Well, only one and right at dark, but it beat the skunk and stopped a streak of nada the past few outings. I missed one earlier on a light bite; this time I gave it a couple seconds to commit. 4” #956 Senko on a 3/0 EWG.

First ever tube bass! 12ft+ water visibility; bluegill and tiny minnows all over the place. BPS tender tube, 3.5" green pumpkin/chart tail, 1/16oz BPS head. Hit on the fall of a long cast as I was about to start retrieving. Thanks for the advice in the tackle forum, much appreciated!

Somehow the weather gods dropped a few warm-ish days on us which was enough to break up the shore ice at my local spot. Water temp is 38, but air temp was 53, and wind was blowing 20 mph from the south at 11:30 pm. My buddy was packing for an ice fishing trip to NH and leaving first thing in the morning, but I told him I had a feeling, so he couldn't resist. January and February have been rough and frozen here, so it was nice to be able to finally slip a wade in and take a few swings.

Pickerel were on the move and biting, and a really nice one gobbled my Beast Coast Miyagi right away. I swung him up on the shore and he did the crazy shake and somehow got off the 6/0 beast hook. He was nicely battered in leaves, dirt, and snot, so I kindly tipped him back in the water. It was just too early in the sesh to get my gloves all slimed up. I missed a bunch of short strikes on swimmers, so I tied on a Baby Bull Shad. A well fed chunker just shy of 3 pounds ate it good and fought far better than I would've thought with how cold the water is. Just glad to get a decent fighter right before we plummet back into the freezer. 20s and teens on the way during the next 5 overnights. First bass of '22. I'll take it.

My first bass of the year came on the second cast to start the morning. When that happened I incorrectly figured they’re on a better bite. So because the bites were few and far in between, I did take a picture of my second bass of the day and 2022 which inhaled a bladed jig. It’s just gonna get better next time…

Got a gorgeous but windy day on the water. Weather has been warm and water finally hit 60 so I thought they would be chewing. Hooked a dink first thing so was thinking I was correct. 3 hours of nothing later, landed this healthy 3 pounder. D20F5F28-9C64-438C-985F-FC7F56BA245A.thumb.jpeg.3b0d9602b1f894657338eb3154f82e07.jpegHad a partner who caught an action shot…9F4218D4-8DF6-4877-8CFB-FB88036EB1D9.thumb.jpeg.2c65a9de89b9fe2ea4666928368e55fb.jpegone decent fish after that was all she wrote. Fished with 3 total and my buddy got two. Not a great day, but know it’s going to get better now that winter is ending. 1C47710A-5D1B-4C43-8406-796BCC25B130.thumb.jpeg.357d8a897ff4edc905a2e3c18cc887eb.jpeg

I like catching fish. Ive had 2 hits ever with a CB , both in my home lake. I’ve fished it in 2 other locations without a sniff.  I do ok with a spinnerbait occasionally, which would make me think I could catch something with a CB . But not yet…

A friend had an 8 pounder on one in my lake and lost it as he tried to lip it. Keeps me trying again occasionally…

Heck even I've thought about throwing the chatter again. I know it's just bait monkey talk. I know he's gonna make me throw it around wood. I know it's gonna get caught. And I know I'll buy more just because I caught one nice one before snagging it.

I've been fortunate that I haven't hung up any of my chatterbaits yet (I'd say 'knock on wood' but that's the opposite of what I'm trying to do with the chatterbait), only one I "lost" was due to a massive softshell turtle biting that 5/0 hook in half.

I actually haven't been throwing them much with my nose to the jerkbait grind so far this year. Hmmm....maybe I'll take it with me next trip.

Spent a couple hours trying to coax a deep bite with no takers.  Ducked into a cove to take a break from the icy wind and it was lights out.  Surface temps only 48, but don't tell the bass that.  Caught all in less than 7 FOW.  What was really crazy was a dozen smaller bass in a vast, cold muddy bay, all in less than 3 foot of water.  I wouldn't even have gone in there if I hadn't noticed some surface activity.  They apparently herded a ton of bait back there.

First fish on the swaver, saw 2 fish floating off the end of a lay down in the afternoon sun, cast past them and slowly swam in front of them and this one slammed it. One of the coolest bass eats I’ve experienced!

First fish of 2022

rsz_2img_5112.thumb.jpg.2b9cf5a59931ad6ada6d058d1c8eb9fe.jpg

Finally got to go fishing yesterday, after a cold front rolled in and brought down both the highs and the lows, on an overcast windy day. Started by fishing the creek but the only fish I saw was a carp and a bunch cormorants going crazy, splashing around and diving 20 feet in front of me, and I just wasn't feeling it. Drove another half hour south to a bigger lake, finally got bit on a drop shot, what else...
