I’d say smallmouth, but couldn’t completely rule out a hybrid, either. Lots of smallie characteristics in that fish

The yellow belly indicates perch.

The green indicates lmb.

The striping indicates smb.

So, it's a perchy slmb

Except yellow perch and bass can't interbreed even with 'help'...too much genetic difference.

Had a great hour of strikes this morning before the bite died altogether, I had probably 20 bites that caught 5 barbs and landed one superdink. They just couldn't make contact with the bait itself, always an inch or two to the side. Frustrating, but better than no bites at all. Try again tomorrow

Yesterday was hot, 90° weather, Southwest winds were blowing hard. This morning it was 53° with a northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.

I was working a bluegill colored spinnerbait in 2 to 4 ft of water near stumps and lay downs. Caught a 4 lb bass, and then this 5 lb 3 oz Largemouth bass. This is the largest bass I've ever caught in Nebraska.

Put 14 bass in the boat in a little over 3 hours. Darn good day!

@DaubsNU1   Congrats brother, that's a magnificent fish!    I knew you were going to catch a 5lb class fish on that lake, and I'm excited about seeing the future 6lb class fish you catch from it 🙂

I love seeing my fishing brothers catching big northern bass! Alas, Alex will soon be catching bass that could bully our bass.

Just a few creek bass from yesterday morning. I only took one rod and one 3500 box and it worked out just fine. Good thing I took a spool of 10lb fluorocarbon line because I backlashed on my third cast after getting bit twice in a row.

After catching a couple of 1.5, 2 lb fish on these little Keitech jigs with straight fluoro... This setup is definitely going back to braid to a leader. I'll just adapt my cadence and action with jerkbaits, it's fine.

Caught five out last Thursday at a usual spot of mine.

These next two came from a trip to Virginia this weekend.  I met up with a buddy of mine from N. Carolina and spent all day Saturday on the water.  Rough time fishing but the weather made up for it.

All came on some denomination of spinnerbait except for the last, he came on a dropshot.

Strip pond No. 4 today.  Today was a quantity day.  27 to be exact.  Was hoping for a few bigger ones but they were MIA.

All except three were caught on the double willow War Eagle which I cast into laydowns on the opposite bank, or when I casted along the bank I was on in my direction of travel to “clear” it before I could spook them.

The other two fish I caught with a Rapala Husky Jerk out in open water once the pond got too wide for me to hit the opposite bank.

The last fish I caught on a white SK heavy cover swim jig with a rage tail.

Best five below…

@bp_fowler: So impressive for a bank fisherman in heavily-fished Ohio.

@A-Jay: Beautifully marked bass!

It’s always a good time when A jay is slinging the swing head. Rage bug ?

Thanks - You called it.

I'm writing up a short report post now that includes a very brief video of this particular catch.

Got a tip from a friend there were some fish schooling, my goodness were they ever. They were so violent, I was even able to feed one a spinnerbait. Got surrounded and even splashed by fish crashing thru shad. I took some video of far away fish schooling after I had already gotten several, should have ran some video when I was sitting in the middle of the blitz but I couldn’t stop casting long enough

Little guy and a three pounder both on spinnerbaits.  Buddy of mine pulled up a largemouth a bit bigger than mine and a handful of perch on a beautiful fall day.

I haven't seen any of that on our end of the river yet, but if you are that means it's getting close.

Slow day with cold front moving in, blue skies, cloud arrival delayed, and light winds. Just stuck a few long skinny guys along with 8-10 crappie. Wind blows today, but hoping for a change of scenery on Friday.

Another tough morning yesterday of missed strikes, I blew it on all of the nicer fish. I still caught 8 and provided a mild show for the other anglers around, but I had barbs in a few really solid feeling fish. Thankfully I never saw them. Sooner or later I will get them stuck stuck. The common denominator with the lost fish is the vmc trebles I'm using, I got some of those finesse trebles with the slick coating. While they are very sticky, they slip out way too easily. I want to like them but for distance hooking they're just too slick. Back to the gamakatsu short shank ewg trebles I love so much. Off to the panhandle tomorrow to play a show and fish lake Meredith for smallmouths
