I could tell by the mouth and gill plate compared to your hand. There’s no chance of mistaking that one. 1 Quote
Brad Reid Posted April 27, 2019 Posted April 27, 2019 I post this just because this bull bluegill was so danged pretty. I have caught them much longer than this one on Lake Athens here in east Texas; but, this guy was really, really thick. My flip phone photo doesn't do him justice. Oh, yes! After I put away my ultralight tackle, I got into a mess of LMBs, too! Late afternoon fishing yesterday! Nothing very large, 6 or 7 as I recall, all in the 2 to 2.5 lbs. range. Brad 15 Quote
gnappi Posted April 27, 2019 Posted April 27, 2019 We went out today, despite the morning starting off weird with a C-R-A-Z-Y lady taking pix of us while we were staging the boat telling us we were trespassing in a public park, AND calling the police, we had mediocre results. Two ~1.5 lb LMB in the boat, one just over 2, and a small snakehead. The LMB released unharmed, the snakehead with a severe headache. 14 Quote
Jmp_37 Posted April 27, 2019 Posted April 27, 2019 Just caught this 21incher and scale said 4.78. Just read that a 21inch smallmouth should weight around 5.5lbs. You guys think the scale was correct? 12 Quote
CrankFate Posted April 27, 2019 Posted April 27, 2019 Tried late in the day after the 35-40mph wind gusts died down. Tried a new part of the pond that i never fished before. Cracked open a fresh 1/4 oz Zman Chatterbait White/chartreuse with a chartreuse grub tail. Fished it slow. On the first cast I had one on. Finally they’re biting, I’m gonna kill em today. Nope. 2/3 of the way in, as I tried to pull it over a big stick in the water, I lost it. Too bad the 1/4 oz Zmans didn’t have the gamakatsu hooks. Third cast, I got a couple bites, but whatever it was, it did not have a big enough mouth to get the bait in it’s mouth. Possibly a 3-4 pound carp, because I saw two of them around the area. Threw cast after cast after cast. Nothing. The copoly I was using was birdsnesting up just by looking at it. Until I took about 100’ off the reel. Then it was smooth sailing to no fish. I balled up the line and took it with me so as not to find it wrapped around the necks of any geese, like the one with a six pack wrapper wrapped around its neck. 5 Quote

Mbirdsley Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 Two more on my chatter baits today on muskrat lake in Michigan.. This time the green and white one. 17 inches and another smaller one. Also picked up another on a ned tube. So far this jd the most success I’ve ever had in the month of April One on the left 17 Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted April 28, 2019 Super User Posted April 28, 2019 Been a horrible spring around these parts. Wet and windy - lots of flooding and cool weather, along with muddy water. Haven't been able to get the boat out much at all, but have snuck in a few bank trips the past week. Managed around 60 so far - nothing too big though. Even seeing reports of some males beginning to nest, though I haven't seen it yet on my waters. Here's a couple from this evening after the rain passed. Air temps had cooled down to 47 degrees. Indiana "rock hopping" - One rod, one reel, one bait 21 Quote

By the lack of activity on your blog I thought this HB 1279 thing had you in a funk. These rains have been very good to me lately fishing around drains. 1 Quote
CrankFate Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 Had a few bites. Could not hook them, until finally.......... Dinked by a whisker fish on the jig. 14 Quote

She certainly was ~ Thanks With open water less than a week along in many places water tamps are ranging between 40-50 depending on the size / depth of the lake. It will warm Very Fast with the sun next week. This week is OVC and cold; even getting snow later today. A-Jay Quote

I did not. There were 3 resident vessels on the water at different points throughout the day. Each took turns coming over into the wind when they saw me hook up. Stayed nearby for a bit and then quickly retreated back to a leeward area to get out of the wind. I did not do that and the reward was significant. A-Jay 2 Quote

Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted April 29, 2019 Global Moderator Posted April 29, 2019 We broke down and bought a pontoon. We leave it in the water all the time which is nice because we can just grab our poles, walk out the back door, hop on, and we’re fishing. Yesterday was yard work day, after that I smoked some tenderloin, after that me, the wife, and 6poundbass grabbed our poles, hopped on the pontoon, and went fishing for a little bit. I got skunked, the wife got her first of the year, and 6poundbass hauled 3 in, including this guy. Many more family fishing nights to come. 19 Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted April 29, 2019 Super User Posted April 29, 2019 Yesterday was one of those rare days when lure meant little, but location was everything. Caught fish on anything...once I figured out where they'd be: downstream from lay down, but only if in shadow...all at same depths. 21 Quote

MossyBackDaddy Posted April 30, 2019 Posted April 30, 2019 My son's first ever bass and my first bass of the season. I know a coupe of lunkers but better than getting skunked. 24 Quote
