Had a pretty good session with about 25 in three hours. Six or so were about the size of these three, the rest being 12-14". That One Knocker gave me a memorable outing last Mon. with four 3-4 lbrs. and a bonus DD channel cat (one of only two I've ever caught) during a rainy one and a half hr. Disappointed I couldn't take any pics. Phone was in my car. Nice fish! I want to throw a cast right by that covered concrete drain looking area.....looks super fishy 31 minutes ago, Texas Flood said: Not what I was fishing for but that’s the river for ya. The Baron Posted September 18, 2022 Posted September 18, 2022 I visited a small lake this morning, and got an hour in before a light rain started. It was glassy calm and just felt like a great day to throw a popper at rocky spots and wood along the shore. I was not disappointed, and had 100% landing percentage for 10 fish on a Storm Arashi Cover Pop, only two dinks the rest were all 2-3#. But, then the light rain turned to heavy rain and the bite shut off. Pretty interesting to see how a bite slows rapidly and stops… from 10 good hits and 100% hookup in about 1.5 hours, to one missed strike and one swirl a foot from my bait in the next 2 hours. I tried a couple other baits, but after an hour of pretty heavy rain my cheap rain gear was leaking and there was enough water in the canoe that I was getting wet feet. So, when the skies really opened up for round two I tapped out and went home to dry. 16 Quote

Woody B Posted September 18, 2022 Posted September 18, 2022 PSA-Disclaimer- Don't put bass on your boats carpet. (read on for my excuse) I ended up catching 14 today, biggest...meh, 15 inches. Caught a double though. 2 bass on 1 bandit 200. Why are they on my carpet? I wasn't prepared. I had my glove on to lip "it" but didn't know I had 2. My net wasn't out, and I had failed to unlock the compartment it was in. (it blows open on the interstate) I grabbed the line and picked them up into the boat. Both fell off just over the gunwale. I should have just let them swim around until I got my net out or they got off. I dumped a bucket of water on the bass and carpet, then released them. I decided to snap a pic while I was picking the first one up. I don't remember catching 2 bass on 1 lure before. I've caught 1 bass and 1 bluegill on a devils horse a few times, but never 2 bass. (and never 2 anything on a single crankbait) I hooked a (longnose) gar today. It jumped 2 or 3 feet out of the water and threw my spinnerbait back at me. 10 Quote

Look at that tail on the top one, besides being a swimming muscle, that tail is ridiculously large in proportion to the rest of it's anatomy. How can you not love Spotted Bass! I just got my first A-Rig, well kinda, it's the Picasso Bait Ball finesse version. I bought it for this exact reason. These smaller spots hunt it packs, twofer is better than onefer ? 1 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted September 19, 2022 Global Moderator Posted September 19, 2022 My buddy from Memphis came into town to fish smallmouth this weekend, the fish participated pretty well. Teaser pic…… I knocked off work around 12:15 on Friday and my buddy got here around 1 . We took my shallow boat up the Holston river and caught a lot of fish but mostly small, I caught a herring right away with a nose hooked fluke. Pretty sunset Saturday morning we switched over to the French broad and caught some nice fish in a variety of artificial baits. I caught one nice fish with a Fishlab flipping frog on the st croix legend tournament bass rod and the rest was mostly with a small marabou jig. My buddy was using a paddle tail and tube. I also got an obligatory “boat ramp” photo for @gimruis Then as we made our way downstream, we started using a kick seine to catch some bait. Got lots of crawdads and only two helgrammites, they worked pretty well but ran out quickly. Then I was able to Cast net 6 or so minnows that worked well. I ended up catching one 20” fish (the one in the pic from the intro) and a 19.9999 “ fish. The 20 incher hit the marabou jig and the 19.9999” hit a minnow day 3 we only have from sunrise until noon to fish since my buddy has to drive back to Memphis. We floated the same stretch in the morning and caught some fish but nothing too big. I got down to the same area to get some minnows and caught maybe 8-10 by 11:08 am. My buddy then says time constrains don’t apply and we shall use the minnows until they are gone, sounds good to me. I got two 19” fish with those! We were a bit past our predicted departure time but I was tickled to catch (basically) 2 20” fish and 2 19” fish in the same weekend 24 1 Quote

Don't think we aren't noticing your UT swag game increasing ? Great stuff though, beautiful fish. Fun way of fishing as well. throttleplate Posted September 19, 2022 Posted September 19, 2022 Something amazing happened to my wife when we were fishing the dam on friday. I didnt post about it because I needed to take screen shots off of the video she took. Wife was fishing a square bill crank and hooked into a fish, well sorta hooked it she snagged it in the top of the tail fin, it was a large muskie. I was a few feet away and she was struggling to reel in the fish. The drag was all the way tight as she likes it, i yelled out to loosen it up, dont break off and she did that and she yelled out her arms were sore and asked me to take over. I did and she started filming. I got the fish right up to the rocky bank paralel with it and the fish was calm. She went to get the fish grabber and bent down to insert it into the mouth and it shook its tail fin, the lure flies into the air and it slowly swam away. I was amazed that the trebble hook in the tail fin lasted the duration it did. Another incredible thing is she was using the $2.00 rod i bought 2 weeks ago at an estate sale, a wallmart FLW tour 6-6 medium rod and not her usual Ugly stick GX2. Notice the pic, it loaded up but didnt break. And just one more thing, that was the first muskie of the day. I caught one and landed it later in the day. Dams are just so fun to fish. my muskie later that day 14 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 19, 2022 Global Moderator Posted September 19, 2022 Didn't fish Saturday, worked OT 10pm Friday until 6am Saturday morning and then my oldest had his first football game of the year early afternoon. Sunday I went to a small, state lake with a young man from the local Junior Bassmasters and we caught a ton of fish but I kept losing the big bites. I did finally manage to boat one better one on a jig. 22 Quote
Fishing_Rod Posted September 19, 2022 Posted September 19, 2022 Good Day All, Something fishy out there in this fall weather we are having here in SE AZ. A great time goofing off at Parker Canyon Lake. Our seasonal monsoon brought PCL up to full pool after being several meters down for some time. There is a break in the rainy weather with enough time for the fish to get comfortable with all the newly flooded shorelines. So catching was awesome! Upper double digit taunting, catching & release, of small sunfish and other fish species. Using ultra lite 5 foot on 4 pound mono with a curly tailed grub on a 1/32 oz jig. Easy and accurate casting amongst all the flooded shrubs and plants while floating the yak from one spot to another was very successful. The yak attack on the lake was great till you get hauled into the trees or branches from hooking onto a larger stronger fish. The channel cats wanted to play quite a bit too. Rather tough to get them pose for the camera. They can get rather wiggly while waiting for the timer to count down. Of course the large mouth bass were willing to play too. Most were yearlings but then there are those that are exceptionally fun, exhausting, and thrilling. A friendly bass angler was near by to watch the drama unfold as I dealt with this one hauling me and yak into a tree and me being the hot mess trying to keep tension on the barbless jig while paddling single handed to clear the mess of the tree and low branches to finally get it clear into open water so I could simply tire it out and get a look at it and get it eventually into the net. Yeah, the jig slid out right after getting it sort of into my smallish landing net. It took me a few minutes to sort it all out and recover. They provided their scale to measure it at 5.2 lbs. Good fall fun! Have an awesome time out there. Just let's be careful too! Cheers! 19 Quote

Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted September 20, 2022 Super User Posted September 20, 2022 3 hours of fishing......one single bite on a roboworm, and two lost small Crappie 30 mins of fishing right before I end the day........6 fish, 7 bites. Biggest was 4.2lb LGM, however I caught a nice little chunky spot on a Crappie setup that felt like a Tarpon in the Keys lol. Fishing is the ultimate game of patience, me and one of other gentlemen started fishing the same time, he packed up and left at 6:30 after experiencing the same lockjaw conditions. 30mins later like magic the fish decided to bite. You always here it stressed, but it's really the golden rule of Bass fishing......time on water is the only thing that matters. The last spot, the last 10 mins, the last cast can always be the best of the day, season, or even your PB. Chatterbait took 4, small Chatterbait for panfish took one, and then caught a smaller LGM on a 7" Bold bluegirl Roboworm. Thinking I might just have these fish's feeding time nailed down after this session, and the one two days ago. They just won't eat right now during the day. pics: Biggest LGM, biggest Spot, and I'm not sure what type of bird this is, but it let me get right on it unlike Herons, very cool bird. That laid down tree top is a favorite for Herons, so I guess this bird is more alpha. 15 Quote
