gonna spend $130, I might as well get the Curado G@Dicks which is on sale for $130. Yays or nays on this?

Right turn Clyde,   set your budget and stick to it, find the best reel within your budget.  Or  do what I always do and say to heck with the budget this is what I really want.

Check Dick's sporting goods.  I got a new Citica G for $70 during a close out.

No Question, the Citica is far better.  However, if you want to save a few bucks..you can buy a used one for around 70-100.  The other option would be to get a Bass Pro Shops Pro Qualifier for 100 bucks, but I believe it is on sale at the moment for 89.99.

I would still get the Citica 200E.

I have never purchased a reel thinking about squeezing the max "potential " out of it, I purchase the reel because I like to fish with the best my hard earned cash can get me even if it takes me months between one outing and another, the max potential is right here right now.
