Theres many more talented and accomplished fishermen on this site than me. Oh, I think you're more than a lucky hack! Consistently boating nice fish gave it away. Unless, you're fishing in the BPS tank ?***********************"*** Couple days of pond excursions, the fish are long and lean now, but bitting well. It's been cooler with less humidity the last few days, I probably start taking the boat out more. 17 Quote
JohnFromLisbon Posted September 5, 2021 Posted September 5, 2021 Went out yesterday, only managed to catch small ones. Here's the biggest one of the day. At around 10AM I had to go back to the car, the gentleman who works on the nearby property had backed into my rear door with his truck. He was super apologetic about it, I see him every time I'm at the creek, and it was an honest mistake. Here's the end result... Made two or three more casts after getting all of his insurance info, but the day was kinda ruined after this. Went back today. Things were... A lot different. Got a couple little ones on the popper to start out the day. But because I was dead set finally learning to fish a jig properly before fall and winter get here, switched to a Bass Patrol football jig with a Rage Chunk and managed to get this little guy. That jig eventually got hung up and I broke off. Switched to a Dobyns jig (the one with the EWG style hook) with a Flappin' Hog on the back of it and got bit on the first or second drag after it hit bottom. I gotta say... After avoiding these things like the plague for years, I'm REALLY loving jig fishing right now. Getting the right gear for it really helps (even if just by having to mentally justify spending more money on a dedicated jig setup), but just sticking with it until you figure out by yourself what exactly you need to do was the way to go. After that I caught another 1-1/2lb fish on the drop shot and called it a day before 10:00 AM, got home in time for lunch. 17 Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted September 6, 2021 Super User Posted September 6, 2021 Managed 8 this morning on senkos and speed worms. Lost that many that kept biting the worms in half , and fish that didnt stay hooked…. Had a nice blow up with a frog first cast but he missed. It has been a rough summer here for bass fishing. I did learn a couple things today that I plan to implement from now on. It was a relaxing few hours I needed on the water because… my best friend Arthur is fighting for his life with covid in the ICU. I am very blessed no one in my family has gotten it, but it’s been all around us this time. Our lake association treasurer is in the ICU with it too. 15 Quote

Super User N Florida Mike Posted September 6, 2021 Super User Posted September 6, 2021 Thanks, I really appreciate it. @TnRiver46 -Arthur is the best friend Ive ever had- very rare in this life… What I learned was really something I knew but kept experimenting. As you know, I primarily fish plastics. I keep trying to find a spinning rod in my price range ( which ain’t much ) that will fit my 2 best reels. The one I got the other day seemed awesome but I could NOT hook any of the fish that bit on it today. It is a 7’0 medium Diawa something with a fast tip. Felt great with the one fish I caught the other day and at the store but today I learned that its tip is just too light for plastics. Conversely, I didnt miss a fish with my 7’0 MH mod. fast tip lightning rod. Im going to trade in the diawa and get another same lightning rod and I’ll be set for fall. You’d think Id know this after all these years. I also learned my jon boat is leaking again ? Such is life - could be a lot worse.Nothing a little JB weld wont fix… And I just reminded myself to slow my fishing down, which always pays off for me. Felt real confident and comfortable on the water today even though it was a somewhat below average catch… Was needing a little more of that with the way fishing has been this year. 7 Quote

Super User LrgmouthShad Posted September 6, 2021 Super User Posted September 6, 2021 Wrapping up fishing from this weekend. Got most of my fish on a spinnerbait. One fish I was very pleased with, that is the last one pictured. Longest fish I've caught around here, did not weigh, my guess is 3.5. Had a few 2's and of course many smaller ones. 16 Quote

gunsinger Posted September 6, 2021 Posted September 6, 2021 Well, good news and bad news from my Labor Day fishing effort. The bad news? Yet again I lost what could have been a PB. Chatterbait in shallow water and the strike as massive. She came up out of the water and, for some stupid reason, I felt compelled to reset the hook. When will I learn? How many big fish must I lose before I remember not to panic and just keep tension in the line? Oh well, we will meet again someday. On the good news front, Dinkfest 2021 is over for me … at least for now. In the last two weeks, I was catching fish, but nothing that measured. Today was a different story. 9 fish total with only one dink. 8 were over a pound. Of those 8, 4 were over 2 lbs and 1 was over 3 lbs. Not long but fat as a football! 18 Quote

Jmurphy87 Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 Today was a grind. Got out at 2:30 pm wind was strong most of the day started with a spoon caught two small ones. Switched to soft plastics caught three to four more small ones. Then I decided to throw a walking bait had to grind for a while then caught this one 20 inches long 14 inches around. No weight unfortunately I still don’t have a scale don’t really catch them big enough to worry about weighing them most of the time lol. Caught it on a chrome sexy shad sexy dawg definitely a decent fish for Michigan I would say, they do definitely get bigger but finding them can be hard. I then caught some on a popper also. I enjoy getting out and catching the bigger ones, it’s been a dink fest lately. My goal for the year is to catch a 6lb bass we will see. 12 Quote

The free Bass Resource Weight Calculator, available under tools(In the menu drop down), puts the fish at 5.49! Almost there! Here is the calculator: https://www.bassresource.com/bassfishing/fishcalculator.html My best guess is probably 3.5-4.5 range maybe larger, although my rule of thumb is to always make the fish lower weight when you have to guess you know. I rather underestimate than overestimate on size rather be pleasantly surprised than disappointed lol. 2 Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted September 7, 2021 Super User Posted September 7, 2021 Sunny, but an approaching frontal boundary tonight has us with steady winds of 15+ mph gusting to over 30. That kept the boat in the garage, but was still able to sneak another ProjectZ installment in today. 16 Quote

keagbassr Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 Got out today 8-3. Long slow day. banged my head against the wall with a punch rig most of the day with only 4 bass to show. kinda paid off in the end as the last of the four weighed 5-2. 18 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 8, 2021 Global Moderator Posted September 8, 2021 Almost chilly out this morning when I got off work. Wind was blowing all the weeds into my normal bank fishing spot. I tried but they were too thick for the 2 baits I brought. Moved to a different spot and had a small one follow my swimbait, he was all over the weightless plastic I followed it up with. Couple cast later with the swimbait, I got a skinny, big headed fellow that needs to stop eating fake stuff so he can gain some weight. 13 Quote
