JickleFish Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 Hey guys, I recently picked up a Fenwick Smallmouth Elite TECH casting rod, and now need a reel to pair it up with, preferably in the ~150$ range. I've been looking at the Lew's Tournament MG, BPS JM Sg Series, and the Pflueger Supreme XT. Any feedback would be awesome Thanks Quote
TNBassin' Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 Can't go wrong with Lew's. For a little more though, you could get the new Curado I. Everyone is flipping their lids over them here so I ordered 2. Apparently they are the second coming at $179. 1 Quote

Suspendingjerk Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 Lews all the way. I have the mg and it's the best thing since sliced bread in my book. 1 Quote

The Commodore Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 I have a tournament pro and love how compact it is. Haven't had an issue with it. Quote
JickleFish Posted June 14, 2014 Author Posted June 14, 2014 Found a Tournament Pro at USA Boat Store for 150, is this a reliable site. I don't want to use Ebay, and this was cheap. http://www.usaboatstore.com/store/shopCart.aspx Quote
L a r r y Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 You can also pick up a Revo STX Gen III for $150 Quote

I've gotten several STX and Lews on Ebay at a significant discount with no problems...? Quote
HeavyFisher Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 I think some people get turned off from ebay because they don't know about ebays wicked return policy. Lets say you get a dud and you want to return it but the seller refuses, no problemo you open up a case ebay sides with the buyer99% of the time and your good to go! I use ebay a lot to buy and sell on a regular basis. 1 Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted June 14, 2014 Super User Posted June 14, 2014 Not sure about 2014 models - but up through 2013 I believe Shimano quality versus price took quite a dive thus Lews picked up quite a bit of market share (deservedly so) ! I have not checked out the 2014 Curado - but my guess is Shimano knows they cut corners on quality in 2013 and people answered with their wallets (Lews) , so if the new 2014 Curado is of better quality - then more power to them ...In the mean time I strongly recommend Lews without reservation ! Super User F14A-B Posted June 14, 2014 Super User Posted June 14, 2014 The shimano reel in question in baitcasting was the curado g model....no other shimano b.c. Reels have been so accused of poor Quailty up to the G model.... Many folks liked the g many more did not. The Curado I is a new platform, completely,it's more Akin to A 279$ reel than a 179$ dollar reel. It's proving itself easily right now.. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone... I think it's a great buy. Some folks like lews... You choose and hope you enjoy it! Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted June 15, 2014 Super User Posted June 15, 2014 Another vote for a Lews ttpro. The MG tournament is great also. The ttpro has slightly more advantages though. There are several legitimate places to find the ttpro for $150. My first stop would be Ron over at Valley sports. Whatever Lews you decide on, enjoy and good luck. Quote
Phoenix Guy Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 Lews all the way. Best bang for the buck by far. Quote
