In that picture I didn't catch both bass at the same time, we just threw them in the live well for pictures, and let them go after.  Turned out to a really tough day, only two bites, so we left with those two decent fish.

Hayden, in decades of fishing prior to this past summer, I caught ONE double. This summer, I caught four. Inexplicable, huh? The biggest pairing was a 19-incher and a 17-incher. I'll find and post the photos tomorrow.

My pre-work trips continue to be tough. I got some of the new Zman Micro TRDs in a recent TW order and decided to try them this morning. Of course the one time I don't bring a big swimbait there was a big fish blasting bluegills along a concrete wall. Did it 3 times in 15 minutes. Water was very low in the creek I was fishing and it had been fished out pretty badly it seems, even the sunfish were absent. Caught a handful of sunfish and little bass, they sure are pretty from that clear water though.

I always thought a "double" was when two people in the boat each had a fish on.  Or if there was three, and each person hooked up, it was a triple.

I had a wonderful morning. Trees are at peak color. I had multiple eagle sightings. I also fished a new lure, a Strike King Wake Bait and the bass LOVED it. I caught 48 fish. Six were pickerel and 42 were bass. I didn't catch any of my coveted 19-21 inch fish, but the ones I caught were thick fish, a number jumped, and it was so much fun to use a new lure. If I reeled it too fast, the wake bait went deeper and that's when the pickerel hit. So, it was slow reeling that triggered the bass.

 

I did catch one fish on a Whopper Plopper before switching and when I switched back, the Whopper Plopper just didn't produce. I like the hooks on the Wake Bait: so sticky! I also like how it fouls less than a Whopper Plopper. Thanks to the bassresource poster who suggested I try it! I also photographed the Wake Bait. I think it's a shad pattern.

 

The trees, bass, and eagles were great, but I really loved fishing well. In the photos, this bog looks like a pond, but that's an illusion. The water is high, so the weeds are inches under the surface. It requires accurate casting and playing the fish well to avoid weeds and trees and for this morning, at least, I fished well.

 

Tomorrow is my last day to fish due to the water chilling and posing a danger if I were to tip. I'm fishing my two best big bass ponds tomorrow. Well, one's a bog and the other is a pond, so if I land a big one, I'll finally use my scale to weigh one of the Maine hogs.

That's ridiculously hot fishing Katie, congrats and way to go!    Wish I could see an Eagle, see lots of Hawks, Owls, and some smaller BoP species, but can't recall seeing an Eagle while fishing.  

 

We might have the big fish down here, but you just have so many healthy fish that are eager for a fight.    None of those fish are dinks, and when you add that many of them up......people would pay money for days like that, I know I would.  

 

As they say, quantity has its own beauty over quality, even though I'd say all those fish above are both quality, and plentiful.

Alex, I used to live on the Mississippi River flyway and spent more than a year in northwestern Ontario, so I've seen lots of eagles. I once saw seven eagles in one tree. However, Maine's eagles are the biggest I've ever seen, likely because they feast on Maine's thick bass. 

 

Owls are what I'd love to see. Sure, I've seen some, but not often. I hear them way more than I see them.

 

I think of myself as a sneaky, snaky fisher. I can get within two to three feet of bass before they see me. Maine bass don't see a lot of lures, so they're quick to strike, but they also don't hear a lot of noise, so they're quick to spook. If I were to guide someone in Maine, my best advice would be this: "Shhh."

Often see eagles down here while fishing. Once saw an eagle scoop up a 2-pound bass that I saw jumping just moments before. Definitely more unusual, though, was the eagle I spotted fighting a buzzard over roadkill along a bayouside road ?.

Come up here. There are nests on the stretches that @TnRiver46 and I fish. Eagles, osprey, all that stuff.

Even more fall fishing fun had at Parker Canyon Lake this weekend. I have been so fortunate to make the most of this fall season. In each of the past three weekends I have caught and released a 5.2, 4, and this weekend a 5 pound large mouth bass.

 

Here is this weekend's trophy large mouth bass catch with release.

 

I put the yak aground in a small cove to hold it in place from the breeze so I could relax a bit from paddling. While against the shore, I put a cast across the small cove to a near by flooded tree. The first cast using my little Zebco 33 micro using four pound mono landed near edge of the tree branches and produced a nice bluegill.

 

Feeling a bit more ambitious I decided my next cast would be a precision effort putting the small soft plastic multi-legged crappie bait on a jig deeper into the tree between a couple of branches. Hey, better lucky than good, right? Yes, it landed where I wanted which was deeper towards the center of the tree. I felt a small tap when it bait settled in the roughly 1.5 foot shallow water. Cool, another bluegill. I'm going to need to haul back on it to get it out of the branches. Yeah, right... The rod totally loaded up and the fish on the other end was upset with me. It turned and went even deeper into the tree branches and other floating stuff. I could see branches moving from it bumping into them. My little Zebco 33 micro was screaming with the drag ripping line through the extremely strong surge. Oh crap I've caught another catfish. I thought that initially as the surge was strong and unyielding. Fortunately it didn't last as long as I thought a catfish would pull. During the pause, I managed to wind in a few cranks before it changed direction and moved out of the tree. Lucky for me the line didn't snag on anything as the fish moved to the deeper water of that cove. At least there I would have more of a chance of bringing this to a successful conclusion. Even just getting to see it would be cool. It pulled and stayed deep for the longest of time. You are only able to apply slight leverage when using this ultra lite rig. So basically I am just an audience member to this show. The fish managed to stay pinned to the small barbless jig. I got my first glimpse at about three meters from the yak when it rolled and headed back towards deeper water. I saw the big broad side of the fish and realized then it was no catfish! Golly!

 

It does seem that the peak of intense fall catching fun has passed in the past couple of weeks. Fish were not as aggressive as they were in past weeks. I suspect the cooler temperatures influences this. There are still plenty of fish that are willing to play as long as you are able to make precision casts presenting baits near them. A very good time out there. A nice mix of top water, suspended, and deep presentations produced these results. All fish were caught using smaller, less than 3 inch, soft plastic baits on ultra lite rigs with four pound mono. Good fishing (catching), Cheers!

Great job, and beautiful fish!    Remember that unless you get iced in.....the best months to catch pigs are in March and Feb.     Always something to look forward to in Bass fishing.

Tons of them up here in MN. Almost a daily sighting nowadays. Never seen a Golden Eagle though.

I fished my final session this morning, starting at a bog. I caught 23 fish, but only five were bass and the rest were pickerel. One pickerel, the one I photographed by the boat and in the canoe, drove a Strike King Wake Bait through my inner thigh. I actually appreciated the fish's thoroughness because that meant I didn't have to poke the hook through my muscle and skin a second time to snip the barb. Thanks to a bassresourcer, I had my baby bolt cutters and it was easy-peasy.

 

The second spot was an open pond. I fished from a kayak this time and again, I caught 23 fish. 12 were largemouth, 9 were smallmouth, one was a chain pickerel, and one was my first Maine pike. Pike are rare here. I enjoyed watching bass chasing minnows in the shallows and saw eagles, like I did at the first spot too.

 

The wake bait was my best lure today. I also caught fish on a Mepps and a jointed Rapala. I tried my Whopper Plopper, but could only muster one meager hit. I don't know if it's the size or the noise that doesn't appeal to the fall, but I'm eager to try my wake bait next summer to see if they like that smaller, quieter lure when it's hot. 

 

Isn't that second smallmouth super skinny? It better find the feed bag before winter hits. I included the first largemouth because I get a kick out of short, chunky bass. The skinny smallmouth should take feeding lessons from the short, chunky bass.

 

Look at the eighth fish. It looks to me like a largie/smallie hybrid. What do you think?

Way to go out like a champ Katie, if you have to end the season, that's a great way to do it minus catching yourself haha ?

 

All beautiful fish, but I agree that is one of the skinniest Smallies I've seen.  They are like Spots I've found, either one giant muscle, or a giant muscle with fat on it.    Can't ever recall catching a "skinny" Spot. 

 

It's really quite the stark difference in regard to aggression when comparing LGM vs. Spotted/Smallmouths.

Last two days have been a bit slow with 5 yesterday and 8 today, but I'm excited for tomorrow as the temp drops 10 degrees overnight tom. night.      Thinking this might get some big fish ready to bite.

 

Chatterbait MiniMax 3/8th in Gizzard Shad with a 3.2" Rage Tail.   Troll it, Yo Yo it, straight retrieve, doesn't matter......fish blow it up.  

 

Best LGM was in that 3lb range, and caught another really nice 2lb+ Spot.....everything else was smaller.

These leaves combined with 75-80 degree weather.....might be what Heaven looks like given the fish are biting
