jbmaine Posted October 11, 2018 Posted October 11, 2018 Congratulations on what looks like a fun day for you and the Mrs.'s . I see she uses a spincaster. That's all my wife uses too. Nobody will ever convince me they aren't capable of handling big fish. 1 Quote
HeyCoach Posted October 11, 2018 Posted October 11, 2018 I’ve had a bit of a slump for most of the summer and have been routinely catching small spotted bass right at sunrise using a 90 series Whopper Plopper in one small area around the neighboring pier.  Little fella fought above his weight class. I thought it was bigger as I was reeling it in. 15 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted October 13, 2018 Global Moderator Posted October 13, 2018 They are eating up plastic worms lately! We actually got a real cold front and water temp dropped to .......... 73... but it was chilly  15 Quote

CybrSlydr Posted October 13, 2018 Posted October 13, 2018 My brother and I both caught our new PERSONAL BESTS today!!!  I caught mine on a 3/0 EWG screw lock Trokar with a BioSpawn Black/Blue worm with a 1/4oz bullet weight. Tail looked bloody and was mutilated like it was spawning. Absolute MONSTER and no way it was any less than 5lbs!    Brother landed one on a belly-weighted 3/0 hook with the same BioSpawn black/blue worm as me.    I'm estimating his was a good 3.5-4lb fish!  We were both shaking with adrenaline and excitement afterwards - they were SO d**n BIG!!! 15 Quote

MichaelCopeland Posted October 16, 2018 Posted October 16, 2018 For the past few weeks I've only managed to get out about 5 times to do any fishing. Got skunked 4 of those times. Not even a bite! Ugh! Today was a bit chilly with all the rain we've had lately and a cold front moving in. It was misting rain almost the whole time I was there, which was about 3 hours. Within my first 10 casts I got snagged with my new Jackhammer style junebug chatterbait, that I bought from  @Bluebasser86, and broke off. It's gone! I was pretty upset at first, but the good Lord calmed me down. I switched between a few different baits and finally this nonscorable bass tap tapped my 3/16thoz bullet weighted 6" sapphire blue lizard and I skied him across the water back to me. Got a couple more bites, but nothing committing. I lost an awesome bait today and didn't catch anything worth bragging about, but I didn't get skunked again. So that made the day better. There's hardly any accessible bank to fish at Caney Lakes upper side now and they're being funny about me fishing off the boat dock. I could understand it better if there was anybody trying to launch a boat and I was in their way, but there's nobody else there but me when they make a fuss about it. I believe if I have to pay even just the $3 it costs to be in there to fish, then I should be able to fish from that dock when nobody else is there or they should clear out more bank area for us nonboater fisherman or build a fishing pier on this side. I was at a free spot today and it doesn't have very much access either and the dink I caught was the first fish I've ever caught there. Gonna have to find a different spot to start fishing I guess. ? 13 Quote

Bank fishing can be tough on public water. Have you ever thought about getting a Kayak? they don't cost much and they open up a lot of potential fishing spots. often times you can find a used one for a very low price.  2 Quote

Just haven't had the extra cash to get one thus far. Hoping to be able to get one by the time the prespawn and/or the spawn get here again next year. Not very promising it'll happen before then unfortunately. ? 1 Quote

MichaelCopeland Posted October 16, 2018 Posted October 16, 2018 I have a couple buddies that have one, just getting them to ever go fishing is like pulling teeth. They always seem to have better things to do in their spare time. I can't think of much that's better than fishing in my spare time. ? 1 Quote

MichaelCopeland Posted October 16, 2018 Posted October 16, 2018 Lol...right! What's the point of them having a boat if they never make time to use it? If I had a boat I'd be using it every day or dang near. ? 1 Quote

It has probably been on the water less than a dozen times. My sister is always getting on him about selling it, so they don't have to make payments.  I have a 2 year old Ranger Z 175, that is on the water 20 hours a week 10 months out of the year. I get it out the other 2 months if there is open water. I had to replace the trolling motor batteries last month, because they were already wore out. 3 Quote

Super User J._Bricker Posted October 17, 2018 Super User Posted October 17, 2018 My last good topwater fish, slurped down the popper! This time I was able to get her, da scale, with the weight all on the same pic. It’s  a lot of fun when they’re chewin’, you only have one rod in your hand and it’s a topwater rod! Good fishing, JB 19 Quote
keagbassr Posted October 18, 2018 Posted October 18, 2018 Got out today for what was my first day on the water with the sun shining since sept.6th. The price for that luxury air temp 35 at launch with a cold NW wind gusting to 20+. Managed just 2 ;1 on a spinnerbait and this 3-3 on a buzzbait. 14 Quote
Super User everythingthatswims Posted October 19, 2018 Super User Posted October 19, 2018 Worked my butt off for one bite today. It was a gorgeous fish, but man was it slow out there. Air temps was 35 when we launched, and mid 40s when we got off the water at 2pm, Water temp 64. I definitely would have stayed longer but had to make it to an exam. I fished shallow, deep, and in-between. I am pretty convinced they just weren't eating today, at least not while I was there!  However, after fishing tirelessly all day, I missed this fish, made the same cast and had it pegged for at least a full second after it swam my bait away from the log, and it returned to the same spot to eat again on the third cast. I really don't know what was going on out there today  19 Quote
Ksam1234 Posted October 19, 2018 Posted October 19, 2018 Just a couple from today’s outing, only had two hours to fish with 15-20 mph winds ina. Canoe.. funny thing is the swimjig destroyed it today. Caught about 15 with 10 being on the swimjig and the others the jackhammer ! 12 Quote
LonnieP Posted October 20, 2018 Posted October 20, 2018 After a slow start today i decided to go shallow in the creek and throw a lipless Crankbait around the pads and then it was game on. Here’s the two biggest of the day. 17 Quote
hawgenvy Posted October 21, 2018 Posted October 21, 2018 Just got out of the hospital after a little bout of pneumonia. I know, I'm supposed to take it easy. But isn't taking a leisurely 1 hour stroll along a nearby golf course pond -- just me and my T-rig -- taking it easy? (My wife didn't think so, but that's her opinion.) Anyway, my little Rage grubs were gobbled down by some really nice bass tonight. One of them had a pointy belly due to a massive bluegill in her gut, the tail of which was still in her mouth. She was awfully greedy to want my grub for desert before she could swallow its predecessor. Also, I was blessed by the appearance of a great blue heron, wood storks, a rare (for me) roseate spoonbill, and a beautiful sunset.  Now it's time to kick my feet up and relax with a gulp of Robitussin, peruse the pages of BR, and try to burn tonight's little adventure deep into memory.  19 Quote
RealtreeByGod Posted October 21, 2018 Posted October 21, 2018 Is this a spotted bass? When I caught it, it looked like a largemouth to me and was in an area where I was catching mostly largemouth. But after reviewing the picture, it looks alot more like a spot. I still suck at telling the difference.   8 Quote
