I've been chasing a master angler patch every since I heard about it, and got close with a massive pumpkin seed a while back. They informed me that they believed it to be a hybrid, and I wanted to know if there were actually any purebreds left. 😆

Nice!  I caught a White Crappie last year that would have qualified for a Master Angler patch, but didn't think to check until I got home....and discovered I hadn't gotten a photo of the measurement.

Fished a pretty long day today logging about 9.5 hours between two different bodies of water. Caught a total of 32 bass, 15 on a buzzbait, 10 on Texas rig yo mamma and 7 on a spinnerbait with the best of the day a 4-14 and 3-10 both on the buzzbait.

Rain held off, winds were calm, so squeezed in a few hours this afternoon. Managed a limit of bass and a couple bonus crappie. Water temps now in the upper 70s.

Today was a slow one. I stopped at the Chipola on a road trip and managed a single shoal bass. This fish is a contender for hardest fighting 1lber I’ve ever caught. Thought it was a gulf strain rockfish at first, lol.

Neither photo does this fish justice; the blue color on the tail is hard to capture on camera. Tomorrow, I’m gonna try for Choctaw bass.

I know this thread is useless without pictures, but I had a great day today on my favorite pond and didn't want to stop to take pics. Started at 0700 in a light rain and I almost convinced myself not to go. It rained for about an hour and then quit. I was fishing a Creme Tri Tail grub (yes, the thing at Wal Mart for about $2 a pack of 25) black body and chartreuse tail on a small jig head with a #7 split shot about 6 inches up the line (10 lb braid-Medium Ugly Stik rod). After a couple of hours, I had two LMB (one a tad over 3.5 lbs), four Crappie all over a pound and two Bluegill. Missed a very big LMB that bent the thin wire hook on the jig head. I normally never keep fish to eat but today would have been a nice seafood platter. I kinda wish I had.

Thanks for listening. My family is not as excited about today as I am, but I figured you all would appreciate it. 😉

Great day, @OmegaDPW! A farm pond or something bigger? I love mixed bags.

I caught 6 this morning before the lightening ran me off the lake.  4 Spots and 2 Largemouth(all pictured).  I suppose you could call 5 of them "cookie cutter" Bass since they were all the same size.  The good news is the 5 cookie cutters were all between 15 1/2 and 18 inches.   One was a 11 inch micro Bass.  The first was within my first dozen casts at 5:45.  The last was at 8:53.  I usually try to end my trip with a Bass on my last cast, but today a few minutes and several casts after what ended up being my last Bass I saw some lightening down the lake.   Rain doesn't bother me and wind has to be really bad to run me off, but I don't mess with lightening.   I high tailed it back to the landing and called it a day.  I also caught a small White Perch and small Channel Cat.  No pixels on those. Water temp was up to 75 degrees.  I don't keep "records" but have recently started taking a picture of the water temperature on my graph every trip.   I keep this picture with my fish pictures.  That way I can look back and see the actual water temperature instead of mis remembering.

Dang @Woody B let's go buddy!

I had the pleasure of doing an impromptu guided bank fishing safari with @FishTaxand his son this morning with my son.

It poured hard as all get out but Jake and Josiah got on some catfish and crawdads and frogs while the dads bass fished.

Managed to get Jeremy on a real live bass fish and in fact he did indeed hook one that we estimate was between 5-7 lbs on a Shakey head that came up and jumped 2-3 times before snapping him clean off out in open water on a drop off.

Compress_20240504_145825_5970.jpg.f6fad9f76b463356e9498707255d4da2.jpg

He also got a 50 lb grass carp to hit his finesse jig TWICE and almost hooked her the second time.

We messed around with some bluegill feeders and some wolfpacks but the rain had them literally sliding up and down right before our very eyes all morning!

We had a blast and it was nice having the pond to ourselves on a Saturday and hopefully next time we land that 7 lber when we hook her.

😎👍🏼🎣

Fun half day! One of those times you are thankful for BassResource.  Came down to the lakehouse to retrieve my weedeater (and run it). It was raining when I arrived so I fished out of a kayak for 3 hours, got 7 bass all on the same senko (unheard of, right?!) I took a rigging tip from @TOXIC and left the eye of the hook out. It appears that was the ticket, the man knows his senkos. Also a generous member of the site gifted me the bag of senkos. What a cool website, eh? The gamakatsu nano also was sticking several of them right thru the cheek plate like @Bluebasser86 described, even with 12 lb mono !

came up the hill to clean the gutters and cut the grass before going back home and I could hear the cicadas. Saw a few holes in the ground…… then looked at the siding and chimney and they were out ! IMG-5908.jpg

Thank so much @Pat Brown! We had a great time. The 7 one was crazy. I'm ditching my line and going to braid on the spinning rod as you suggested so she can't break me next time. What a monster!

I learned so much today, an incredible experience all around at the pressured pond! Can't believe how many active beds we saw today. NC is crazy!

Also about that grass carp,  That thing was crazy. Really think Jake should hunt her, big PB potential! Who's ever heard of a grass carp attacking a bass jig? Fun to watch though!

Returned to New Reservoir to see if I could catch some bigger fish than what I have been getting there lately.  Well, this picture sums up how that went.IMG_1801.jpeg.c8bd549b993f662b0c777a131d8ad127.jpeg
Weather was overcast with on/off rain, 67 degrees and 6 mph winds out of the SSE.

I caught 7 more after that first one with the fish pictured below being indicative of their size.

The day wasn’t a total loss however as I kinda have figured out that most of the fish are holding out where the weed line will be around summertime.  There aren’t many fish shallow with most of them being smaller fish in wolf packs (dink packs?).  I caught most of my fish burning a crank over the tops of these submerged weeds and then following up with the floating worm.

In any case I’m hanging in there hoping the big gals will be shallow soon.

Water at my favorite pond is still pretty cool in the 50’s, but that can be a plus as the weeds that choke this one are just getting started, come summer most of the pond is unfishable. Had a good am till the wind wore me out about noon. The best of the day was this one at 5.5, which is a once in a year thing where I fish. White spinner bait with a baby craw trailer.

Second trip DD hunting, another skunk LOL. My fault for picking Somerville. Weather nasty tomorrow in my usual spots. If I go tomorrow I’ll probably just spend a day graphing some of Lake Brownwood

Great fish y’all!

It probably was 100 years ago. I've been fishing it for about 20 years. The owners of the property put a mobile home out there and do family reunions about twice a year. With the odd exception, I'm the only one fishing it. We've pulled a 9 pound bass out of it back in November and I got a 3lb crappie a week ago or so. It's about a 10 acre pond but only 1/3 of it is fishable from the bank. It's a nice place to sneak off to every Saturday for a couple of hours. Especially when the fish are biting. I have been known to catch a skunk there, though. Nothing is guaranteed I guess. 😉

Do you ever think about buying one of those Bass Pro Shop pond boats and stashing it there?

Spent about four hours total fishing today. I tried to make a couple of my own handmade lures official, but nothing would hit em. I did foul hook a bluegill in the eye and he chose to leave his eye behind rather than get caught. (Yikes!) I threw half my tackle bag at em before I finally switched to a #1 Mepps Agila in hopes one of the bluegill would bite. Instead I hooked a bass. Finally!

spacer.png

The Mepps was too small to comfortably use with my medium action pole, so I switched to an actual spinner bait. Managed to catch one more: only my second fish on a spinner bait:

Turns out the fish wanted shiny stuff.

Both of these bass were sitting super shallow. I told this to two other anglers fishing down the bank from me, and I watched them pull in a bass after adjusting. That felt good. What didn't feel good was losing that spinner bait on a submerged log two casts after that.

I also went and spent some time bank fishing the river, but no dice. Those were the only two things I caught today, other than a slight sunburn.

Got a new PB today…..

But it was a mudfish…

We fished a lake we hadnt fished in many years. On the water at dawn. Got halfway to the first spot and Jeff had forgot to put the plug in ( again) . So back to the ramp we go.

Finally get to the spot and the TM doesnt work. Mess with the connections awhile and it starts working. Fished grass edges, docks, cypress, and offshore  all morning . Used Speed worms, culprits, senkos, jerkbaits, Traps,  swim baits,  Bandito bugs, diferrent topwater baits, even a roostertail.  Flipped, pitched, skipped , you name it.Results: 3 halfhearted bites, 1 bass, a smaller mudfish, and my PB mudfish.   It was 8-10 pounds , but I didn't  fool with weighing it..   First bass skunk Ive had in a long time.

It's one of those deals where I don't want to ruin a good thing. In fact, I don't think he even knows how often I'm out there. Better to keep it that way. It's a great pond and only 6 miles from my house. I'd hate to lose the place.
