Mike, those look like Yankee bass. They're so dark and beautiful, especially that second one.

Nice fish, even nicer photo of the sweet looking pooch who appears to be saying “hey dad look at what I see”.

One time she thought the water was dry land and just walked off the boat. She sank more than I knew a dog could sink! When she finally surfaced she was swimming after some geese hahah, had to run her down with the trolling motor

Thanks! We have a lot of dark colored fish here , due to all the cypress tannic stained waters. Actually, many are quite a bit darker than these …

They’re biting! Got 8 this evening. 6 on a watermelon red UV Speed worm, and 2 on a June bug red ol monster …The bigger fish were on laydowns by our island…

They did not want the zoom  lizard. I also tried a strike king bitsy minnow micro crankbait with no action…

Beautifully rich LGM brother, like Katie said, they look like those heathy dark beauties she pulls from the bogs and swamps

Seems that regardless of latitude, LGM get this rich dark green color in more swamp, boggy type waters.

I'm a bit of a zoom man myself, my biggest fish including my PB until this year almost exclusively came off Zoom Magnum 8" Lizards.    Caught a few nice fish on that Junebug Ol Monster too.   It's just so big for a worm, feels un-natural but it works.

It’s funny, the dark LM we have live in super clear water in the mountains. I guess they get a suntan because the water is so clear? Who knows. There are no swamps of any kind in east TN, water is  busy rolling downhill

I wish I was a fish biologist, but obviously am not so I'm always just throwing out my theories based on anecdotal evidence and data points.    The actual fish biologist I know isn't all that impressive on Bass, and in general very very few are.    One could make the argument that professional or savant level Bass anglers are the true experts of Bass biology.

I might be mildly autistic though, so my point connecting skills might be extra sharp ?

I’ve noticed fish in clearer water can be dark if they spend a lot of time under cover.

My lake is between clear and stained, but the “under cover “ fish are dark…

I think I’m technically a wildlife biologist, I graduated with many game wardens and they don’t speak highly of any of their coworker biologists haha

Hadn't been out in 4-5 weeks and was finally able to put a few hours in.  A couple pike, a few decent jerkbait bass, and this one picture worthy gal.  No scale or tape measure with me on my FIL's pontoon, but real glad I brought my net.

Nice! Yeah something would have broken boat flipping that into a pontoon. I guess you can’t exactly kneel down and lip them in there either

Yeah I've definitely lost a few chunks at the boat on their lake without a net.  Lipping is doable, but challenging, if they're pinned really well I lift the line first and hold my breath.  This one was ornery, and made a handful of runs.  The cooler water has 'em fighting.

I got out for a couple short trips Saturday and all day Sunday. Morning trip Saturday was kind of a dud. Lots of dinks, maybe 1 over 15". One looked like it had barely survived an encounter with an osprey or heron.

20221015-103846.jpg

Saturday evening I took the boys to a pond for a few hours with a tub of crawlers. Barely made a cast myself. Every time a bobber would touch down it was zipping away. Pond has some huge hybrid bluegills, but only my youngest found one of those. I did get a couple cast in right at the end and caught one of the big hybrids on a tiny Duo popper.

Sunday I took the yak to a lake I use to fish all the time but haven't due to a huge increase in fishing pressure and recreational boating. The water was way down and I had to work to get to a few of my spots but it was worth it. Caught a skinny  17 incher right off the ramp before I even launched.

20221016-071237.jpg20221016-071307.jpg

Lots of small fish followed on jigs, bladed jigs, and a spinnerbait before a good one inhaled my spinnerbait.

20221016-095619.jpg20221016-095632.jpg20221016-095725.jpg

No more big ones in that area so I headed up lake and wasn't doing much. Probably went almost an hour between bites when I ran my spinnerbait down a log and it got clobbered again.

20221016-123324.jpg20221016-123527.jpg20221016-123545.jpg

This lake normally has a good flipping bite, but I went all day without a flipping bite until the last 10 minutes. I caught a 15 incher out of a tree, and then this one out of the next tree.

20221016-143422.jpg

Saw water temps all the way down to 60 already and with lows in the low 20's in the forecast this week, that's going to drop even more by next weekend. Fall fishing is here finally.

Fished this morning from 6a - 1130a. Wind was right and cloud cover was perfect for me, not the fish. Managed two. One on the Showerblows and one on a Nikko Leech on a wobble head. Water temp 72.

Another small one out of me, but at least I caught something on Sunday. Caught on a drop shot with a 3/16 weight and a 4” flat worm

I was on the bank slaying dinks on a lipless when a nice man graciously offered me the back seat on his boat. It's the second time he's offered so I figured I'd take him up. Guy knows his fishing and has been at it a long time. It was a very cool experience. It was real windy out today so we didn't venture too far out. Lake was choppy. I caught probably 10-12 with this fat 4lb fish being the heavy on the day. Chatterbait Minimax with a yamamoto shad shape worm. I'm very thankful he invited me on his boat, we exchanged info so I assume I'll be back out with him. It's been a good day.
