Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 17, 2022 Global Moderator Posted March 17, 2022 Had a family night last night after work with mini golf and a trip to the park by a lake. Made a few cast and got one on a H2O jerk shad. 19 Quote

Super User PhishLI Posted March 17, 2022 Super User Posted March 17, 2022 We were in the 20s this past weekend, but mild temps since then have been a relief. Water temps are up to 41 degrees again. I probably should've stayed home last night with a nearly full moon beaming down on glass flat water. I barely needed a flashlight. The icing on the cake came in the form of a huge armada of geese splashing down in front of me, then they went to war with wings beating the water everywhere. Rogue males like to horn in on a mating pair, then the fight is on. They don't play. Their honking and displays are quite interesting though. I finally got a little break in a goose-free spot when some clouds came in and a slight southwest breeze added a little ripple. I got a small swim bait into a cohort of males looking to play keep away, but only got short strikes. Tied on a Livingston Bullnose crank, missed a few, but finally got a few. It should've been a total bust, so I'll take it. 22 Quote
thediscochef Posted March 18, 2022 Posted March 18, 2022 I battled some serious hay fever all day, pulled muscles in my back from all the sneezing. Tomorrow is gonna hurt. Felt good to get a 10pm jerkbait bass. Also the second time I've hooked a shad this month. I guess jerkbaits really do catch all species. I'm feeling good. Yall are catching some pretty bass!! 17 Quote
hawgenvy Posted March 18, 2022 Posted March 18, 2022 Lucky hour today beating the bank around sunset with a Gambler black 13 inch ribbon tail worm. Caught 3 prespawn females: two were each exactly 4.32 lbs, and the other was 5.54. My avian friend nailed a nice fish, too. 25 Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted March 18, 2022 Super User Posted March 18, 2022 Got out after 4:30 yesterday. Had high hopes because of the warmer weather and near full moon. I had “one of those days”. The first thing was that a fish picked up my culprit worm as I was messing with another combo. It wasnt long, but he went through 3 different little brush piles near each other before I realized it. It took me probably 10 minutes to finally get my bait back. Then , as I was a little aggravated about that , I cast without looking up and the bait got hung on an overhanging limb. I pulled and pulled, and it broke off and plopped into the water. I ended up with 5-6, but the pictured fish was the biggest. As It got dark I began to head for home from the other end of the lake. My trolling motor went slower, and slower , then was just barely pushing the boat. ( Even though the battery was fully charged, or so I thought) . ( I Dont use an outboard in my lake) In my haste to get out , I had forgotten a paddle! So I got out on the island, got a big pine limb, and used it to eventually get home. It worked about 1/3 as good as a real paddle. That being said, can’t wait to get out again! 21 Quote
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted March 18, 2022 Super User Posted March 18, 2022 I got my first NY bass of 2022 tonight and it also happens to be my NY PB. Funny how that works. I tossed around a jig a bunch for a couple hours, no dice. As it started to get a little darker towards sunset, switched to a spinnerbait and fished it ultra slow around some steep banks. Got her! 6.21lbs. I was awfully excited ?. 29 Quote

Nice NY chunk, LMS! Congrats! 6 lbers up here is where my heart really starts to get pumping. Feels like a big jump up from a 5er. How long did it take for your hands to quit shaking? 1 Quote

Johnbt Posted March 19, 2022 Posted March 19, 2022 Two of the three I caught Wednesday mid-morning. The 3rd one was maybe 14" or so. 6.24# and 21.25" Caught on a double willow chartreuse spinnerbait with a 4" chartreuse grub. 5.27 and 21" Caught on a DT-6 Demon in 8 feet or so of water. 23 Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted March 19, 2022 Super User Posted March 19, 2022 With next week's forecast we've gotta be close to busting loose. Saw some small bucks in shallow but no beds anywhere we were fishing (10ft vis). Water temp 56*. Pops with one of the small bucks he was picking off up shallow. I fished out a bit deeper and had a nice run of fish in the 17" +/- range. This fella apparently bailed after only having 1/2 of his lip injection. 21 Quote

Super User LrgmouthShad Posted March 20, 2022 Super User Posted March 20, 2022 Fun day on the water this morning! Stayed cloudy throughout the day and fairly moderate winds. There was a bite window from around 8:30-10:30. Caught 10 with 70% of them coming from one relatively small location. All of them were pretty small but a couple decent ones. Couldn't really find the big girls today. Slow rolled spinnerbaits around rock and wood in close proximity to deep water in some areas that looked promising to me. This was my first time fishing on this lake by myself. Also, I'm smiling for you @TnRiver46 ?. I really need to work on my camera work because it looks like I'm trying to smother the lens with the fish in every photo I take in the kayak ??. 24 Quote
