Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted January 9, 2024 Global Moderator Posted January 9, 2024 Hahah thanks @AlabamaSpothunter, I just assumed it was a carp in the tail so I could remain somewhat calm 2 Quote
Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted January 9, 2024 Super User Posted January 9, 2024 Had a great day, caught 55 fish which is the most I can remember catching in a single day since I was a kid fishing a golf course pond for sub 12" Bass. Big fish was a 5.4. Caught some 4s, and 3s, but well over half the fish were sub 3lb fish. Best 5 would have likely been around 20lbs. This Drift Fry is really something else, today I both mopped and mid strolled it. Also vertical jigged quite a few fish on the Vaults. I'd say 30/55 fish came off it. The durability of this bait is incredible. The thing I never really mention is the fact that 2D sonar so many days is the most important piece of "tackle" in the boat, today included. It's such a novelty catching fish from sonar alone, I can only imagine FFS makes the novel experience 100x better. As I type it's dumping rain, and will be for the next many hours, it's also gusting 40-50mph, and then the rest of the week is equally unstable. The fish and pattern will scatter like the few remaining leaves of our trees. The puzzle will completely reset, and that's why we love these green fish. You go from mainlining the secret truth of the Bass universe to wondering if all the fish in your lake died within a span of a month. 26 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 9, 2024 Global Moderator Posted January 9, 2024 Made the first trip of the year to the power plant lake Saturday. Every report I've been hearing from there has been terrible. No fish and no size at all. I wasn't hoping for much, but actually had a really good numbers day, just wasn't able to find the big one I was hoping for. Still caught around 30, mostly on a Zman Big TRD on a 1/16oz head. They're not missing any meals. 26 Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted January 9, 2024 Super User Posted January 9, 2024 I'm going to start my 2024 fishing with the Drift Fry. Alex is having so much success with it that I'm thinking of going out this afternoon. It will lie on snow atop the ice, but I'm thinking a twitch and pause retrieve might work. Even fishing it on ice might be better than fishing it in Alex's 50 mph winds. As always, I love your fat fish, Officer 86. 2 2 Quote
fishingtx Posted January 9, 2024 Posted January 9, 2024 First tournament of 2024 ended pretty good. Weighed 5 fish for a total of 12.30lbs on Sam Rayburn this past Saturday putting us in 8th place and giving us a small check. If we would have fished the BFL event we would've placed 30th. 25 Quote
Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted January 10, 2024 Super User Posted January 10, 2024 @Bluebasser86 love seeing those fatties! Looked a little too cold for me though 😁 @benburkefishing great job, and great finish! Here's to an even better 2024! 4 Quote

Comparatively, it's barely supposed to make it to double digits this weekend 😒 4 Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted January 10, 2024 Super User Posted January 10, 2024 I love seeing young men catch bass and there are millions like me. Keep it going, @benburkefishing! 2 Quote
thediscochef Posted January 10, 2024 Posted January 10, 2024 I am so sick of this wind I could scream. Tried to go out today and backlashed on my second cast. I might not ever complete a 12-month challenge, January is impossible 1 6 Quote
Pat Brown Posted January 10, 2024 Posted January 10, 2024 Yeah the rain and wind really messed things up here too @thediscochef Let's hope when things stabilize the fish are hungry! 😎😎😎🎣🎣🎣 2 Quote

Looks like some bridge pilings were in the story somewhere. Yeah it’s a place called Wethersfield cove, awesome place for numbers but not normally size. From the cove you can take folly brook out to the CT river. The mouth of the cove/brook is killer during the tide change, and generally that’s when the bigger fish come out. These were caught on 7” Ramsey Core shot Curl tail worms. These photos are not from recently, but you can see the bridge and the brook from the previous photos in the background. Pretty sure Wethersfield cove used to be a pirate hangout at some point in history. 18 1 Quote
Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted January 11, 2024 Super User Posted January 11, 2024 You folks in the New England area that catch green fish amaze me! It's cultural down here, but up there you really have to march to your own beat to target them. 2 Quote

That’s the HIGH. Lol And yet some lakes are still open water here as of today. They will be frozen solid in a week. The fake winter was fun while it lasted. 1 Quote

First time I've ever been able to fish clear into January. We got a bunch of warm rain two days ago, but the extended forecast is looking like typical January. If it holds the lakes will have a lid on them by late next week. 2 Quote

It's been this way all year. With last year's spring being long, and unseasonably cold, everything's been about three weeks late this year. The spawn, weed growth, the fall cool down... That carried right over into winter. Ol Man Winter is on the way though. Snow all weekend, then temps falling into single digit lows, with highs in the teens and twenty's next week. Looking like an "interesting" work week for us truck drivers. 2 Quote

But yes, that sucka is long. Quote
