TeachMeHowToFish Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 I don't know much about fishing to only have one reel for specific uses (crankbaits, jigs, etc), so I would mostly like a good all around reel. I'm probably going to spool it with braid if that helps. I also plan on pairing it with a ***, or 13 ***. Still haven't figured out if the *** is worth the extra $100. Guess that will be my next topic. I already have a Bass pro Qualifier with a carbonlite pole, and although I love my Pro qualifier, I would love to have something better. I had my eye on the Quantum smoke, but I would love some suggestions Quote
JaxBasser Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Lews Speed Spool Tournament Pro or a Daiwa Tatula Type R. The Tatula Type R and Lews TP are $200 reels but can be had for less than $150 brand new. 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted June 11, 2014 Super User Posted June 11, 2014 Pick your favorite flavor. Pretty much every company makes a great reel at that price. Weigh in things such as retrieve, spool size, weight, frame material, etc. don't overlook lesser known brands. I've got an Okuma Helios and a few Pinnacles that are as nice as my Daiwas and few odd Shimanos. Pinnacle on particular has really stepped up on quality, and Okuma is entering the land of super light high end reels. Quote
BassCats Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 if you like 13 rods then I suggest the 13 ***. It is small like the curado 50. and weighs next to nothing. I love the real. Quote
BasshunterJGH Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Lews bb1 pro or tournament speed spool or abu stx 1 Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted June 11, 2014 Super User Posted June 11, 2014 I like the diawa tatula and curado I Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted June 11, 2014 Super User Posted June 11, 2014 First, I do think the *** is worth the extra money. If you wait for a July 4th sale, you can probably get a better deal on it as well. I don't think you can go wrong between the Tournament Pro, Curado 200I, Tatula, or ***. All are very good reels. I would just suggest trying to get your hands on them if you can and find the one that's most comfortable for you. Quote
TNBassin' Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 I'll go with the Chronarch E. Great reels, though you may wanna look at a Curado I as they seem to be the new hotness. I have not gotten to fondle one yet though. Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted June 12, 2014 Super User Posted June 12, 2014 Ill say that the Tatula and *** dont make a comfortable combo to me. The reel being a bit bulky and the rod having a small diameter handle just dont pair well together. It seem to want to tilt to the reel handle side more than normal in hand. Quote
livetofish28 Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Lew's tourney pro or a Lew's tourney pro lol and I would go *** and then buy another *** with the extra hundred bucks. Also you could step up a little bit but not a ton and get a couple Lew's tournament mgs and do what I suggested with the omens and you could double your outfits for the budget and could have 2 new sweet outfits Tight lines Andrew Quote
bootytrain Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Shimano Curado I. Saw it on the bay for under $160. Quote
ColdSVT Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Curado I Chronarch e Lews Tourny Pro 13 *** Revo STX All of the above are pretty sweet! Quote
SenkoGuru Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 The best reels out right now at the $200.00, which this is just a friendly IMO are. 1 Daiwa Tatula, 2 Lew's BB1 Pro, 3 Shimano Curado I Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted June 12, 2014 Super User Posted June 12, 2014 It's already been said. This is a very competitive price point. All manufacturers will have a real nice reel at this price range. Now you just have to decide which one feels the best to you and go fishing. 1 Quote
Arv Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 I like my Lews TP's, especially when I can find them around 150. But, like some others have said, its pretty hard to go wrong at that price point. If you can handle them or even mount them on the rod you plan on putting it on I would definitely do that. You can see how they balance and fit together. 1 Quote
THE_Vue's Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Daiwa T3 1016 get them before there sold out 1 Quote
Fish Murderer 71 Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 My preference is the Lews SS tournament pro, abu stx is another, I only use shimano for my open-face reels... have no experience with any of the others so my opinion is kinda biased... Quote
Rich in Co Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 All the reels mentioned are great choices I have a TP on my *** and it makes for a very light and very sweet set up Quote
