Super User Choporoz Posted February 5, 2019 Super User Posted February 5, 2019 Went out Sunday and broke some ice with the new Hobie. Only caught one, but she was as good as I get from that water. Unfortunately, I put a new, crap SD in the phone and this is all that's left of the pics. Smidge over 4#...on brand new hair made by a couple local brothers. Pic blows, but little else to brag about this time of year...:) 14 Quote

Fairtax4me Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 Yesterday before work I hit the local mud hole again for about an hour from the bank. Found a sweet spot with crappie piled up in the shallows and bass sitting out a bit deeper. Two dinks and this nice one that went just shy of 4lbs! I spooked the crappie off the bank just beyond casting distance and saw a couple big swirls out in the middle of the school. I tried for about 10 minutes but just couldn’t quite get a lure out far enough to get any attention from the bass that were chasing them. 13 Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted February 9, 2019 Super User Posted February 9, 2019 I havent been out this year yet, just catching a few bank fishing. Today was very windy and cool but didnt feel like going and battling the wind. So I did me some lazy man dock fishing and caught me a 5.10 on a little bream. The beddin' is starting too. They have began scooping right by my bank, like they do every year. This fish was out away from the bank, but was holding just offshore gettin' ready !! 14 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted February 10, 2019 Global Moderator Posted February 10, 2019 What a day. Brutal wind (for this part of the world) and air temps in the high 20s to start. The water temp was around 48. We had one dink smallmouth in the boat for 3 fisherman from about 9 am til 4pm. Then things got interesting for the better!!! My buddy got a nice largemouth down deep with a kietech. Then we hit a flurry of nice smallmouth from about 17” up to 21”. Rattle trap silver buddy and kietech were the baits of choice, one time I got hit insanely hard while my rattle trap was sinking, I had a ton of slack and was watching the line and it took off like a rocket. I think that may have been the 21” fish that we boated, it was all a quick blur after a day of freezing and no action 16 Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted February 10, 2019 Super User Posted February 10, 2019 Fish from yesterday's tournament. 4 fish, 18.99 lbs for third place and BB with a 6.28. 12 Quote
MichaelCopeland Posted February 11, 2019 Posted February 11, 2019 It's been a while since I've really posted on here. Sorry bout that, been pretty busy at work and haven't done much fishing since about the end of October beginning of November. Tuesday, February 5, 2019, I finally caught my new PB of 4lbs 8oz! Caught her in a most unlikely place, the bayou about a 30-45 minute walk from my house. At least for the past year I thought anyways. I'd never caught a bass there. Y'all may remember the 2lb 4oz crappie I posted about a year ago I caught there. Well Tuesday I refused to believe there was no bass in there. I was right. Within my first 10 casts, with a Rayburn red craw colored 1/2oz Booyah One Knocker it was on. She didn't put up much of a fight. After a few more casts, I hit the bridge piling with my crankbait and broke the back treble hook off. So I started using a few other baits I had brought with me. Nothing doing for about 4 hours. Then I went back to the same spot I caught my new PB, put a new treble hook on that One Knocker. Within 3-4 casts, my crankbait banked off the bridge piling and as soon as it hit the water my second bass was on to the tune of 3lbs even. Apparently there is bass in there and I'm guessing only big uns. I believe if there were small ones in there they would have bit pretty much anything I threw. Gonna get back there as soon as I can, cause I refuse to believe that 4lbs 8oz is the biggest one in there. 2019 started out great for me, basswise anyways! Miss y'all and God Bless! ?? 12 Quote

Nobody seems to make the big, thumping baits anymore and so I bought a mold to make just those. I'll keep buying them from the store for the standard stuff, but my 5/8, 3/4, 1oz mold with #7 or #8 single Colorado or a pair of big blades is going to fill a space that has really been missing, especially the hammered blades and copper blades. 1 Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted February 11, 2019 Super User Posted February 11, 2019 Got to fish at a couple of my work route ponds. ( I do sales, so often have gaps of time between stops ) Today I was at one of the parks I frequent. I usually fish the middle pond first. Today I started there ,felt the thump, set the hook, and the fish broke the hook off at the shank. Went back to the truck to retie, and when I got back a dad and his kid were right at the best spot at the drain ( where I was fixing to fish ). The kid was throwing rocks in the water , smh. So I bailed out from there and went to the front pond ( where I hadnt caught any before.)Ended up getting these 3 healthy fish on a zoom super fluke. Watermelon with gold flake. Now if I can just sell something today.... 12 Quote

There is a reservoir I use to fish where bass would kill a slow-rolled big spinnerbait with a #7 Colorado blade. You literally had to crawl it across the bottom with the blade barely moving. But you are right, big, heavy spinnerbaits are hard to come by today. Quote
The Bassman Posted February 12, 2019 Posted February 12, 2019 Have had to wait nearly a month but got out a little this afternoon as a front was blowing through. Actually, did pretty well with six fair sized bass. We're on a temperature roller coaster here lately. Spring is coming. The ground hog said so. 13 Quote

Gotcha. A friend of mine knows the guys that make them, he gave me a box of them once. I’ll send you a couple pics and see if you might want any of them. I thought I recalled seeing a few thumpers Quote
Russ E Posted February 13, 2019 Posted February 13, 2019 Took advantage of a nice February day. shakyhead produced the only bites I got. not many bites, but I will take quality over quantity. One of the fattest Bass I ever caught. It was shaped Like a football. 16 Quote
hawgenvy Posted February 14, 2019 Posted February 14, 2019 My wife said I was nuts for going out to fish in the rain tonight, but it was well worth it, as three four-pounders and a number of feisty bucks were amongst those captured. The lure du jour was the Eco Pro Tungsten Trokar Flipping Jig, the head Sharpied black to cover wear, finished with a Rage Craw trailer. 15 Quote
Fairtax4me Posted February 14, 2019 Posted February 14, 2019 Off work at 5 and in the car to ride to my local muddy honey hole to hit my spot. Uncle Ned still putting in the work catching bass! After a few days of cloudy and rain we finally got a sunny day today, albeit slightly breezy and not exactly warm. Made a few casts to see if they were deep or up shallow and found them pretty much where I left them last time. Maybe a bit deeper, but still very much within reach from the bank. First up was a 3.7lb chunker! A few casts later caught a nice maybe pound and a half. Kept working that spot and maybe 20 minutes later hooked a GIANT!!! Major Adrenaline rush because this fish hit and just started peeling drag when I set the hook! Finally got to reel some line in and it starts peeling again! Holy ice cream Batman this gotta be a new pb... Nope, just a fat 2.5 lber I somehow managed to hook in the tail! Smack bottom center in the meat just before the fin. The only time a 2.5lb bass is a disappointment... Clear skies, cold tonight (mid 20s), but warm and sunny the next two days! Hopefully the juice will still be on! 13 Quote

Haven't seen open water in what feels like an eternity, even though it's only been a couple weeks. Maybe tomorrow. Mike, The photo makes her look bigger than she actually is. She was really fat so I am guessing between 6 and 7lbs. The water has been really muddy here. She hit a mop jig in some timber laydowns 1 Quote
