What To Do About A Broken St. Croix Rod?

After reading Roadwarriors good, bad, ugly thread it got me thinking about my broken St. Croix Rage spinning rod. I broke it off 4" below the tip putting it in my boat locker.

Is there anything I can do with warranty or something to get replaced?

I see that Roadwarrior had to pay some money for a replacement and that's not a problem if I have to do that.

If it is broken by your own fault like you stated then you can use their gold star plan and pay $75 plus shipping to them and they will replace it for you.

Did you fill out your warranty for the rod? If so, send it back and they'll replace it. If you neglected to after 30 days of purchase you will probably not get it covered.  The Rage line hasn't been out for 5 years yet, so every rod purchased in that line that was registered by the buyer should be covered. 

 

As stated you can look into upgrading too. The Avid spinning rod is still favored by me.

I stand corrected.  I figured that since the blank was the same as the avid series that they would have the same cost for replacement.

I guess because of the cheap guides and cheap labor, they can afford the $25 or something.

Actually the guides are about the same cost but it probably does have more to do with their cost on the rod itself.  I actually like the guides on my rage rods and have had no issues.

Yep my 7'11" Heavy is a d**n fine rod! Like the minimas.

A set of Minima guides are about 1/3 to 1/4 the cost of a set of Alconites, on average.

You think place of manufacture and MSRP might have something to do with the lower replacement cost?

I managed to break two of my fathers St. Croix rods that he had for 10+ years in a single outing.... They were replaced using the gold service.

 

 

Now the story... Everyone here in South Dakota fishes for walleye.  I don't fish for walleye because it bores me.  We were fishing and picking up a few here and there, but it was pretty slow.  My father was using two rods and I was just using one because I like to actually feel them bite.  Well, he convince me to use one of his rods and get another jig down.  I set the rod down and wait... Oooooh a bite... go to grab it quickly and snap.  The rod caught in the cleat of the boat and I pulled it up and snapped it.   Felt terrible, but figured it was the cost of having a child.  Until, I did it again the same exact way, same exact spot.  Now I felt terrible and stupid.  Ended up paying to get them both replaced and now he has two new rods that he will hopefully have for the next 10 years.  I won't touch them.

It probably does but there are some avid series rods that are cheaper than the rage rods so who knows.....i am guessing it is more the margin on the rage is better.

Interstingly enough, I actually just read the fine print on my St Croix tag a couple days ago after realizing I never submitted the warranty (triumph series, probably never worth returning anyways after shipping).... anyways it says if you didn't fill out the warranty within the 30 days that the 5 year warranty begins on the date the rod was manufactured.  I figured you were just out of luck as well, but according to what i was reading they will cover it for 5 years from date of manufacture!
