Super User Swamp Girl Posted July 22, 2024 Super User Posted July 22, 2024 @Choporoz: Great shoulders! Quote Once I was daydreaming and about to lift the plopper from the water when one stuck at bankside! That was a jolt! That's always jolts me too. I had a big one do that about a week back, but she thrashed free. 1 Quote

But, while some 22 1/4 would bump past 7, I don't think this was much over 6. No scale in the kayak... no bump board on the boat... I may need to figure out why I am like that 1 Quote
IcatchDinks Posted July 23, 2024 Posted July 23, 2024 A few bass from this weekend: That last one was a real nice size, and I watched a massive smallie at least twice his size chase him in. Didn't manage to catch the monster, but I'll be back. 20 Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted July 23, 2024 Super User Posted July 23, 2024 Been 2-1/2 weeks since I last got the boat out, but finally got a break in the heat and rain. Snatched this one off a brushpile this afternoon. 23 Quote
Bazoo Posted July 23, 2024 Posted July 23, 2024 Private lake. First success with the Ol Monster. Been trying it a while here and there. River bass was a fighter. Moss covered pond is on the way, so I will hit it if I ain't tired after a trip to the river. Private lake the next day. The boy likes his hula popper... looks more like a 5 gallon bucket going across the water the way he pops it! Couple days later, got skunked at the river but got one at the mossy pond with the Ol Monster. Building confidence. Crankin' stick will bring them in without any effort. This one was at the heavily pressured city lake... in a spot that doesn't see quite as much pressure. Little guy got introduced to the boss. 20 Quote
thediscochef Posted July 23, 2024 Posted July 23, 2024 The pier is still underwater, but I was able to get some good size fish out of roberts this evening. It's been just over two months since I caught a fish at this spot, just under two months since it was hit by a tornado. It feels good to be home. Skinny Bass on a slow rolled red eye shad but still the biggest one I've caught since March. The Devil's ugliest 10lb sock on a crappie jig and 8lb test 24 Quote

Super User Swamp Girl Posted July 23, 2024 Super User Posted July 23, 2024 @Pat Brown scores too! Frog fish too, which is both the funnest and hardest way to catch a bass. I had an absolutely normal trip this morning: 40 bass and a couple four-pounders, which makes me laugh because I just described my typical 2024 trip as just that. I got some cool photos and I'll post a separate trip report as soon as I warm up by drinking some chai tea and taking a hot shower. It rained on me much of the morning and my used Ebay raincoat does NOT keep my dry. 3 1 Quote

Not gonna lie, Crick - I haven't hardly caught a fish in months that wasn't on a frog. A couple here and there on flukes or worms - but this year - I can't stop and I won't stop until they stop biting it 🐸🐸🐸😂😂😂 I mean would you?!?! Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted July 23, 2024 Super User Posted July 23, 2024 Just now, Pat Brown said: I mean would you?!?! Yes, I would because my heart can't take frog fishing. When they hit a frog, they want to obliterate it. They hit and I scream. I just want to wave a white flag and surrender. However, I almost tied on a frog this morning because between the rain, fog, and wind, I couldn't read the water; I couldn't see the open spots to cast. 1 Quote

You learn to anticipate the blow up and not fear it so much once you catch a few. 🙂🙂🙂 Stick with it - I reckon you'll be a froggin' master in no time with the water you fish - and I reckon you'll find the biggest girls in your pond on frogs real good. 1 Quote
Super User MIbassyaker Posted July 23, 2024 Super User Posted July 23, 2024 Best of 6 from "Lake 5" this morning In other news, the Rage Tail Space Monkey tops my list of most underappreciated creature baits. Nothing else looks quite like it, and they wouldn't eat anything else today. 17 Quote

IcatchDinks Posted July 24, 2024 Posted July 24, 2024 A little early morning fishing: I got to the pond at 5:30, but the fish have consistently waited until 6 to bite. And right on cue, I got my first bite at 6:05 and the second two casts later. Threw in the towel early an hour later. It was a chilly morning today, dipping into the high 50's. But still beautiful. Later this evening, from 7 to 8, I fished a little honey hole on the Chippewa River and caught two little smallies, and a pike who decided getting hooked once wasn't good enough, and came back to rehit the same lure he'd escaped from earlier. Pike photo in the Other Species thread. Also had an aged turtle impart his secret turtle wisdom to me. It's still a secret from me, otherwise I'd share it. He was probably telling me the secrets to world peace or something. 17 Quote

Cropped the knees out as best I could. These are now “fishing” jeans. They protect against the sun better than shorts, but they won’t make it to another summer. 2 1 Quote

Eric 26 Posted July 24, 2024 Posted July 24, 2024 The last 2 days I’ve stopped at my favorite retention pond after work. Day 1 was being harassed by the bluegill throwing a spinner bait so went back an hour later with an ultralight and caught 1 bass. Day 2 yesterday brought a light powered rod with a VMC marabou jig and picked up 3 bass, a crappie, a bluegill and 1 really nice bass for the size of the retention pond. The biggest one was my first catch and it was a blast on the light powered rod 😃 22 Quote

Alas, I don't speak turtle. But I'm sure his wisdom was far beyond my feeble comprehension anyway. 😄 The final smallie from Sunday was big enough for me to consider it "not-a-dink." 14 or 15 inches. I didn't measure because I was trying to hurry my line back into the water to catch the bigger bass I saw with it. On 7/22/2024 at 10:42 PM, IcatchDinks said: 4 1 Quote
