Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted February 4, 2024 Super User Posted February 4, 2024 Love how you got so many fishing buddies @TnRiver46, one could make the argument that having great fishing friends is the real prize catch. Beautiful fish as always, and I'd love to fish that 3rd pic. @Pat Brown Thanks buddy, and I agree the novelty of seeing a perfect tree/xmas tree on 2D never gets old. 3 Quote
Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted February 4, 2024 Super User Posted February 4, 2024 3rd day in a row where I'm freezing at 530am, and then in the afternoon it's high 60s. With the lake's clarity finally returned to normal viz, I had a modest improvement only for it to be 50/50 blown out again tomorrow. Fished about 6.5hrs, caught 8.....certainly no "pre spawn" bite lol. Threw a dozen baits which for me is very rare, desperation always leads me to junk fishing. By the afternoon I figured out the crank deal, but still couldn't totally figure it out. Big fish was a 6.4, other weighed fish was a 4.5, and a nice 3lb class Spot were the highlights. Best 5 went for about 16. The SS Junket lol 22 Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted February 4, 2024 Super User Posted February 4, 2024 I'm hoping this is Day One of Streak Two, Alex. Even if it isn't, a six-plus-pounder would send me to bed with a big, goofy grin. 1 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted February 4, 2024 Global Moderator Posted February 4, 2024 Nice fish @AlabamaSpothunter! I see what your early problem with the crank was, the hooks were stuck together 😂 1 Quote
Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted February 4, 2024 Super User Posted February 4, 2024 Thanks Katie! Part of my problem this year is that I assumed it would fish like it did last winter, and that's just not been the case in the slightest. Totally different weather, and the last day I felt like it was going according to the plan was 1/8. Now here I am on the precipice of the biggest girls moving up to spawn for the first time. Nothing has ever puzzled me as badly as big Bass, dang things are gorillas in the mist. @TnRiver46 Thanks buddy! Those Little Jon 50s have become my confidence crank, the Type R is great in the summer, and these silent ones are great in the winter. Circuit board lips, awesome gama hooks and hardware. 1 Quote

Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted February 4, 2024 Super User Posted February 4, 2024 Tried throwing a buzzbait yesterday morning after being inspired to do so by Pat and Woody, however I didn't get Pat or Woody results 😁 I can see a true monster coming up and hitting a big wake bait or buzzbait in 50d water, but the level of confidence to hang with it is the stuff of champions lol. I'm sure I'll blow the dust off the Whopper Plopper once the Queen gets back on the water, always so confusing then when I don't proceed to catch 50 fish on it like her 😎 1 Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted February 4, 2024 Super User Posted February 4, 2024 Alex, I used it less in 2023 than I did in 2022, remembering how many of you reported that the bass adjust to it in a hurry. Some mornings I didn't use it at all. I used poppers a lot because I fished those as a kid and so there's that tug of nostalgia. When I did use the Whopper Plopper, I kept switching up the size, make, and color. I used the underspin a lot too because the more you use it, the more you catch and the more you catch, the more confidence you have. And I used T-rigged worms more and more. Again, they're nostalgic. P. S. - You had something like a 55-bass day just a couple weeks back. 21 minutes ago, AlabamaSpothunter said: I can see a true monster coming up and hitting a big wake bait or buzzbait in 50d water, but the level of confidence to hang with it is the stuff of champions lol. I fished a swimbait last year as big as a bluegill. I think I only caught one on it, but I'm going to use it again this year because I expect that when I do catch something, there's a good chance she'll be big. 1 Quote
Woody B Posted February 4, 2024 Posted February 4, 2024 It's not OK to lie, but I suppose it's OK to pretend. I'm going to pretend I didn't go fishing yesterday or today. That doesn't smell as bad as the Skunk I caught. 5 Quote

Anyway, it's fun to use other lures too. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 5, 2024 Global Moderator Posted February 5, 2024 Only had a few hours yesterday. The lake I went to is mostly all dinks but that's all I've been catching this year so might as well stay close and catch them. Water just thawed back out 2 days ago, 40-42 degrees. Brought 5 rods and caught at least 1 on each rod. Also, every day I'm shocked by how clueless people are. Lady parked directly at the top of the ramp, blocking 1 of the 2 lanes, then went for a walk. I backed down and around her, then walked back up the ramp to take the picture. 17 3 Quote

Used to happen on my local lake all the time despite signs saying don’t block the ramps. People come on their lunch break and park right in the middle of the ramp so they have a nice view while they eat. Even had a lady once get out of her car and yell at me for messing up her view when I did what you did and went around her and launched anyway - lol. Or in summer, they back down and park at the waters edge and then let their kids use the ramp as their beach. 1 Quote

Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted February 5, 2024 Global Moderator Posted February 5, 2024 That happens about a dozen times per day at the ramps near my house 1 Quote
Super User gim Posted February 5, 2024 Super User Posted February 5, 2024 You've got to be fairly oblivious to your surroundings if you literally park IN the ramp. My Grandpa would refer to them as "sh** for brains." I don't encounter that here in MN but people do tend to park their boat and tie it up right IN the access. Then they go park and no one else can use the access until they've parked and come back to move their boat. People even do it when there are other designated docks for this and there are big signs on the access docks that say "NO PARKING LOAD/UNLOAD ZONE ONLY." 2 1 Quote
