bp_fowler Posted February 26, 2024 Posted February 26, 2024 Another unseasonably nice day today so I made the trip out to the Gun Club. The water was super clear and I saw signs of life for the first time in a while. Only caught a pair of smallish fish and a had couple follows on the flashy swimmer. 22 Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted February 27, 2024 Super User Posted February 27, 2024 Backside of a high pressure system. SW winds sustained at 15-20 mph with regular gusts to almost 30 mph - was not fun for boat control, but high hit 71 which was nice. Fish didn’t seem to like the frontal conditions either. Only caught two bass and half a dozen crappie, but a couple of them were decent (3 lb. bass; 2.73 lb. crappie). Rain 3 of the next 4 days might really hamper any further trips this week. 23 Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted February 27, 2024 Super User Posted February 27, 2024 Slow at work so I hit the water around 3:15 to dark. Windy , sunny and cool. Decided to fish around our Island first and they weren’t there. Moved on down to the south end , and finally got one on a super fluke. Caught a couple more on it before switching to the Uv speed worm. Got a few more, then switched to a 10 inch grape shad culprit worm, and got 2-3 more as the sun set. I was a little suprised the bite wasn’t better. Got every fish dead sticking . Still cant find any real big fish, although Im seeing some bedding going on . I think the otters may have really decimated our fish over 5 pounds…🙁 All in all, a relaxing afternoon on the water though … 23 Quote
Eric 26 Posted February 27, 2024 Posted February 27, 2024 Got my first fish of 2024 yesterday. Caught 2 but other one picture didn’t turn out😟 They were definitely cold 😬 22 Quote

The first time I went, I had five otters surface by my boat, curious about me. The second time I went, I think I only caught about 5 bass and this was a bog good for 35 bass in 2022. 1 2 Quote

Just the durn thing hangs everything below air level. Stumps, grass, sticks, and fish. 2 1 Quote
Eric 26 Posted February 27, 2024 Posted February 27, 2024 @Blue Raider Bob I had really good luck late last season on an 1/8 oz blue fox spinner but I remember our very own @ol'crickety commented on not forgetting the plain brass mepps and although this is a eagle claw version it still did the job. 2 Quote

I get a kick out of catching bass on such a plain, old lure. 4 Quote

The fishing in my lake has declined steadily in the last 3 years after starting to see otters again. My best day 3 years ago was 35 also, and a 7.6 the same year with an 8.1 the year before . Im hard pressed to catch 10 in the same amount of time, and fish even over 4 pounds seem to be rare. If I could get a shot at the dern things I’d take it… 2 1 Quote

I once saw a nature show about otters and in the show, the narrator said that most predators struggle to kill, missing most of their prey, but not otters, which is why they're so playful and carefree. They expend energy willy-nilly because they're faster and smarter and more nimble than their prey. 3 Quote
Pat Brown Posted February 27, 2024 Posted February 27, 2024 Warm and rainy front got them biting good out on the grassy pond. Found what they were eating too. 23 Quote
thediscochef Posted February 28, 2024 Posted February 28, 2024 Finally hooked into a few of these little beep boops. Freight trained a red eye shad off the end of the ripraps that make up the pier. Such a fun bite. 23 Quote

Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted February 28, 2024 Global Moderator Posted February 28, 2024 Yall ever get surprised? Happened to me today. My boss needed help troubleshooting his depth finder so I helped him for a bit. The wind was blowing 20-30 so I didn’t want to use my boat. Fished off the dock at the paddle shop where we work for 1.5 hours after that and caught 22 fish, 5 species. Got one largemouth that was pretty nice! Check out this state of the art livescope 22 Quote
