Is it solely from rain or is there some kind of dam/river control? There is a dam, but it has no flood gates, or hydro electric generators. When the reservoir gets full the water flows over the top. The area gets zero rain from around the first of Nov. to the first of July. Then it rains almost every day, with thunder storms in the evenings, that can dump over an inch of rain in less than an hour. The lakes in this region, fluctuate 50 to 80 feet from low water in June to full pool in October. Water level, and clarity determine the location of the bass far more than water temperature. The surface temp. never gets below 60 degrees, or above 80 degrees, and is between 65 and 75 most of the year. The bass do like the many flooded fence lines. My guess is they use the fence line to travel from deep to shallow water, or maybe they simply enjoy cutting anglers line off on the wire. Whatever the reason, I am forced to spend a lot of my fishing time casting to these lure eating fences. The Bait Monkey wants me to try casting glide baits for the bass in this lake. The Monkey and I are good friends, but I don't ever see myself casting an expensive bait anywhere near this area. Just to make sure I never do, I wont even purchase a glide bait. 3 Quote
Pumpkin Lizard Posted November 7, 2024 Posted November 7, 2024 The Mayor came through on election night. I think I am geeking out on Crush City products. I love this swimbait. It's like a mini magdraft. I drove by my neighborhood pond at lunch and saw the wind pushing everything up against the rip rap like it had been for 4 straight days. I suspected the bass were stacked up there so I hit it up after work and they were. Had a limit in 15 minutes and kept going for another 30 minutes. Also the time change is always awful. 15 Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted November 7, 2024 Super User Posted November 7, 2024 I love the Mayor. Nice haul! 1 Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted November 8, 2024 Super User Posted November 8, 2024 Small keepers are better than no keepers 🤣 at least in my book. All on crankbaits again. Cool bonus fish was a blacknose crappie. Water still needs to cool down more to fire the bite up, I think. 15 Quote
Pumpkin Lizard Posted November 8, 2024 Posted November 8, 2024 Another football caught with The Mayor. Need to dump this Boxer Jig. After three fish it the bait slips and won't hold in place. Probably going to give the VMC Hybrid Swimbait Jig a shot next. 12 Quote

My Mayors don't last long for me too, but with my VMC Heavy Duty underspins, I squeeze out more than three bass. 1 Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted November 8, 2024 Super User Posted November 8, 2024 @Pumpkinseed Lizard: I also had good luck at the end of this season with the Yamamoto Zako in Chartreuse Shad Laminate, but lawdy, it's a three bass and done bait. So soft. 1 Quote
softwateronly Posted November 8, 2024 Posted November 8, 2024 The bass haven't been fired up when I'm there, but they're still around and somewhat willing. A few highlights; City bass Country bass 2.75" tube; 1/2oz jig, and 1/2oz finesse scrounger did the work. scott 13 Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted November 8, 2024 Super User Posted November 8, 2024 @softwateronly: Those are plump bass. So cool that you catch smallies within sight of skyscrapers. 1 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted November 8, 2024 Global Moderator Posted November 8, 2024 PB alert!!!! 🚨 (attn: @gimruis) The evening began with a dink smallie Then I got another tap tap tap, assumed it was a dink but felt heavyish. Turns out it was an 11.5” rock bass 11 2 Quote

Doesn't remotely resemble the ones I'm used to seeing. The ones I see look like swimming turds with red eyes covered in scars and wounds. I'm not sure what's more embarassing here. The rock bass itself or the fact that the rocky is bigger than your smallmouth. I woulda not posted the smallmouth alltogether lol 1 Quote

You can catch em in the middle of the skyscrapers too, the river has cleaned up enough in the last 30 years to catch bass, mostly LM. These are not my pics, saw them on reddit. This spot is near my apt and I have a somewhat secret free parking spot nearby; otherwise it's more of a time, money and/or train thing to other areas that I know have fish. Plus, the smallies get chunky and the deep water and current means they don't ever stray too far away. scott 10 Quote

We loved catching them as kids. We used to ride our bikes about 15 miles to a little creek which had a deep hole and we were as happy to catch rock bass as all the other fish. They're feisty! 20 minutes ago, gimruis said: I've seen him mark his own post to his own thread as the solution! Well, Johnny Law is the law, so he's allowed to do that. 2 2 Quote

I was frankly so happy to catch them and I think others enjoyed seeing them too: For whatever reasons, I don't even catch many pickerel nowadays. It's 65% LMB and 31% SMB and 3.94% pickerel and 0.06% yellow perch, which explains why two yellow perch thrill me. 2 Quote
