Scheduling conflicts and the insane weather here this winter prevented the Phish brothers from putting together a boat trip until last Sunday, but god had other plans. After suffering for hours over jig trailers and tying leaders it all blew up. I was literally walking out the door when the phone rang. My brother's co-worker had just called to let him know he'd woken with a migraine and no taste, so that was the end of that. A week later and my bruv is fine.

Hit it late last night and found a decent window for my 1st bass this year, then finally broke my never ending pickerel curse with a few more. The second guy took off fine and B-lined it down the shore, but 10 minutes later I found him laid on his side in a few inches of water. Stuck my mitts in, apologized profusely, got some nice water through his gills until he was kicking good, then he took off like a rocket. I peeled off my gloves and quickly got another. I ended with another pickerel, but I wasn't mad at this one.?

No bigs, but it was nice to finally get a little bass cologne on my thumb again.

Lots of dinks but a fun day. Using the owner jig rig with Keitechs sungill color until I ran out.

Pops broke his 5 trip scoreless streak. Amazing how a small fish can make you almost as happy as a giant when you've been getting skunked.

I daresay that everybody on this website knows exactly the joy relief your Pops was feeling in that picture. That's a good feeling.

Won a little preseason team derby this past weekend, great way to kickstart the season.  Our limit weighed 12-2 and this 3-2 was our biggest.  My partner caught a 2-11 which culled out a 1-10 with about 10 minutes left in the day, without that fish we would have lost by 1 ounce!  It was a catch-weigh-release tournament and the 2nd place team is a good friend, so we got to know exactly how that played out when we talked at weigh in :D.

Too windy to get the boat out today, with steady winds at 20+ gusting to 30 mph, but I caught several chunking cranks and jerkbaits from the bank instead. This one is the best I've caught from this little lake - on a HJ08 tossed on 6'6" ML with Curado G and 8# fluoro.

2nd trip out in the boat this year for a few hours. Got a jig fish right off the bat, though it would be the deal, but after 2 hrs had nothing but a couple pickeral to show. Picked up a spinnerbait and got a 4-10 on my 7th cast. Got 4 more before heading home.

There's one that put on the Quarintine 15.

Fished an hour this afternoon. Missed one fish on a long cast that hit a 5” Senko weightless TR and spit the hook before I could set it. But I did catch my first bass on the new XZone 4.25” Adrenaline Craws the BM talked me into over the winter. Not real big but it was a fighter!

My once a year fish-with-my-spinny-rod day happened today. I bought a couple new jerkbaits I wanted to try out- a 110+1 Jr, and a Realis Rozante 77; and the wind today was like 20 miles an hour; so it turned out well.

I really like the plus 1 Jr, much better than the standard junior 110. Seems to dive ~6 ft or so on 20# braid and 10# leader, I can work it like the plus 1, and it catches fish. Definitely a winner for me.

The Rozante caught fish too, as did an X80+1 trick darter (those were the 3 baits I had with me today).

Caught around 15 in ~3.5 hours, mostly 12-14 inchers. Quick released a slightly larger one. Also caught a nice sized bluegill. That was cool; hadn't managed to run into one of those in quite a while.

I know this isn't rhe best way to hold a bass, but there wasn't anyone else I could get to take the pic. I had a previous best of 5 lbs caught last year. I feel this is at least right at that, or my new PB. My buddy said he thought it is in the 4 lb range but I believe it was heavier than that. My one arm got quite tired trying to hold it up qnd still while I snapped photos on my phone.

I left my scale in the truck and I didn't wanna walk up to get it, as that would have had the bass out of the water longer. I could kick myself for that  d'oh. But I am 90% sure this beats my PB of 5 lbs. What do you think?

I wouldn't call it 5lbs, if you don't know for sure, you can call it 10lbs if you want to. Whatever makes you feel good.

It's a nice fish but that's an impossible picture angle to take a guess on.

Yeah not gonna lie, that does kinda take some of the excitement out of it. Just looking at it in person I thought it beat my previous PB, which woulda put it around 5 lbs. But it is a big improvement over my only other bass of the year pictured here, and I do feel confident I can call it in the high 4 range at least.

This first little dink bass of the year went after a minnow half as long as it was ?

Saturday was a slow morning, nothing but dinks. Then this girl came by to say hi in the afternoon.

Awesome. Only takes one decent one like that to make the day worth it to me. Anything else, or anything bigger especially is icing on the cake.

Quite a way to break in the NEW P5 Destroyer Windbuster! Didn’t have a scale but this one was over 3 all day! Ate a spark shad/Okashira head combo. Great looking fish! (Wish the photo quality was better but had to be under the size limit)
