I caught something like 8 or 9 species of fish, Maybe typing it out will help me remember. I got largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, what I believe was a meanmouth, white bass, black crappie, walleye, drum, bluegill, channel catfish, and skipjack herring. So that’s 9 species for sure, maybe 10. I also dropped a big spotted bass right at the boat and was donated a sauger by a friend I saw out on the water. here’s what I think was a meanmouth ⬇️ For some reason I never thought yall had walleye down in TN. That's cool! 1 Quote

Holetail Posted February 12, 2022 Posted February 12, 2022 Tough day on the water. 6 hours for 5 bites and 4 fish with the biggest maybe going 1.25. Was a gorgeous day at least, perfect to take the day off and go fishing! Did some scouting to see where they may move up to spawn so I will be ready. Ready for the warmer temps to stick around to get the party started. 15 Quote
hokiehunter373 Posted February 12, 2022 Posted February 12, 2022 Never fished a jerkbait growing up so I think this is my first bass on one. First bass of the year as well. Little buddy could use some help 18 Quote
Super User BrianMDTX Posted February 12, 2022 Super User Posted February 12, 2022 Congrats @hokiehunter373 I caught my first jerkbait bass last year. It’s a good feeling when you get a bite on one. 2 Quote
Logan S Posted February 12, 2022 Posted February 12, 2022 Finally able to get out and had a great day to start the 2022 season. Caught over 50 between the two of us in the boat...Most on a small swimbait but jerkbait and flatside were also players. This was the biggest of the day. It was all about baitfish, if you threw a 4" swimbait even the same model and color they wouldn't touch it...Had to be the 3". 19 Quote

Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted February 12, 2022 Global Moderator Posted February 12, 2022 I think I caught a “PB” as the kids say. (posted in the wrong thread earlier) we only had from 8-11 to fish today. Drove upstream and the river we planned on fishing was raging, overnight they ran 15k cfs and it was pretty much unfishable. So we tried plan B, river with only 4k cfs. Water temp was 45. We fished for about an hour with no luck and I broke the bill off an original floating rapala, not a great start. Finally my buddy scores on a spinnerbait, about a 17 inch fish. Cool deal, always good for me to physically see a fish caught with one of those silly things. I didn’t want to get skunked so I reached for some night crawlers I had left over from last weekends perch mission. Not long into trying that, I got a hard hit and landed an 18” smallmouth that fought hard, had to use backreel. Next cast I get a stronger fish, it comes up in sight. It’s a big thick smallmouth. Get him into the boat and it’s at least 21” and very tall from dorsal to belly. We didn’t have a scale but both guessed it getting close to 6 lbs. I’ve caught a good many fish longer but none taller, it was heavy. Got some good pics and video , it striped up after 5 minutes in the well (making sure we didn’t have a scale) here’s the 18” first one I got and my buddy’s spinnerbait fish my bait of choice good luck groundhog The catch The release 27 Quote
