grumpydog Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 Just had surgery so I cant go fishing, or do much of anything else, for 4-6 weeks. What makes it worse is that I just got a shipment of lures, 2 new rods, and my favorite reel back from the shop. The squirrels are educated and run when I walk out with a rod in hand, the dogs hide, and my wife has stopped talking to me Whats your excuse. What are some good reasons why you were absolutly unable to get on the water. Other than posting to every topic on every forum, how did you cope? . Quote

Super User Scott F Posted June 13, 2014 Super User Posted June 13, 2014 I fish rivers in the summer. Great places to catch good numbers of smallies all summer long except after a good rain. We had a good rain this past week and my local rivers are all high, fast and muddy, the worst times for catching smallies. Too fast to safely wade or even float. Tough times. And, the weather service is predicting up to 7 more inches of rain in the next 2 weeks. It will be quite a while before prime conditions are back. In the meantime, I'll sleep in on weekends, and get some time to relax. Besides, I just got back from 2 weeks of non-stop fishing, I can wait to get back out. Quote
Mccallister25 Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 I hate it for you. I really do. A lot of Bass Resource, and a lot of WFN. I dont see how your gonna remain sane!! 1 Quote
mcgreggor57 Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 I play a lot of golf which takes up a good chunk of my free time. When I do get out to fish, it's usually mid afternoon for a couple of hours to some of the ponds in the neighborhood. When I've got the time and can't get out, I practice pitching and flipping with my new BC set up or re-organizing my tackle or adding more to my wish list and of course spending on-line time here and other places. WVbassin87 Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 My work schedule is killing me. I got promoted, but now I never have time to fish. My next trip (if I get to make it) will be just over a month since my last outing, which is the longest I've gone since my first time out this year. So far my nerves are shot, I've spent 10x more than I usually do on gear, bought more lures in one month than I had in probably 10 years put together, played Bass Pro Shops The Strike relentlessly, watched hours upon hours of fishing videos (thank you Glenn, you're the man!), and probably driven all you poor folks crazy with questions. Super User Oregon Native Posted June 14, 2014 Super User Posted June 14, 2014 Had acute pancreatitus....didn't even look at boat for over three months due to pain. It hit me at two in morning the day of tourney!! Line on reels had turned white from mold as I had shut rod lockers and never even went out to garage to even look at boat as my life was from the couch to the bed and back. Now appreciate time on water even more and thank good Lord for all his beauty. Today it's off to Watt's bar with my son for hopefully some rippin. Good luck 1 Quote

My excuse has been an elderly old woman who gave birth to me and can't live on her own anymore. For the last several years I've been lucky to make it out maybe one day per/month. Now who told you this fib that you had to cope with it? Quote

gripnrip Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 I feel for you. I don't get to do as much as I'd like too. I missed an entire bow season when I had a rotator cuff repaired. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 15, 2014 Global Moderator Posted June 15, 2014 When my son was born 6 months ago, that put a pretty serious damper on the fishing for awhile, but was very worth it Quote
Super User Sam Posted June 15, 2014 Super User Posted June 15, 2014 Had knee replaced this past October and was in the house for six weeks. I finally hobbled upstairs to my man cave and reorganized my tackle. Watched some fishing DVDs and read my fishing magazines. Just take your time and do the rehab under doctor's orders. Have a fast recovery. Quote

flyingmonkie Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 I had my first child 14 months ago, and my second will be here in November. I spend my days earning a paycheck, and my evenings playing Daddy. It's a beautiful life... but I don't fish near as much as I wish. It can be VERY VERY frustrating at times. I daydream, and do A LOT of research (thanks BR brethren!). Also, I've found that if I can sneak in a short trip, even just 15 or 20 minutes, it can hold me over for days. I took a spinnerbait to the pond in my neighborhood during lunch today, actually. Other suggestions: - Practice your flipping/pitching (if able) - Deep clean your reals - Organize tackle - Play a fishing video game... if you can find a decent one. :/ - And then there's always Breaking Bad! If you haven't seen it yet, that'll keep you busy for at least a month! Quote
