No interest in big swimbaits but 2.8 keitechs, Neds, and tubes all delivered. Pop's best of the day 15 Quote

Super User N Florida Mike Posted December 26, 2020 Super User Posted December 26, 2020 Fished hard for much of the day on Christmas eve. Didnt have much to show for it. I caught 4 on a green pumpkin big bite craw , and 1 on a fluke. Tried a ned rig for the first time , fished it hard without so much as a sniff. It was very windy and cloudy so I also slow rolled a spinnerbait with no result. Nothing on a trick worm either. There was a big front coming in that got here after dark. The later in the afternoon, they began to get more active . The windblown east shoreline had fish holding right against the bank. I missed a fish twice- he picked it up and dropped it right as I set the hook. A bit further down the lake I cast a foot or so from the bank and a big fish picked it up and went in closer to the bank, which they rarely do. He felt the pressure of the tight line and dropped it. When I began reeled he blew up on it and missed twice as I was reeling in. Not my best day on the water by far, but I wasnt skunked. This cold water has really slowed down the bite in general. 10 Quote

This is as close as I'll get this go around. Cold front's gonna bring temps in the teens after tomorrow. Today was 50ish and windy with rain moving in. Seemed perfect for a jerkbait. #8 Husky Jerk got me on a good bite with several 2-3 pounders, one 4 and this big one. Really a memorable afternoon. This is my kind of guy, love the rig too bad I don’t have Zodias in spinning (2 baitcaster) and that husky might be the same as my favorite color. 4 Quote

That's one of my JDM 6'4" models. I have two, an ML and a L. Wonderful lightweight rigs with the 1000 Stradic FA's. I swapped out the short handles for longer 2500 ones and added septon knobs. Can't stand the round EVA ones. And yes, that HJ is Tenn Shad like the one with your nice bass. Every one I buy wants to float so I have to modify them with different hooks, split rings, etc. Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted December 26, 2020 Global Moderator Posted December 26, 2020 @The Bassman, which line do you throw? All the husky jerk I’ve used lately suspend on 6 lb mono . Then again I think I use # 10 model. I can watch the line floating on surface for “strikes on the pause” in dead of winter Quote

I actually get a lot of satisfaction out of fine tuning them. 1 Quote

Yes it slow float, all my HJ08 do that too. You can see that I add a little bit of copper to front hook to get it suspended right. I wanna add more spinning rod, especially Zodias series, but afraid it will not get use as much. I only use spinning when Neko Rig or dropshot. Quote

Nothing like freezing on the lake and skunking the same day. Sounds like typical winter appetite! Glad you had fun, and thanks for posting to let all us other guys live vicariously through you! 1 Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted December 30, 2020 Super User Posted December 30, 2020 Caught this 21 inch skinny fish off my dock a little while ago on a 7 1/2 black with blue tail culprit worm. I had walked down and cast right near my boat, hooked the fish and he got off. Waited a few minutes and cast in the same spot , and got bit again... 13 Quote

VGT Posted January 1, 2021 Posted January 1, 2021 Been fishing in San Luis Obispo CA, small ponds at the college. Caught a small one on a white jig fluke tail. And my buddy one on a green pumpkin jig with a plasma ned trailer. Both under 2 pounds. Got the little row boat out on the bigger pond and fished jigs, spinners and Ned rig all day with no bite. Back to bank fishing the other ponds skunked 4 more times until yesterday, figured I’d try a crank bait for fun and nailed one on the first cast. Stuck around another hour and caught a 3.5# on the same craw shallow diver. Went back today a little later with no luck, crankbaits, jerk bait and jig. Sorry if the images aren’t the best was having issues with upload size. 13 Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted January 2, 2021 Super User Posted January 2, 2021 Had a nice few hours with spots, LM, and even a couple trout thrown in. No big spots yet but they were sure nice and healthy. 14 Quote

Glad you got a few, sounds like there were several skunks mixed in! Thanks for the report! Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 4, 2021 Global Moderator Posted January 4, 2021 Got in my first trip of the year. Had several misses I wish I'd have got in the boat, but I did put a few on the board, including one that really counted. 18 Quote
