Batman1635474 Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 I think I am sold on the new Stratos 186 VLO it has just about everything I am looking for. It's a 19' boat which will handle well on the bigger waters and rivers I will be fishing, Mercury 115ELPT Optimax engine (was wondering what the diff. was b.t this one and the Pro XS model and if it's worth the extra $500), fiberglass, looks great and best of all with the trailer and all the accessories I need to start out will only be $22,195. I think I have found my boat but would like to hear any feedback on either the model and or company. Heres a link to the page http://www.stratosboats.com/model.cfm?name=186VLO Quote
Amarley Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Stratos makes great boats. I'm just a little surprised that boat is only rated for up to a 115hp outboard. I have a 17'6 boat that had a 115 and is rated for up to a 125 hp. Make sure you test drive before buying. If I was going to spend that kind of cash, I might want one that's rated for a bigger outboard, like 150hp, so I could have the option to upgrade in the future. But I like that size boat because they're easy to tow, easy to trailer on and off and not too bad on fuel and oil. Quote
Batman1635474 Posted June 25, 2014 Author Posted June 25, 2014 I was advised to stay away from this boat even though I loved everything about it i was questioning the 115 hp....most everyone is saying that is way underpowered and I would not be happy with it. Looking at a Nitro Z7 in my area found a 2011 for 20k with some accessories so hopefully that goes through. Quote
KevO Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Sounds under powered to me. I know I've seen them with a 150 on it. That would be a better choice for me anyway. Quote
Big Fish Rice Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 The 186 VLO is rated for 115hp. Top speed around 48mph.The 189 VLO is rated for 150hp. Wider beam, larger gas tank, top speed around 63mph.If you're a recreational angler, the 186 is an entry level package that will get you fishing. If you plan on tournaments, or plan on selling the boat down the road, the 189 with a 150 will be much more valuable in the used market. Quote
