Beautiful mixed bag as always @TNRiver46!   Variety is the spice of life, not too many watersheds have more variety for an angler than the TN River.

Getting a fish feeder for the dock in a cpl. months, gonna be on like donkey kong.....straight back to 8yr old me...Gils and Kitties 😎

Got into a current seam and vertical jigged 5-6 drum with a small paddle tail bait and finally one white bass. I then tried a deep eddy and it was loaded with fish but I only got one crappie and dropped another of similar size. Couple bluegill sprinkled in ...

Seemingly very favorable conditions and what at the time seemed like a relatively small change in the pattern I've been on led to a day I'll never forget.   I believe that small change was trying out the red Vault, with a secondary aspect being I also received STX-38 Zo Wire Size 6s, the absolute perfect hook for this bait.

Fished 7+hrs, edited for 6.....turned into a 27min video 🙃

A true 50 fish day, right on the nail, it's like the Bass Gods gave me the 50 and then said now go home.

27lb+ bag.....7.6 and 6.4 weighed fish, with 3 easily in the 4-5lb range.

7.6 fish

6-4-on-red-blade.jpg

6-4-on-blade-bai.jpg

6.4 fish was super cool with the black spot tail and again so short and fat for relative weight chart metric.

7-7-on-red-vault3.jpg

7-7-on-red-vault2.jpg

The bait with upgraded hardware and my new favorite thing in the boat....the most magical lure retriever I've ever used.    Thing has freed these Vaults 20-25x now.    I'm sure they won't work perfect for everything like big A-Rigs, or maybe even single hooked baits, but for 2-3 hook treble baits, thing is incredible.

That is definitely a good day, I have not ever thought about changing out the hooks on those. I have the small red one I think 1/4, hard to go wrong with a blade bait.  I always enjoy seeing your reports this time of year when it’s starting to freeze over up here. I look forward to your next one.

Hey, @Jmurphy87!

Right now, Alex is casting. What story of glory will he have to tell this evening? Don't forget to tune in. Same BR channel. Same BR station!

We've all become Robin to Alex's Batman, struggling to keep up.

Thanks so much for the kind words and funny gifs guys and gal!!!!

Great day, we had a moderate steady rain overnight in which the outside temps were about 10d higher than the previous weeks' worth of nights, so to me it qualified as a "warm rain" which has shown to be among the best times to be on the water during the winter these last two.

Caught 32 + 2 big Crappie.......22lb+ bag, big fish was a 6.8, and a 5.15 got weighed as well.   Another close to 5, along with numerous 3+ fish rounded out today's bag.   Same pattern as the last 4 days......First hour after Dawn I'm throwing the Vision 110 at visually surface breaking fish, then I move on to the Vault where it does the vast majority of catching.

I like to use the BASS derby benchmarks in my fun fishing, and I've always thought one of the coolest things in the sport was the guys who earn Century Belts (100lbs+ over a 4 day event).     From Weds through today, my 20 fish total went roughly 93lbs.    In the past, 75-80lbs would have been my best.

My luck will surely run out on this deal, until then I'm going to ride it as hard as I can, and put it away wet each evening 😁

Big fish 6.8

@AlabamaSpothunter the Fashion Police suspects you’re sleeping out there at night since you appear to be wearing the same shirt every time. :police-035:

The BR gang should rent some pontoon boats, follow Alex from a respectful distance, watch, and take notes. I'll bring my binoculars and I urge others to do the same.

Officer Fashionista, I humbly submit the fact that rednecks don't own appropriate cold weather attire.    If you saw the poundage of layered clothing that comes off you Yanks would die of laughter 🤣

The high temp today was 24, so I actually wore a winter coat on my walk, but if it's the thirties, I'm good with a vest.

@AlabamaSpothunter killin it! You’re reeling in monster bags while I’m getting a foot of snow dumped on my head. Only a little jealous! Seriously though, way to go!

@AlabamaSpothunter

Heck of a way to start the new fishing year.

You are dialed in on that bite for sure.

With so many quality bass there,

I know it must be hard to even think about launching any where else.

Congrats and continues success.

Time for a new PB I'd say.

Tim, in the 1.5 years I've been an active member here, only your 2022 muskypalooza compares to what Alex is doing. And both of you achieved your catches on local lakes with docks and homes. Not O.H. Ivie or Lake Baccarac, but old lakes that have been pounded for decades.

Thank you for the kind words Katie. This year should have been even better, but I blew it by making a small change to my rig that ended up being a big deal to the fish. It took me WAAYYY too long to realize the issue, and it cost me a bunch of fish. Lesson finally learned though, and I've started 24 off with a few good ones. Fingers crossed for an epic March.

Alex is absolutely wrecking them lately. Happy as can be for him, and looking forward to seeing more of those winter sows of his.

As a former musky angler, Tim, what was your change? I do miss muskies, but my heart doesn't. They are a cardiologist's moneymaker when they're thrashing beside my canoe.

I make my maiden 2024 voyage today.  I still don't have a handle on the Winter bass but I managed 5.  4 small spots and a nice 17 1/2" Largemouth.  The Largemouth was my first of the day, and first of 2024.   Largemouth was hanging near a creek channel in 30 feet of water.  Spots were hugging the bank.   I didn't fish long.  The wind got terrible.   My phone said 20 mph sustained winds with 35 mph gusts.  The lake was white capping and it was almost impossible to cast.  I tried casting a Red Eyed Shad into the wind and almost took my head off.  Largemouth came on an A-rig.   3 spots on the Red Eyed Shad and one on a Jig.   I've taken a couple vacation days so I'll be back out tomorrow.

Also, fashion police,  just like Alex I have on the same 6 shirts I had on the last time.

Unable to find lightweight jig heads with a muskie worthy hook, I started rigging them on a 6/0 flippin hook with a bell sinker on the split ring as a keel weight.

image.png.8ebdb12290c86cd19ccb3a971f5ab2b9.png

This changed the action more than I realized, giving it more body roll and less kick. The musky sure noticed.  It caught fish, but not at nearly the rate I was catching them last year. I didn't even realize the difference in action until I put one on a jighead a couple weeks ago, then it was readily apparent. So... I went to the T-Billy Skunk Works and came up with this.

I modified my Manic Mullet mold's 5/16 cavity to accept a 6/0 Mustad 32850. Problem solved to the tune of a 31", a 40", a 42", and a 44" in three trips under tough conditions since January 1st.
