Woody B Posted May 5, 2024 Posted May 5, 2024 I fished 3 1/2 hours in the rain this morning. I managed to get 7 in the boat. I only took a picture of the first, which happened to be the largest. (18 inch skinny post spawn Largemouth) The lens on my phone was fogged up so I put it inside a dry zip lock bag to keep it from getting any wetter. The water temp was 2 degrees cooler than yesterday, (73) but I was on a different part of the lake. I've only seen one school of Bass fry. I wonder if the spawn was unsuccessful this year due to the strange weather. The water temp/weather kept going crazy. I've read that if they lay their eggs, then it cools too much they'll abandon them. I haven't seen any Bass on beds for the past 2 weeks, so I'd say the spawn is over. This years Shad spawn has been a bust for Bass, at least so far. I've only caught 1 Bass anywhere near spawning Shad. The Bass, at least the ones I'm finding are on secondary points and ledges. There's plenty of White Perch feasting on spawning Shad. The Bluegill spawn should be starting soon. They're gathering on flats and in pockets. There's a few Bass around them. I suspect more Bass will be coming soon for a Bluegill feast. 18 Quote

Super User N Florida Mike Posted May 5, 2024 Super User Posted May 5, 2024 A friend at church suprised me with a new combo today. A Wanyoo ? Anyone hear of that? Went home , made one cast with it, using a bama craw yum dinger and…got the skunk off… 21 Quote

I love fishing in the rain. I'm not ready to buy another phone, and I suspect all that water isn't good for it. I had to buy this phone when I lost my last one fishing. I caught, photographed and weighed the biggest Bass I've caught in my current boat. (7 lbs 13oz) After taking a picture of the weight on the scale I "released" my phone, and held on to the Bass and scale. I wish I had a video of that. I have some kind of "family tracker" on my phone I turn on while I'm fishing so Mrs B knows I'm OK. After throwing my phone in the water (that was 60 degrees and 15 feet deep) I high tailed it several miles down the lake to a Marina and called Mrs B to let her know I was OK. The family tracker still showed my phone where I had caught the Bass. I don't know if it was still working there under water, or the position never changed because it never moved. The signal went away after a few hours. Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted May 5, 2024 Super User Posted May 5, 2024 Woody, we have more than rain and fuzzy photos in common. I also dropped my phone into the lake within minutes of catching my PB. Quote
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted May 5, 2024 Super User Posted May 5, 2024 I have dropped my phone into the lake as well. Even went swimming for it. Couldn’t see crap. Then told myself I only dropped my phone into the lake to see how hard it was to remount my kayak. Went home. It was a great day. 2 Quote
Buzzbaiter Posted May 6, 2024 Posted May 6, 2024 Fished around Birmingham, AL today. Started at the Blackburn Fork Little Warrior River. It was slow and the fish were spooky, but I did manage an Alabama x warrior bass hybrid. He ate an SB77.7. My goals were to catch an Alabama bass and a warrior bass, which were both new species for me. Since hybrids don’t count, I still had work to do. I drove over to Turkey Creek and managed several warrior bass, all small. These guys were hard to pattern. They didn’t care too much for normal craws and worms. I finally got them to bite by sticking half of a finesse worm on a dropshot hook, and letting it drift. They came out of the riffles and smashed that worm about the same as a brook trout attacking a spinner. There were some football-sized warrior bass in there, but they were too smart for me. The big ones were more blue than green, which I found interesting. I drove further north, and took a stop at the Little River in hopes of catching an Alabama. It wasn’t meant to be. I only found green sunfish, which is amazing considering how pristine the water was. Since I didn’t manage to picture any fish from the Little River, please accept this rhododendron (I think) instead. 20 Quote
Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted May 6, 2024 Super User Posted May 6, 2024 @Buzzbaiter My dude, you got to hit me up......I would have met up with you in a heartbeat as I'm not far from the area. I've actually been thinking of getting into fishing for the endemic Alabama species like the Cahaba and Warrior. I found a youtube channel named Shoalbandit, and he offered to share some places but I can't stop fishing for LMs right now. That's very cool brother, thanks for sharing! ETA: I can 100% guarantee you an Alabama Bass on my home lake, won't be a giant, but 1-3lb fish are easy to catch. I can see the allure of catching one where they truly belong like the Cahaba River though. You can catch them very easily anywhere on the Coosa as well. 3 Quote
Buzzbaiter Posted May 6, 2024 Posted May 6, 2024 @AlabamaSpothunter I was just passing through on a road trip, so unfortunately that’ll be the last time I end up in Alabama for a while. It’s a beautiful state though, so I’ll definitely be back sometime; I have unfinished business to take care of . I’m in TN right now. My next goal is a Kentucky spot, assuming there are any genetically pure spots left. 4 Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted May 6, 2024 Super User Posted May 6, 2024 I was surprised to have this sweet girl wade out to visit me while I was throwing a swimbait off a long shallow point. Unfortunately she didn't bring me good luck. 😆 Spot on an underspin. Wacky senko Even got a LM to join the party. 24 Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted May 6, 2024 Super User Posted May 6, 2024 @Buzzbaiter's photos are professional-grade. I work with professional photographers all the time, so I know what pro-grade looks like. Beautiful bass, @NorcalBassin! 2 Quote

We have way more KY spots than Alabama spots in my area, Alabama’s have only taken a stronghold in the ocoee river and some of hiwassee river. Ocoee was nearly fishless years ago which might account for some of that 2 Quote
DaubsNU1 Posted May 6, 2024 Posted May 6, 2024 Finally got on a good bite yesterday here in Nebraska. Thunderstorms the night before...did not expect much as winds were dead calm at sunup. Got my first Musky in NE (and first in over 20 years)...on a Vision 110 jerkbait with 10lb braid, 10lb fluoro...with no steel leader. Hammered it on the pause, did the death-roll, but was hooked on the back two trebles. Brother brought my 83 year old Dad to the lake about 30 minutes later (Dad likes to sleep in). He can't cast, so we jig and minnow for Walleye and panfish...and wouldn't you know it, Dad hooked in to a nice walleye that went 22" and just over 3 lbs. That was the biggest fish of the day! Good hookset, and kept his rod tip high, worked that fish right in to the net! Most excellent! 21 Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted May 6, 2024 Super User Posted May 6, 2024 83 years old and still fishing. Impressive! Your musky has beautiful markings, @DaubsNU1. 1 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted May 6, 2024 Global Moderator Posted May 6, 2024 Did a fun float with a group of friends for cinco de mayo. Caught 5 fish, 3 little SM, a rock bass and a KY spot. 16 Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted May 6, 2024 Super User Posted May 6, 2024 Friends, canoes, whitewater, fishing. You live the good life. Here's Frankie, the singer of "The Good Life," looking at you and wishing he were you: P. S. - Going fishing this afternoon and tomorrow morning. Tomorrow morning's trip will be two, quick hours before the wind kicks up. This afternoon's trip will be the pond where I caught my PB. 5 Quote
Super User BrianMDTX Posted May 6, 2024 Super User Posted May 6, 2024 Dropped my car off for brake job so only fished the bank for a couple hours. Wasn’t sure what the pond was going to be like after four days of rain that Noah would recognize. Pond was 100% full but no debris. Not that murky either (for a pond lol). Started with a frog followed by a chatterbait. Nothing. Switched to a weightless TR with a Yum Dinger in green pumpkin. Only caught one bass. But it was my best fish of 2024 so far. A solid 4 lbs. Going out in the boat tomorrow. 18 Quote

Super User Dwight Hottle Posted May 6, 2024 Super User Posted May 6, 2024 Some extra pics that didn't make my other post. Last pic is the storm that chased us off the lake with 2-4 foot waves & building. 23 Quote
bp_fowler Posted May 6, 2024 Posted May 6, 2024 Went out today to run the circuit, Gun Club, Old Reservoir and New Reservoir since they’re all within 5 minutes of each other. New Reservoir was a skunk, but I didn’t really stay long as it was pretty crowded. Caught 15 between Gun Club and Old Reservoir. The fish were relating to submerged weeds lines adjacent to deeper water at the Gun Club. While at the Old Reservoir I fished the upper end and caught them in the gaps, ends and holes of the weed beds. The tips of the milfoil was just barely visible above the surface here. I caught 2 on a square bill at the gun club all the rest were caught with a floating worm. Best 3 An example of the average size Dink award goes to this guy The two Crankbait fish 15 Quote

Super User MIbassyaker Posted May 6, 2024 Super User Posted May 6, 2024 Got a few more in 3 hours today on "Lake 13" Eight between 14" and 18", all in less than 2ft of water on a leeward shoreline flat; nothing doing anywhere else. Keitech on a flashy swimmer and a weightless Zoom super fluke did all the work. Representative four: Water temps were 64 when I got on at 11am. Saw a few on beds -- the spawn is about to be on. This is a small lake, but that still seems early. I need to hit some of the bigger lakes in my next couple of trips as they catch up. 16 Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted May 7, 2024 Super User Posted May 7, 2024 I continue to fish the pond where I caught my PB about three weeks ago, plumbing the depths where I hooked her and fishing the same depth in other areas, but failing. It was windy yesterday so I went up a river to get out of the wind. I was struck by how brown it still it is here. It looks like November and felt like it too yesterday. I managed 11 bass, but also saw an osprey, loon, Canada geese, red-winged blackbirds, and beaver. All the bass were tight to zombie weed shorelines and all were caught on my Keitech, although I did try five other lures: a beaver tail, strolling, Whopper Plopper, jointed Rapala, and squarebill. I'm going fishing again right now to my pond, which is a quantity pond. I need a break from fishing for another PB! After working so hard to catch 11 bass, I hope I fare better in the three hours I'll have this morning. Fingers crossed! 20 Quote
keagbassr Posted May 7, 2024 Posted May 7, 2024 Got out today about 7-12 caught 11 bass 1 on a frog the rest on a buzzbait with a couple of good ones weighing 3-6 and 3-8 both on the buzzbait. 16 Quote
