The past several trips I'd taken a few fish each time out but wasn't finding the numbers I expected. Maybe it was because of the cold spring or maybe I was simply overanxious. Whatever, today I got 'em. All day long.

Water temp was 63.3º at 7:15 a.m. Sunny and breezy. Started with topwater but got no takers. A soft jerkbait worked a foot or two under the surface also got no interest. Next level: the bottom.

Z-Man's Big TRD was set up as a "Tiny Child Rig," a tail weighted, ElaZtech bait (alternate name: the TWEB Rig) and it may be too effective. See, when a smallie spots this weird looking creature hopping along the bottom, it wallops it more often than not. This results in a deeply hooked fish which is often harmful.

Changed to a top go-to, a Finesse TRD on a mushroom jighead and, let me tell you, ladies and gentlemen, girls and boys, tied onto 6 lb. fluorocarbon, cast with a 7' ML rod, and connecting with a 4 lb. smallmouth is my idea of fun. This bait on either a 1/16 oz. or 3/32 oz. jighead produced another 15 bass for a total of 17 on a too-short 10 hour day on the water. The best 5 weighed approximately 18 lbs.

How many times have I read "Let the fish tell you how they want it"?

Well, I'm old and pretty set in my ways....so, a jerkbait in 76 degree water gets fished fairly fast most of the time.  Until a long cast with a slight overrun.  As I reeled it down a couple turns I noticed a loose coil, so I took the time to peel a few yards off and get everything in order.  Wasn't til I reeld up all the slack that and went to jerk it that I had any clue there was a bass just sitting down there trying to figure out what he had in his mouth.  For the next hour, far longer than normal pauses were just what the fish wanted.

The most money I've ever made while fishing! Found this dollar on the bank and caught the bass on the next cast. I'll make sure to not spend it all on one lure ?

Just haven't caught much of anything to write home about lately (not that it's stopped me before LOL). I did catch a pretty sizeable Redbreast Sunfish on a 4" jerkbait which was neat. Hooked into a couple good stripers but they got away. Hopefully I find something decent soon

Going home with more of the elusive greenbacks than you left with? That’s a nice trick.

Got out after work today from 3:30-6:30. Boated 6 bass, 1 on a toad and 5 on a buzzbait with the best a 6-7 on the buzzbait.

It's been a year since I blew my quad off my knee and a few surgeries later I am finally back in the boat and mostly pain free and having the best pre-spawn ever.

Be Truthful now, we’re you happier about the “greenback” or the “green bass”  ?

Water was boiling hot, it was reading 94.4 degrees at one point.  everyone else had pretty good success, lots of 3-4 lbers. We struggled but it was a nice evening 0-E4-E1-D29-ACAA-4-B27-AC5-D-228-C1-DD80

My physical therapist bent me in new and terrifying ways today, so I figured it might be smart to take it a bit easy. Shot up to a local carp and turtle infested dink puddle just before dark with a light line setup, and got me some dinks. They must've been fry guarders 'cause they changed directions and fought like smallmouth, then shook furiously while I was unhooking them. Both rocketed right back to where I caught them. Wanted to stay longer, but the heavens opened up on me.

Got out for 1.5 hours last night.  Thought the bite would be on fire but was proven wrong.  Caught a 1/2 dozen.  Most were dinks but then I managed to catch a chunky 3 pounder on the whopper plopper on one of my last casts.  I seem to catch them only long or chunky but not both.  Hopefully I can change that on Friday.

I caught 6 this morning. None of them were any good. The best one is pictured. They made me work for it. The only thing they would bite was a wacky rig thrown with precision. I had to hit them right on the head.

Check out those beds, and meet my friends.

My beautiful bride decided yesterday that she wanted to go fishing.  So, off we went.  I set her up with a spinning rod/reel outfitted with a Watermelon/Red Flake Yumdinger rigged wacky style.  She did well with casting and pulled in the three below.  I caught 5 but i think her three would have won our tournament on weight.

My youngest Grandson caught this tank yesterday in a 2 acre farm pond.  He texted me the picture.  I haven't talked to him.  I don't know the weight or measurements yet.  FWIW he's 16, and 6'1" so it's not a little guy holding a little fish.

Finally made it back out to Badin lake the past two days and have had some modest success. Still learning more about the area of the lake I am in and how the fish are behaving, but I've been able to catch good keeper fish on a spinnerbait past two days, even withstanding bluebird skies and just about zero wind. Broke the 4lb mark today with a 4.03 and caught a catfish that went 9.1. Think otherwise it might be a three pounder, a 2, and a tiny. I also forgot to photo an 18"er that mighta went 3lb or so that I held up for my fishing partner to see yesterday. Anyways, been having some fun :)

Oh, and yeah, I had no idea where to lay that catfish for its premier photo so it went right into my lap. Immediately regretted it since I forgot how messy catfish are, lol. Enjoy my facial expressions in these, sometimes I wonder how I manage to make such silly faces. It was so much easier when I could just mean mug it...
