I think @Bluebasser86's tournament accounts are thrilling. He's a good storyteller and I feel like I'm there.

Made it out to my favorite milfoil patch for an hour today before the weather hit.  Got 4, 3 on the chatterbait, 1 on the crush city mayor.

Tim, do you have a photo of one of your snelled straight shanks? Are you snelling them or do you buy them that way? Also, why snell them? Why not tie them directly to your line?

@T-Billy: Tim, I'm going to buy some right now. Can you suggest a brand and size?

The best way that I can tell you about how to check to make sure if you tied the knot properly is to put a peg and tungsten weight on then snell your hook. To make sure that you did it right put the bullet weight directly against the hook and pull on your line and the hook should rotate up and not down, if the hook drops down you snelled your hook backwards and you have to redo it so that it goes upward and penetrates the plastic. I hope that this helps you out.

I got out on a work buddy’s boat today with one of the other supervisors who works 3rd shift like me after work. We got there and I started throwing a bone one knocker and caught the first fish and plenty more after that one, I lost count. One stuck two treble hook points in my hand while unhooking his little feisty butt. Got the points out and got him unhooked and on his way. I gave my one friend a white freeloader for his jackhammer and he did good with it. I caught the biggest skinny little fish of the day at 18” long and 2.78lb he was thin or it would probably be a 3.5-4 if I was lucky. I then decided to throw a jika rig and tried multiple plastics but no takers, I did manage to saw into my finger with braided line on hook set once yay. My last fish came on the chatter bait. It was a good day.

With my phone after I select the photos there an options menu on the lower left that lets me select full size, small, medium, or large.

Of course  that might depend on the kinda phone you have.  Lots of folks on here use photo hosting sites like photbucket too.

I posted the instructions on how to shrink photos on Android a while ago...

Blanked at Meredith this morning but getting to see things like this makes it a little less painful

Thanks for the info. I am what one would call an absolute minimal phone function user.

@The Baron I use a third party images hosting site. Postimages.org is what I use. Then I use the link from that site and paste it into the "insert image from URL" option in the "Other Media" tab.

@CDMTJager this is what I do. I hate resizing photos. It's too much hassle for me.

I would love that. Maine is 90% forested, so we don't have vistas. Lightning was even rare a decade ago, but it's more and more common now.

Quick morning trip.  This guy stole a blade off my spinnerbait and I didn’t have much luck after that.

Two fish from a short float on the river. Spotted two of the fish I was looking for but unfortunately by the time you can see them it’s too late. I really dislike these catfish, they slam a bait so hard you think you have a giant for the first few seconds then the rolling starts. The smallie came off one of the sunken trees I was able to spot at a sufficient distance to make a bomb cast downwind. Another 19” 3.5lber. Getting into that next class of fish is proving difficult, they are spooky and only seem to hit at the end of the cast.

I often experience this too, i.e. catching a bass at the farthest end of my farthest cast.

I caught about 24 bass today and probably 20 of them over 15 inches. High blue skies, the day after a cold front passed through. Plastic worm and spinnerbaits were the most effective. My largest 4lb 7ozs caught on a bluegill patterned spinnerbait.

Well, we head for North Carolina tomorrow evening, and I'll be away from my home waters for 11+ days. So I went down to the Chippewa for a few goodbye casts before I pack up all my fishing gear for the trip. Landed one very fat smallmouth who fought like the Dickens and decided to call it a day. Now I'm off to fuel up the car and pack before work tomorrow.

It feels a shame to leave my home waters behind just now. The water levels are back to the perfect depth, the fish seem super active and healthy. But I will have the opportunity to fish some private ponds down south, and that should offer some new opportunities. Plus, I really love the in-laws we're going to visit. Should be fun.

Unexpected change to the weather forecast for the better made me sneak out for about 2.5 hours this afternoon. Very slow bite, but if you’re going to only get one, it’s nice when it turns out to be a good one 😎 Crushed a deep crank.

Went out to target smallies this morning. After catching about 20 smaaaalll smallies up shallow, I decided to hit a steep drop-off (40 FOW) and managed a handful of 18-19.5 inchers on drop shot. A few on a finesse jig. The biggest weighing in right at 4 lbs.

I may have a new favorite drop shot bait after today. Keitech Easy Shaker (3.5"). It got bit when other DS baits wouldn't. These things SMELL ('squid scent'). Not the most durable. But they do have a really nice quiver to them with the slightest movement.

Tons of these dinks caught before finally finding the bigger ones. But you can tell they're eating and look really healthy. Good for the future of this fishery.
