galyonj Posted September 14, 2020 Posted September 14, 2020 Went out with @TnRiver46 and another buddy on Saturday. Caught a mess of tiny fish – all new species for me: smallmouth, a spot, and a rock bass. It was rad, even though we had to watch for tigers the whole day. ETA: I could have left everything at home except my spinning rod, a pack of stick baits and some 1/16oz jig heads. They weren't touching anything else. 10 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted September 14, 2020 Global Moderator Posted September 14, 2020 @galyonj is the wacky rig master. Had some river buddies even deliver a new fishing shirt and two goose breasts out on the water. Eventful day 12 Quote
galyonj Posted September 14, 2020 Posted September 14, 2020 @TnRiver46 those mean little babies on Saturday taught me more about fishing a wacky rig and a ned rig than I think I've learned the entire time I've been trying to fish them. I wish I had just started with that instead of all the other junk I threw. lol I also wish we'd been able to hook up on that gar you and I kept chasing. 1 Quote
Jermination Posted September 14, 2020 Posted September 14, 2020 bunch of fish over the last month or so. So glad we're out of august and fishing is starting to pick back up! 16 Quote

Do it early, then sit in the AC and relax. lol Quote
JohnFromLisbon Posted September 14, 2020 Posted September 14, 2020 Headed south on Friday afternoon, went fishing on Saturday. On my very first cast with the new spinning rod I got this 1 and 3/4 lber on a drop shot Super Fluke. About an hour later, caught this 19 incher. I yelled out for my buddy to bring the scale because he had with him but he was too far, so I couldn't get the weight on him. Maybe 3 1/2 lbs? Same deal, but this time on a Super Fluke Jr. Wanted to film the release in slow-mo, but he got antsy as soon as we were near the water so the release part was a little less graceful... 8 Quote
TriStateBassin106 Posted September 14, 2020 Posted September 14, 2020 As I said last week the bite was good but the quality ones still haven't showed up, well last night they sorta did...landed this hog under the pond fountain slow jigging a war eagle finesse jig black and blue paired with a baby rage menace trailer, based on his fat belly he was probably feeding on shiners which are plentiful in this pond and are big. 11 Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted September 14, 2020 Super User Posted September 14, 2020 Another solid fish (4.01#) from the local res over the weekend on another of my favorite finesse jigs, the Booyah Baby Boo. 11 Quote

Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted September 15, 2020 Global Moderator Posted September 15, 2020 Disclaimer: I don’t catch many largemouth so pardon my excitement Crazy day. So they finally started dropping the lakes upstream of me. That means 2 (two) 30,000 acre lakes have to come down 30 feet for the winter. All that water has to come rushing by my house, and it started in earnest on Monday. I got off work and told my buddy to meet me at the boat ramp. When I arrived at home, my fiancé’s car is blocking my truck and boat. I can’t find her keys and she’s not answering.......... I start trying to wiggle the boat out but finally she calls me and tells me where the keys are, my buddy has been at the ramp 30 minutes haha. When I launch the boat, I can tell the current is rolling, I say to my buddy this should push a lot of fish up onto the bank. Sounds like a good plan but we always fish the bank anyway, it’s just a narrow river channel with boat traffic up the middle. Got a dink spotted bass and dink smallmouth with a worm, I decided the skunk is gone so just throw the frog, my new favorite the booyah toad runner. I missed 3 dinks immediately then BLAM!!! Got a largemouth maybe pushing 3 lbs. I was pretty excited about that and my buddy said let’s go fish the barge ties with Texas rigs. The current was so fast I cut the motor about 100 yards upstream of them and starting drifting towards them, why not chuck the frog into a creek mouth on the way down. BLAM! I catch a largemouth a little bigger than the first one. I normally get smallmouth, I found it wild that the big wave of current ignited the largemouth. I’ll take it! 18 Quote

Baby boo was the first jig I ever used them I moved on to bigger and "better" things. Caught the crap out of them and put them away. Lately I've been in love with small jigs...mini ball, bass patrol footballs, bitsy bug. Went as far as having Bluebasser make me a bunch of improved bitsy bugs...which are exec btw he did a great job. May have to break the baby boo out again...really like it as a finesse swim jig. 16 hours ago, Team9nine said: Another solid fish (4.01#) from the local res over the weekend on another of my favorite finesse jigs, the Booyah Baby Boo. Finessegenics Posted September 15, 2020 Posted September 15, 2020 The bite was hot yesterday evening. The temps have been cool for a while but I was struggling to catch fish in my last few outings. Seems like the switch finally flipped and the bass are in feeding mode. They’re setting up on the same spots they were in the pre-spawn, which I find interesting. Caught most of em on a ned rig but had a few t-bone my fluke. None of them really got the hook though, it was more of a quick swipe. 12 Quote
DanielGraham Posted September 17, 2020 Posted September 17, 2020 Caught a decent one today at Bon Temp in Marin, CA 9 Quote

schplurg Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 A good week highlighted by this 4.2 pounder at Tulloch Res, California, last week from the dock. Smokey skies from the fires, 80 degrees maybe, late afternoon. YUM Dinger, green pumpkin on "top" and white on bottom. Split shot rigged weedless on 4/0 bla bla... My third largest LMB. I also caught my first night fish, on two different nights, a few dinks, and a few 3 pounders. Lotta fun! 15 Quote
