Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 29, 2021 Global Moderator Posted January 29, 2021 Haven't caught many the last couple weeks, typical wintertime stuff. The other typical wintertime things are happening like big fish biting too though, and that's what I'm out there for. One was a 7.22lb fish, second(ish) fish over 7 I've caught already this year. I say secondish, because I'm 99.73% sure it was the same fish as the one I caught on 1/2/21. Both blind in their left eye, both missing a chunk out of the top of their tails, and pretty distinct lateral line markings. Top is from the 2nd, bottom is last week. Catch and release is soooo important with big fish like this. I don't care if it's the same fish, I caught it on 2 different days so I'm saying it's my second over 7 for the year ? Then I had a 5.09 on one of the new Ott's Garage Rapala's. Only fish I got to catch on it before it blew up because it got snagged... Then my "little" fish was a 4.94 out of the cold water portion of the hot water lake. First bite I've had on a Ned rig in a month. She pulled hard for low 40 degree water. 15 Quote
Super User J._Bricker Posted January 29, 2021 Super User Posted January 29, 2021 Beautiful fish @Bluebasser86 and your big girl is testament to C&R and the fishery. Just curious how much weight, if any, she gained in between photo ops and if it was in the same general area. 1 Quote
Super User BrianMDTX Posted January 29, 2021 Super User Posted January 29, 2021 @Bluebasser86, that sure looks like the same gal to me. Beautiful bass! Congrats! 1 Quote

She was on the same bank about 75-100 yards from where I caught her the first time. First time she ate a shakyhead with a Berkley Flute worm, second time it was a Strike King KVD HC 1.5 flat crankbait. 1 1 Quote
Pkfish49 Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 I first edited my profile to change my PB. First fish of the new year and a personal best! This 4.89 pound Largemouth bass is the heaviest bass I’ve ever caught! 18 Quote
Fishlegs Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 @Bluebasser86Looks like she eats pretty good for a one eyed fish. Huge! 1 Quote

Super User J._Bricker Posted February 4, 2021 Super User Posted February 4, 2021 My first and only fish to start off 2021 was this 2.8lber that ate a jerkbait. Just happy to have an opportunity to be on the water and land a cooperative fish. 16 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 5, 2021 Super User Posted February 5, 2021 I'll leave it to @roadwarrior to explain what is happening here, but it looks like he and @.ghoti. caught some toads. 18 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 5, 2021 Super User Posted February 5, 2021 ghoti took his family to Disney World for a week and invited me to join them. The ladies and grandkids wore out the parks, Gary and I fished four days. ToHo three days, Stick Marsh/ Farm 13 one day. The weather impacted us on two of the days, but we still caught fish. On our best day we landed 24 bass between us. As you might expect, our four best fish (that we actually saw) came unbuttoned. 9 Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted February 5, 2021 Super User Posted February 5, 2021 Gary's deal is "I will pay for the trip as long as I don't have to go to the park". So, that's how I get invited! 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 6, 2021 Global Moderator Posted February 6, 2021 Freezing cold outside today, but that makes them bite a lot of the time, so I had to go. Well, that didn't work out so well for the bass. I struggled for 4 little guys. Got cold and went to the discharge and tried a jigging spoon hoping for a big wiper. Broke off 3 spoons in a row and was positive I snagged another and tried to break it off. Felt like the snag was dragging towards the boat so I put the heat on it to try and lift it up and hopefully get my bait back, then it started swimming. My GoPro died real early in the fight, but it did catch me doing my best trying to break off a monster fish. 17 Quote

Super User Darth-Baiter Posted February 7, 2021 Super User Posted February 7, 2021 My first glide-bait fish. I had zero idea how to fish the bait and was having no luck. I stopped and just played with the thing next to my kayak. I learned one thing. “Slow!” I twitched the lure back with tiny rod movements and quarter reel cranks, and pauses. Boom! my first bass of 2021. 14 Quote

Awesome job and can't beat catching a 50 pounder on bass gear! Video reminded me of a recent Zona show where he's trying to break his tube off on a snag and Seth Feider tells him, "You have a fish, idiot." ? 1 3 Quote

Good to show that everyone makes mistakes sometimes. I wish I could have got the part where I was laying on the deck and handing the rod under that floating cable to myself while fighting that fish though. 2 Quote

Super User NorcalBassin Posted February 9, 2021 Super User Posted February 9, 2021 Got out for a few hours after some cold storms blew through the area. Can't remember the last time I saw the lake 50* but luckily a few fish were still willing to play. This little fella hit an underspin and spit up a brush hog... had to feel a lot better after throwing that up. Pops with one of his better ones. My best one of the day. 16 Quote

Fishlegs Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 It’s not big, but my first February bass is an improvement on my first January bass. I think December is the last month that I haven’t caught a bass. It’s also the first fish on the new rod Santa brought for Christmas. ? 13 Quote
