Your Grandpa was clearly a very astute observed of human behavior

and possessed a most colorful vocabulary.

One that I can certainly relate to.

LOL he wasn't shy about his words sometimes.

Another one he often used was "the elevator doesn't go to the top floor" when referring to how stupid people could be.  And once I heard him say "the elevator is stuck between floors" about another person that I'm not going to name.

Honestly those are some of my favorite memories of the guy and I hunted/fished with him for years before he died of cancer in 2012.

Didn't park there again though.

It's a tire anti-roundness device ~

Otherwise known as a deflator.

Had a great day because I caught the hardest fighting Bass I've ever caught, and then some.   Caught 8 + 1 Crappie, all strolling the Jackall Drift Fry, a 7.4 that I still can't believe wasn't at least 8+ was big fish.   A magnificent fish in every regard, not a blemish on her, absolute peak health/fight in her.   A fish I feel incredibly blessed to have interacted with.   You just want to thank these fish so much for the overwhelming amount of joy they bring you.

She took line and took line and took line and all through it, you did a great job of coaching yourself and even sweet-talking her. Gosh, you're a fine angler, Alex. I watch a LOT of YouTube videos and you catch so. many. fat. bass. compared to other anglers and even professional anglers. You remind me of Kristine Fischer in your love and appreciation of these powerhouses. I agree that she looked heavier than 7-4. I watch so many fishing videos that I'm getting really good at guessing weight. Check your scale at home, okay?

I'm getting more and more excited to cast my Jackall Drift Fries!

Thanks so much Katie!   I really did think about you and the conversations we've had about your big fish being so hard to tame on spinning tackle and nearby cover.   I got lucky when she decided to run for 25ft of water instead of heavy cover to side and below her when she was hooked.  Then she just kept staying in the deepest part of that channel.  I think it the graph read 24+ fow when I landed her.   She felt like a big catfish until she leaped for glory.

Recently A-Jay told me about reeling while the fish was running, and once I knew she was away from that heavy cover I thought about what he said.

Between the support and constructive "correcting", this place and more importantly special group of folks will undoubtedly boat you more fish.

25ft of water

Whoa! I don't have 25' of water in any of the lakes/bogs I fish. Most reach 10' at their deepest, but one plunges to 17'. I was so glad that she stayed deep. With her power, if she'd gone shallow, she might have broken your heart.

Yeah when a fish makes a run for deeper water he's usually pulling me down into 3-5 feet of water 😂😂😂

On my lake they always run into the cover and it works a lot of the time for them.  Gorgeous bass Alex.  In my book 6 + is legacy class gigantors and anything over 7 is a behemoth.  That's a daggone Alpha class behemoth.  Not many fish on that lake like her.

I think I probably missed the super deep offshore bite for the year but it's okay, that gear is gonna play in August when I'm on the struggle bus.  And then hopefully I'll be ready when we bottom out for 5 whole days next winter 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😂😂😂

If you were to ever bottom out for five straight days, Pat, the only explanation is that it's the jealous gods of Olympus at work.

@ol'crickety I mean winter time surface temps!  This year we only got winter time surface temps for a week!  Not much opportunity to practice winter fishing 🥹

It was weird because the weather was mostly awful so not much being on the boat throughout the month of January but February is looking promising.  In all honesty probably best not to tempt fate by risking falling into 45° water for me or my son anyway but I would have been out more had it not been a perpetual hurricane-like Jan.

I skunk plenty though! Just how it goes sometimes especially when you only got a minute or two to fish and it might not be the easiest minute of the day.

Very thankful for the targeted moments that have produced for me though.

This weekend will be one.  SW airflow starts Wednesday night and warming trend peaks with light rain and 67° day high on Saturday with lows in the high 40s at night. New Moon.  Oh yes.

You better bet I'll be looking for Nadine.

All the more reasons to applaud your big ones, Pat.

I love how you use the word, Nadine. Makes me smile!

Thanks Pat!   You certainly always seem to make the most of your time on the water, and I predict another monster before the Spawn kicks into full gear for you.

I'd still be buzzing from that 9.3 if I'm honest 😁

Alex, it has been five minutes since I watched your video and my heart hasn't stopped racing yet! Not only were you talking to the fish, but I was talking to the fish as well. Durn! Hopefully this chest pain will ease as I try to get some work done! But really, thanks for taking me along!

I get a buzz bigger than ol’ Willie Nelson ever had just catching a hard pulling 4-5lber. I’d probably need fresh britches if I caught an 8+, especially if it was a digger like @AlabamaSpothunter’s recent fat gal appeared to be. Those diggers are my favorite, especially at night when it’s low visibility & no clue what it is or how big. Those hard head shakes & you know it’s a good ‘un. A couple of times, I hooked some dandies in the clear waters of the pits & saw them shaking their heads from a distance - was like they were tail walking under water, heads pointed towards the surface. That was special seeing it versus just feeling it.

A close second for me would be an acrobatic tail walking LMB, which is why I head north into Canada each year for SMB since most of my catches in IN aren’t breachers. It’s called addiction & I don’t ever wish to recover. 🎣🎣🎣

@Pat Brown is stalking & probably going to get a Nadine this year. Don’t wish to jinx him but I just have a feeling.

Going through the jitters now because it won’t be long before the crawdad is slid in the bed of the truck & I'm back out in the hunt. If I wasn’t dealing with a double ear infection, I’d probably already be in the water. Scouting trip for water clarity is probably going to happen tomorrow or Wednesday. Trying to contain my excitement a bit because it’s still 2 months away from typical spawning time & I'm sure the water is a bit chilly yet. Just never know when that big gal is gonna be out feeding……that sound of the fluoro when the hook is solidly set is such sweet music. 😎

The temp hit 60 for the second consecutive day so I had to go to the river during my lunch break. I only get about 30 minutes of fishing by the time I get there, but it's so nice to get out on days like today. Catching a fish makes it even better.

This is a spot that I haven't fished before, but I just might try this one again.

@Fishlegs Thanks friend!     I'd say you found a new honey hole, look forward to some more fatties coming from it 😎

@RipzLipz  Appreciate it brother!  Get to feeling better so you can post some slaunch donkies 😁

Fun day, at dawn I was freezing, and by the time I quit at 5pm, I was sunburned and it was 67.   The fish were schooling quite well as carpets of bait sunbathed in the mostly bluebird super sunny day.   Caught 36 + 2 Crappie including one that was 2.1.   All but one fish was caught on a single Drift Fry, most of these fish were in the 1-2.5lb range, caught 4 over 4lbs, but no 5lbs.

Should have chunked the KGB 7" TSG more, as I got three great bites on it and caught one of them.    Might have increased the quality and lowered the quantity but using that pixie wand on schooling fish is so much fun and doesn't work you out and risk a KGB bait on non high value targets.

"Four over four" is sweet music. As I've shared, Alex, I watch a lot of fishing videos and I RARELY see an angler catch four over four. Those four-pounders are so much fun. What a winter you've had.
