crazyjoeclemens Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 Obviously, if you're having a good day and the fish tear up your bait, you're gonna have to put a new one on every now and then. However, if you throw out a soft plastic and its not getting any love, do you toss it back in the tackle box and save it for next weekend or tear it off and start fresh on your next outing? Quote
WVbassin87 Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 I'm broke as a joke. if i put a plastic on, and it ain't getting bitten, it goes straight back to the box, usually hook and all so i don't add any unnecessary wear and tear, plus i can just re-tie that rig again when i feel it might work. i'm learning a lot about plastics this year, and sometimes the same presentation in a different color can make the difference between a full stringer and getting skunked. Global Moderator Mike L Posted June 15, 2014 Global Moderator Posted June 15, 2014 If its not torn up to the point that it will effect its original action, and am able to get a hook in it, I'll save it and try again another day. Mike Quote
TNBassin' Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 I have a separate zip lock bag for baits that I take off. Its my used bait bag. As long as they aren't torn up I save them for another time. Quote

Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted June 15, 2014 Super User Posted June 15, 2014 With Senkos, Ikas, Palm Trees, Damiki Hydras, Keitech salty core tubes I save them and fix the tears in them to use again and again. Ill save sections and mix/match parts of one to another as they remain useful. Quote

Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted June 15, 2014 Super User Posted June 15, 2014 how do you fix tears in soft plastics?? Do you use a glue of some sorts? Can use product called MEND-IT but I use heat to melt them together. I have small butane soldering tool with plastic attachment once I get a bags worth of torn lures Ill touch-up the tears. It doesnt melt much of the lure with quick touch just gets it gooey enough then squeeze together and done fixed very good bond. Doing this has paid for the tool many times over but any iron would do. The bottom pic is a Damiki Hydra body with a Palm Tree skirt put together once the counter sections got too torn up to be of any use. Quote
Super User Raul Posted June 15, 2014 Super User Posted June 15, 2014 Dude, you rigged the Ika wrong, doesn't mean it don't work, but, they were not meant to be rigged like a tube. Quote

Super User tcbass Posted June 15, 2014 Super User Posted June 15, 2014 I put them back in the original packaging and I keep all open packages in a big Berkley Powerbait sealed box. I'll use them as long as I can. I have all of my unopened baits in a different tacklebox. Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted June 15, 2014 Super User Posted June 15, 2014 Mend it glue. I'll try this glue thanks guys Quote
Super User WRB Posted June 15, 2014 Super User Posted June 15, 2014 I repair or modify soft plastics with a Pro-Weld Wormizer, see Don Iovino products for details. Sometimes you run out of a hot worm/ color and need to reuse damaged soft plastics. The more expensive hand pours tear easier and repairing with glue is messy, smells and takes time to dry. Tom Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted June 16, 2014 Super User Posted June 16, 2014 I use 'em as long as I can, then toss 'em on the floor and grab a new one. Once used they are never reused. Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted June 16, 2014 Super User Posted June 16, 2014 I use them as long as I can get them to stay on a hook keeper. whether they are new or fixed /w mendit or heat, if they can't stay on the keeper they get tossed. Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted June 16, 2014 Super User Posted June 16, 2014 I never re-use plastics. I use them as long as I can but when I take one off a hook, it's done. Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 16, 2014 Global Moderator Posted June 16, 2014 I never re-use plastics. I use them as long as I can but when I take one off a hook, it's done. I tend to be the same way but I'm trying mend it glue and have been pretty impressed with it so far. I'm only doing it with baits that are still in pretty good shape when I'm done with them though. Normally I just get mad at myself when I take a used bait out of a bag that I thought was new though. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted June 16, 2014 Super User Posted June 16, 2014 I set them aside once they are torn, use mend it on them, put them back in the package, and spray a shot on bang in the package. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted June 16, 2014 Super User Posted June 16, 2014 If they don't get bit I usually use mend it on the holes where the hook went in and out. Quote
