Kevin Beachy Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Which one of these reels are better i'll be using them for frog fishing. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Daiwa-LAG100HS/19342349 http://www.walmart.com/ip/Abu-Garcia-Pro-Max-Low-Profile-Baitcast-Reel/20646674 Quote
coak Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Young man, may I suggest posting a WTB post in the flea market. I think but don't definitively know that both of those reels are not an aluminum or metal frame. I think you'd want a reel with an aluminum frame so as to reduce flexing or warping while setting hooks/fighting fish in rough stuff. Like I said maybe post in Flea Market and you may be surprised at how some members may be willing to work with a young angler such as yourself and sell you a decent reel for about the same coin as these two you are looking at. Cheers, Coak Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted June 12, 2014 Super User Posted June 12, 2014 If it were me, I'd look around for the previous model Daiwa Exceler. 100x better reel than both of those for about the same money. Quote
TNBassin' Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Both reels the op linked to have graphite frames. I'd pass on those. Quote
Mr Swim Jig Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Definitely would not want a graphite frame for frog fishing..... Quote
SenkoGuru Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Those reels will not last you very long. They will start off feeling smooth but it will break down soon and not be very smooth after that. They are made cheap so they can be sold at a hot price point in the market. They will not hold up to frog fishing. If you are low on money I would tell you to buy an Academy H2o Mettle or a BPS Pro Qualifier reel. The Mettle can be bought any where from $35.00 to $49.00 and the BPS PQ is around $85.00. They are both very solid reels and would be worth the price. Those reels will last you for a while too. I know it does not sound right but those Academy reels are very good reel's. Quote

Cheers, Coak Both reels have graphite side cover and frame. Not a good choice for frogs. I would suggest this as a much better reel in that price range. They get good reviews. http://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/h2o-xpress-mettle-mt2-baitcast-reel-right-handed/pid-903505 Or look for a used aluminium frame reel as suggested. Quote
