I still have some 30+ year old pistol grip rods that used to be on all my bantams and diawas and I haven't used them in a loooong time. Does anyone ever like to throw these once in awhile? I'm not old enough to have used them when they were brand new but my folks told me back in the day all anyone used was one handed pistol grips haha...

I still see old timers use a 5'6" style pistol grip baitcaster to work jerkbaits , top water and walk-the-dog baits ...you can keep a bait in a small area while working it with this set up ...Not a retrieve so much as inducing a seizure to the lure !!

I use them every week for walking the dog and throwing super flukes under canopies and docks.

Never thought of using them for scenarios like this...

What goes around, comes around. What was old could very well be the "new", sooner than you think! :)

Forgot, I also like them to accurately cast square bill and waking crankbaits around stumps, pilings and other emergent wood.  In place of where many would throw a spinnerbait.  The first pistol grip rod I got was a Team Daiwa Larry Nixon signature spinnerbait rod.  I miss that rod, they had such comfortable reel seats.

I throw square bills more than any other lure so I'll try tossing then in tight quarters with a pistol grip and see if I like it!

Yeah,on every trip! Been fishing these rods for over 35 years, and they still catch fish! These Are the Phenix Excaliber Series and TR1 Series rods. Boron an graphite composite, these were some of the 1st technique specific rods with applications for worms, jigs, gitzits, crankbats, and splitshotting. The bottom set up is for worm fishing, and I usually have 4 of them when I go.

I have a couple customs w/pistol grips, 1-5'6" M/F Avid and 1-6' MH/F Premier with a fightin' butt.  I use the 6' a LOT, one of my favorites.  They are both spiral wrapped with Alconite guides, made by David Green.

I sure do still use one. Got a great one from BPS year end out the door sale years ago. It's a great

spinnerbait tool and, ahem, put your favorite spincast reel on it to skip under tree limbs and boat

docks.. One of my biggest was using it. Good Fishing.

I have a 5 1/2' custom rod (by me) with a Lew's Fuji Speed Grip handle (pistol grip) sitting in the corner. It has a Shimano Bantam 100 reel on it. It was great for close quarters fishing. I liked it for pitching spinnerbaits and t-rigged worms far under docks. I noticed when I use it now that I have to turn the handle a lot faster to get the same lure speed. I think that the Bantam was a "high speed" reel at the time with a 3 1/2 to 1 gear ratio. I've used it a few times in the backwaters during the winter to catch snook on Zara Spooks.

The rod is made of 1st generation graphite so it has a parabolic action somewhat like glass. I remember buying the rod blanks through the mail from a company in Texas. The rod blanks had a butt adapter that fir the Speed Grip handle.

I still have one from late 80's and use it once in a while. Look at the pic. This one's (shimano rod) reel seat is embedded in the rod blank. I think it is kinda futuristic looking rod. I like how it looks with modern low profile reels.
