It was nice of the first one I landed to puke up the minnow they're feeding on to confirm I was at least semi matching the hatch. Wow, looks fun. Very nice fish, sure choked that bait!! I can't believe they wouldn't hit the other stuff, they aren't supposed to be that picky!!! Go figure, a screwhead and spark shad, all the latest glam on the net these days. How many were you able to pick off with that setup? Is it just a matter of time before they are conditioned to that too? I mean a keitech or an underspin ain't THAT much different... Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted October 10, 2020 Super User Posted October 10, 2020 @ryanerb my take is they can just get finicky this time of year, especially when the water is real clear and the weather conditions are changing. A small Keitech on a swimbait head is still my #1 or 2 confidence bait... just wasn't what they wanted that day for some reason. They smashed that screwhead when they bit, but I sure wish the hardware held up a lot better. Quote
Ktho Posted October 10, 2020 Posted October 10, 2020 Gave some new cranks a try and worked out pretty good 15 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted October 11, 2020 Global Moderator Posted October 11, 2020 Bass were a little tougher to come by Friday, but I still managed to catch plenty. Still no big smallmouth like I was hoping. They seemed to be skittish, just nipping at the bait, caught a lot of them on the trailer hook. Missed one in a laydown on a spinnerbait so I flipped a Hoodaddy back into it, pretty sure what I got isn't what missed my spinnerbait but it was still fun. Towards the end of the day, I hooked a fish on an underspin that took off and pulled line so I thought it was going to be a wiper. Then I saw color and it was gold, so I started cussing this stupid carp that I must have snagged and horsed the heck out of it just trying to get it in as quick as I could and get it gone. Once it got closer, I realized I'd hooked the biggest walleye I've ever had on my line and I'd dang near straightened my hook pulling on her so hard. Got really lucky to get my hands on it but put a new PB walleye in the boat of 5.62 pounds. I was unpopular with the guys on the bank when I carefully released her to say the least. Saturday I took the johnboat out to the same little tributary creek I fished earlier in the week to try and explore further up the creek. I got way up there and caught fish the whole way. I got another good one and after looking closer, I wonder if it's not one of the same fish I caught last week. It had a hole in it's gill plate and a torn up dorsal fin, a lot like the one I caught a few days ago, but it was almost a mile further up the creek. Wednesday's fish Saturday's fish 11 Quote

Super User gim Posted October 13, 2020 Super User Posted October 13, 2020 Saturday produced the best outing of the entire season. My friend and I caught 25 bass and 7 pike in about 5 hours including several mammoth largies, and even a few good size pike on accident. We caught all of them on moving lures. They refused to bite a slower finesse presentation. 11 Quote

TriStateBassin106 Posted October 14, 2020 Posted October 14, 2020 Had a fun time catching em on the ned rig lately! Had a good time sunday with a buddy of mine caught a couple nice ones biggest being 2.3lbs! Best part was we shouldn't have caught anything because the conditions sucked but we were persistent! 8 Quote
Super User gim Posted October 14, 2020 Super User Posted October 14, 2020 Man that is just painful to watch when people jab the hook on a scale through the fish's mouth. Get rid of that thing and use a clamp. 3 Quote

I've seen several fish flop off using the hook and smack themselves on the floor or ground and end up stone dead. A clamp is the way to go, my friend. Keep up the good work. Why they even sell scales with those stupid hooks is beyond me. 1 Quote

I can't find that setup anymore anywhere so I just ordered the size 6 from Bass pro a few days ago. Dicks sporting goods used to sell the combos a lot couple years back. Quote

Super User NYWayfarer Posted October 18, 2020 Super User Posted October 18, 2020 30 degrees this morning at sunrise. I fished the Ned Rig several different ways, slow roll, short hops. It wasn’t until I deadsticked it that this nice 2 pound Smallmouth took it. I was watching the line. It was apparent that a fish had the bait when the line never stopped moving when I know it should have hit the bottom by now. http:// http:// http:// 11 Quote
