Water temp was 91 degrees by the time I got off the water today! 90-flippin’-1 degrees!!! All the fish I got today were already broiled...

Well, pretty embarrassing month of July for me. I had a lot going on with the girls softball and trying to get some training done for back to school (or whatever we decide to do). The times I was able to get out it was so hot and the water was above 90 degrees most days so it was slow fishing. I only caught 3 in the pat 2 weeks that broke the 3 lb mark. These here went 4 even, 3-11 and 3-6. Nothing great, but it beats a kick to the rear I guess.

Early Sunday evening, my wife and I were cruising around outside of town waiting for a Subway online order to be ready.  When we approached a bridge over a creek that connects to our local river, I noticed that I had a pole in the truck, so I told my wife "I bet I can catch a fish here within 5 minutes".  She said "Go for it!"

So, I trotted down to the bank with a coppertreuse TRD on a gold 1/8 oz ballhead jig.  Within 2 minutes, I landed a skinny walleye.  Mission accomplished!  The creek is clear and shallow enough to see fish roaming, and although I couldn't tell exactly what the fish were, I kept on casting at them.

Boy, am I glad I kept at it for a few more minutes.  By no means is this a beast by some guys' standards, but it is a very respectable smallmouth for our area, and especially for the little 10 foot wide creek that he was/is in.  She put up an awesome fight, jumping four times before I could get her in.

Finally got something that was photo worthy.  I have thrown a DS a total of 3 times in my life.  Think I will go to it more often ?

Thanks ~

This is a good news/bad news deal I'm sorry to say.

The good news is that every drop shot fish caught this entire month has come on the Berkley Max Scent Flat worm.

Green Pumpkin and Natural Shad.

Admittedly the more I caught with it the more I fished it.

About a week into it, it's been The Only thing I've thrown.

Sort of sad because my drop shot plastics bag weighs 10 pounds . . .

Seems obsolete at this point - the flat worm is like bass crack, right now anyway.

Bad news is that unless you have some or a solid local supply, the bait is hard to get right now.

It was a bad news deal. I could not find the Max Scent Flat worm anywhere. The only thing close to its shape was the Strike King Dreamshot so I  picked up some of those in Green Pumpkin.

Went Kayak fishing this morning with a dropshot rig and a t-rigged rage baby craw. The Dreamshot worked pretty good. Lots of missing tails though. I also used the Tiny Child Rig as the fish were biting the claws of my Rage Baby Craws.

Dropshot fish are no fun to get out of the net.

That’s the only bait I’ve used on a drop shot for a couple years now, and yes, crack is the perfect word to describe it for smallmouth.
I also lucked out last week and found an entire rack of Natural Shad in our local Walmart. Guess who cleared out that whole rack ?

I took my kayak to a small lake today.  Rainy season has started, and the lake was up a couple feet since I was there two weeks ago.  Had a hard time finding the fish.  Got one three pounds on a square bill, then lost 4 square bills, to snags and no bites.  Only had 5 bites all day, but one was 7.9 pounds, making a great day out of a slow day.  After throwing the whole tackle box, a 3/4 oz spinnerbait got the big one.  Didn't get the whole bass in the picture, I'm having a hard time getting a good picture with my camera by myself.   Scared to use my phone because it isn't water proof.

My thumb has never had this problem unless I was dumb with a pickerel, pike or muskie.

Looking at your photo reminds me of a story told by Roland Martin.

On a practice day before a tourney, Roland boated a bunch of good bass.

That same evening he dined with Bill Dance, but was determined to keep his secret.

After some verbal prodding, Bill Dance finally grabbed Roland by the hand, and said:

“Uh-Huh, you’ve been handling a lot of fish today!   :laughing7:

Took my fiance's son out in the Commander to catch his first bass on the City Dump.  Third cast, stuck a nice one.  They're all hanging in the grass around 12-15 FOW.  Hardest part is waiting for the bait to get down there. ;)

I think Tom Monsoor had similar trouble at the weekend, he could barely get his fish out of the bag and dropped one of them.
