Jmurphy87 Posted October 26, 2023 Posted October 26, 2023 Got out for maybe 2 hours total over the past week, I got a pike that was sickly looking. I sort of felt bad for catching him. A real dink on a jerk bait and a smaller dink on a a mini max. 15 Quote
Aaron_H Posted October 26, 2023 Posted October 26, 2023 Threw the new chatterbait evo around for a few hours this evening along a 2 mile stretch of canal. Very strong wind out of the east wasn't too fun to contend with, but managed 8 total. 5 on the chatterbait and 3 on a senko. Nothing over 2lb, but nice to get bit on something new. Last fish of the evening had a crawdad sticking out of its gullet. 19 Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted October 26, 2023 Super User Posted October 26, 2023 I thought last week was my last trip with the weather turning cold but then it’s been great and I don’t have a buck tag to fill anymore so I took a couple hours after a doctors appointment which just happened to be 20 minutes from my favorite lake. Last week was a spinnerbait bite for 4 bass and 6 pickerel. No pickerel tonight but picked 5 bass. A pair on a spinnerbait and three on the rage bug. That rage bug might be my best lure of the year this year. Three were 14-6”. The other two were 11-12”. 18 Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted October 26, 2023 Super User Posted October 26, 2023 I always smile when Murph posts. Those are chunky fish, casts_by_fly! 3 1 Quote
thediscochef Posted October 26, 2023 Posted October 26, 2023 What a morning. Less strikes than I've been getting but the quality took a step up. Lake rose about a foot with an overnight rain event and they were up shallow. Walking bait keeps crushing it - today's fish were 4-6, 4-3, and 3-14 along with a dink and the super-est dink. Dink not pictured, super dink obligatory. The 4-3 nicked a gill, I was as fast as possible with her and standing out in the water to get a pic. The dual 4lb fish were caught on consecutive casts. There's about a 20ft by 20ft spot they just roll up and crush it. All three bigger fish struck in that small square. Walking baits are fun, y'all. Best topwater day yet by weight 24 Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted October 26, 2023 Super User Posted October 26, 2023 I have never met the disco chef and I likely never will, but I'm still as happy for him as if he were my son. Those are good looking bass! Great shapes. 1 Quote

Getting them both on that walking bait was an extra thrill. My heart is tired lol I have two left feet but I'll do my best 🤣 1 Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted October 27, 2023 Super User Posted October 27, 2023 I fished a quality pond this morning, but caught neither quality nor quantity. I did see two Trumpeter swans overhead. I also saw a Great blue heron and two beavers. My lipless crankbait, tiny child, and Whopper Plopper caught nothing. I caught six on a popper, which was weird for a sunny morning, and four on a wacky worm. All were small. It sure was pretty for a brown deep fall day. 16 Quote

Super User Swamp Girl Posted October 27, 2023 Super User Posted October 27, 2023 I know, I know, @PhishLI, I'm spoiled. What's weird was I hooked a bass on Wednesday and it was on like Kong. I hooked this morning's bass and I swore I heard them say, "Meh." 1 Quote
bp_fowler Posted October 27, 2023 Posted October 27, 2023 Well looks like it’s time to close the book on this season and start living vicariously through our brethren in warmer climes. Caught this guy yesterday but lost another one that was big enough to straighten out the the treble hook on my jerkbait. Today was more of the same had two come off my paddle tail, one was a dink the other was not. It’s been a heck of a ride and I’m excited to apply lessons learned to next season. 15 Quote

Super User T-Billy Posted October 27, 2023 Super User Posted October 27, 2023 @ol'crickety, if you go again, you might oughta try pitching a jig or trig into that shallow brush on the sunny side of the pond. It's my #1 fall pattern. You can't fish too shallow. The 3.5# I caught the other day was in a tree limb with barely enough water to cover it's back. Sunny late morning through afternoon is prime time for this. 1 1 Quote

Super User Swamp Girl Posted October 27, 2023 Super User Posted October 27, 2023 @T-Billy: I plan to do vertical fishing next year. I've been listening to you and was especially persuaded by your explaining how I'll have more control over a vertically-hooked bass. 1 Quote
Aaron_H Posted October 28, 2023 Posted October 28, 2023 If you haven't tried out the Thunderhawk Sergeant lipless, give it a shot! This 3lb 4oz bass was the first of the evening and T boned it. 17 Quote

Super User Team9nine Posted October 28, 2023 Super User Posted October 28, 2023 Caught this guy hanging out in a brushpile with a bunch of crappie - got me thinking I might need to try tossing an underspin or similar around a few more of these crappie holes to see what else might bite. Also got a handful of smaller bass in some really shallow vegetation of some sort, so hoping to expand on that pattern next trip out, too. 23 Quote

Lake Ray Roberts has continued to rise. I blanked at my usual walking bait spot but the weather and water is different than it's been. I decided to take my shoes off and go wading since only the top 6" of water is warm. They were around and snackin, but no swipes, nothing today. A strong front rolled through earlier and dropped temps 20-30 degrees so I will probably wait until tomorrow afternoon to go fish again. Might be tempted to throw a 110... 1 Quote

Woody B Posted October 28, 2023 Posted October 28, 2023 We on third Summer here. It's in the 80's as I type this. I thought I was really going to catch them today. I launched my boat at 7, and caught four before 8. That was it for bass. I caught a couple White Perch (no pictured) and a fairly decent sized Blue Cat. I thought the Cat was a WHALE. It was hooked in the tail. I'd guess it to be 10 to 15 pounds. I took my pliers and shook it off next to the boat so I didn't have to deal with the slime. 2 bass were on a bladed jig, the other 2 on a shakey head. Cat and perch were on cranks. The bass weren't big but at least none were tiny. The one bleeding in the picture was hooked in the tongue with a bladed jig. I suspect it survived just fine. 17 Quote
Woody B Posted October 29, 2023 Posted October 29, 2023 I caught 6 Bass and 1 Yellow Perch today. (I'll post the perch in other species thread, it wasn't big) It took me an hour to get the skunk out of the boat. I was getting short strikes, and lost a couple Bass. The last one I lost was decent, maybe 3 lbs. I got it to the boat and was getting ready to lip it. It was barely hooked in the top of it's mouth.....just a little flap of skin. After that I cut an inch or so off my Bladed Jig trailer. I didn't lose any more. 5 Bass came on a Seibert Bladed jig, with a cut down Manns Classic Spinner. The other Bass came on a shakey head. Perch was on a crank. I'm pretty sure the 2nd Bass was a Largemouth/Spot hybrid. They aren't as common as Meanmouth bass but it does happen. It had a Largemouth mouth, same size cheek scales as the rest of it's body, but a Spot dorsal, and a flat Spot tongue with a tooth patch, instead of an oval, slick LM tongue. The last one will be my last Bass on October 2023. (unless they cancel work tomorrow or Tuesday LOL) 13 Quote
