Got back from our local BPS to check out the new Curado I for myself, along with some Academy price matched 6XDs lol, and talking to the guy at the reel counter he informed me that they've had a few come back due to the finish chipping off. Now I took this with a grain of salt, because not everyone takes care of their stuff like they should, but it dissuaded me from getting one until I've done a little further research. I keep rod gloves and reel covers on my gear, so any flaws in the finish that aren't caused by me doing something stupid irks me. Has ANYONE had any issues with the paint on these since you've had them?

Not on my 2.  And 1 has traveled to Florida and both to Erie.  So not just sitting on rods.  No problem with the finish on mine.

Like you, I keep reel covers on my reels. I have been using my reels a lot the past few months, and no scuffs ,scratches or nicks on the finish. I have bumped them a few times, and thought I scratched or nicked them, but no. Still perfect. I wouldn't give it a second thought. Get one and enjoy.

I've noticed my local bps sales people don't like shimano, had a girl go out of her way trying to talk me into a tatula instead of a curado i

Even if the paint chipped I could care less if the reel performed like it should.

Did you try Ron over at Valley Sports first?

The 5:5:1 is righty only. I reel southpaw.

Right after reading this I dropped my brand spanking new tatula on the ground and scratched it. Ugh... I guess it didn't break so that something...

How are the thumb bars on these compares to the E? On my chronarchs the thumb bars have stayed solid with no slop in them. Hated how mushy the Revos thumb bars were out of the box and how bad they became over time.

The thumbars have a nice solid feel with a positive click, more real estate as well. They are placed a tad higher so that your thumb is in a better position on the spool IMO. This is another area where I think the Curado is better than the Tatula. My Tat R thumbar got a little mushy after about a week.

Yeah the solid click is what I've experienced with the Chronarchs. It just feels well made to me.

That's funny I've noticed the same thing at my local BPS but it's towards shimano.  Just try to buy another brand and you get their "professional" opinion and dozens of stories of returned non shimano garbage.

I've heard a few reports of paint chipping on the Curado as well. Mostly it has been around the edge of the sideplate, where it swings open. My opinion is that people are pushing the spring in when trying to close the sideplate and knocking it against the reel; then they complain that the sideplate doesn't fit properly. No reel finish is bulletproof, especially if it's mistreated.

Yeah that's what I've heard too. The BPS demo reel actually has this issue, but I think it's where people have tried to rotate the side plate the wrong way and scuffed that little edge. Just gotta do it the right way and you shouldn't have this issue.
