Super User NorcalBassin Posted May 11, 2019 Super User Posted May 11, 2019 Made the annual spring trip to Clear Lake. First hit on day 1 (senko) went straight to the deep. Thought I had a pig... soon realized it was too good to be true and was a catfish. Pops' first fish... another not bass. Finally got into some bass. Nothing over 4 pounds but everything was a chunk. 20 Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted May 11, 2019 Super User Posted May 11, 2019 Cold (50s) breezy NE wind and rain fast approaching kept me from pullling the boat out yet again. Made a bank trip though to one of my favorite little lakes and made a pass around it, managing 30 before the rain sent me packing. No real biggies, but good enough for me. Here's a few... 18 Quote

Did real well today also. Been a long time since the fish felt warmer than the air. 2 Quote
Ksam1234 Posted May 11, 2019 Posted May 11, 2019 Got my first ever ned rig fish today! And the little fish is the second one lol , caught about 100 smallmouth today! Biggest was 4.11 but didn’t get a pic, most were smaller guys. 15 Quote
Mbirdsley Posted May 12, 2019 Posted May 12, 2019 Went fishing on Wiggins lake today. Only real thing worth mentioning of the 7 bass I caught is this humpback large mouth. I thought it was cool. He obviously dosent have any issues surviving. Caught most of the bass and one pike on zoom 4 inch t-rugged green pumpkin tube 16 Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted May 12, 2019 Super User Posted May 12, 2019 Day 2 of the trip on Clear Lake was awesome. 40+ for the day with no dinks and 2 PB's. PB #1. Flipped a senko deep in a pocket behind some vegetation and it was on right away. Knew it was big when it made a surge for the surface, but when it went back down and started towing the boat around it became evident it was a non-bass giant. No idea on the weight since the mouth was way too soft to hold its mass, but I've never seen a carp anywhere near this big. Length was just a bit over 36" with a 27" girth. Even a bigger fan of 7# Sniper and Owner wacky jig heads after they held up during what was at least 15 minutes of following the beast around. PB #2. Been a very long time since my dad had caught anything over 3-4 pounds (if ever), and I couldn't have been more happy seeing him hook into an acrobatic giant that we were able to get into the net after a few crazy jumps and runs. She came in right at 6 pounds. 25 Quote
PAbasser927 Posted May 12, 2019 Posted May 12, 2019 New PB!! I set a goal in 2018 to catch my first bass over 5lbs. Unfortunately, I was not able to accomplish that last year. I FINALLY made the mark with this tank at 5lbs 3oz. I do 90% of my fishing from a kayak, but I was lucky enough to catch this one from our bass boat where my brother was able to get a great picture (pictures always seem lacking from a kayak). Super pumped! 23 Quote

My friend was out in his boat and he was amused at how they were hitting. I found them only in one spot and we did the buddy system. I had to use the bathroom and he was on is boat. He csme over and picked me up in my kayak so I didn’t lose my anchor spot and he fished while I used the bathroom and got snacks then csme back and picked me up and dropped me back off on my kayak haha 2 1 Quote

JG233 Posted May 12, 2019 Posted May 12, 2019 Standard Quabbin SMB from last week. I didn't get a picture or weight of the big one I caught because it got away when I tried to dip it. 10 Quote

Cold & Cloudy is rarely a good recipe for smb - at least for me. I've had a few trips were they were chewing but by & large it's a tough sledding. Good thing is there usually a good walleye bite, so I'll switch gears. But yesterday the morning was sunny & nice and I couldn't get out. By the time I did, it had turned much colder and no sun. Went anyway, usually don't for that reason though. A-Jay Thanks man! I love all your tips and tricks! Although I think geography plays a role as well because the best smallmouthing we have here is snowing sideways or 39 degree drizzle. I imagine a smallmouth that just got done with ice would rather soak up some vitamin D! What about those post rain toads you caught the other day? Was that a warmer rain? 4 hours ago, JG233 said: Standard Quabbin SMB from last week. I didn't get a picture or weight of the big one I caught because it got away when I tried to dip it. Nice smallie! Always dip after the first quick photo haha 1 Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted May 13, 2019 Super User Posted May 13, 2019 Third and final day of the Clear Lake trip. Lots of numbers with pretty much everything being chunky 2-3 pounders. Got tired of cleaning salad off and switched to topwater… way more action than I anticipated and wish I had dedicated some time each day to it. Bass bite was excellent, but since the carp and catfish also had an affinity for my offerings of course I couldn't go a day without another one of them on a senko. 16 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted May 13, 2019 Global Moderator Posted May 13, 2019 This post is mainly for @Jigfishn10 because of his sense of humor. My mom always wants manual labor and a boat ride for Mother’s day. She is worried about our lake house because it’s pretty much gutted so she wanted me to put down some flooring and a vanity in a tiny half bathroom. As you might expect, I got there before she did and stayed after she left so I could get some fishing done! Also I transported one of my kayaks down there for more efficient fish capturing. Lastly, if you don’t have a life jacket as cool as mine, well then ........ 12 Quote
NittyGrittyBoy Posted May 13, 2019 Posted May 13, 2019 I seen the pictures before I read the caption and was gonna comment on that jacket!!! ? 1 Quote

Hahahah. I was hunting through my boat trying to find one that I wouldn’t mind leaving down there in the weather. Bingo! I strapped it to a dock post, no danger of theft ....... Quote
hawgenvy Posted May 13, 2019 Posted May 13, 2019 Fished a low-key club tournament on a hot day in the Everglades yesterday. My partner and I managed only 9 keeper bass between us all day (along with the usual mess of dinks, oscars, and mudfish). Somehow we won. Only 6 boats so we barely made back our gas money! Anyway, my first fish was this cute little baby on a Megabass jerkbait. 12 Quote
BigSkyBasser Posted May 13, 2019 Posted May 13, 2019 Found a frog bite in May. Weighed the biggest bag I ever have in a tournament, won it, and won big fish. Also broke my PB pike and crappie all in the same weekend. 23 Quote
Dorado Posted May 13, 2019 Posted May 13, 2019 Phoenix Urban Pond fishing today Almost 4 lbs. Middle of the day. Weightless tx-rigged 5” Senko (watermelon w/ green and red flk) 16 Quote

Super User Jigfishn10 Posted May 13, 2019 Super User Posted May 13, 2019 Nice job on the floor, buddy! Is that a ceramic tile or a vinyl tile? Either way it came out nice, your mom must be really happy!! You sure that life jacket won't get stolen? I mean, they don't make em like that anymore? (Psst, there's a very good reason they stop making em, they're butt ugly and no one was buying em) That fish I quoted in this post would still be twice the size of mine if I was competitive fishing with you that day. "Happy mother's day, mom, there's a bar of soap down at the water's edge in case you need to wash your hands. We'll talk about the toilet later!" Quote
