My buddy made it into town from Memphis about 12:30 pm Friday and I finally got home from work at 1. We hooked up the shallow boat and motored up thru some skinny water and were met immediately by hungry small fish. We ended up catching 39 but the last two I got were pretty nice, an 18” and 16.75”. Also got to see a nice sunset and a double rainbow once the rain finally stopped

So today we hook up the bigger boat and we’ve got all day. We went to different area, still shallow but not as shallow, thus allowing the bigger more comfy vessel. My buddy was on fire early catching lots of fish. We got all kind of 15-16” today that were fighting very hard . We ended up with 38 between 3 of us today but that was a 12 hour trip. Went from jeans and a jacket in the morning to shorts for wading then back to jeans and jacket for the evening. Air was cool today and wind was whipping . Round 3 tomorrow from 7:30-11 am or so then back to the real world

For fans of 'bleeding shad' pattern baits:

Thought this was super cool.

PS

Strike King:

How about your whole line of lipless crankbaits but silent and with yellow eyes? 😉

Signed, a fisherman who knows this would sell and work really well to catch pressured fish who are over rattles and red eyes.

Great write up and pics, but the only thing I heard was, "I have two boats.  What's wrong with you that you have one boat?"  And this makes perfect sense to me.  Getting on FB Marketplace right now.

Of course otherwise you can just be me for the past two years and throw a topwater and not feel anything until you throw something that isn’t a topwater, lol.

This is me too.  They won't hit topwater.  Frogs, buzzers, poppers, spooks, etc.  Doesn't matter, they don't hit it.  I used to catch quite a few largemouth on buzz baits and frogs too, but for the last 5 years or so, the topwater bite has been almost non-existent.  I don't force feed fish if something isn't effective, so my topwater are currently going un-used.

The fish are still there, and I catch them on other presentations.  I am almost 100% sure that its related to increased fishing pressure, and I have contributed to that.

Agreed! I always enjoy @TnRiver46's accounts and photos. It's clear that he loves fishing and being on the water.

A frank assessment by an honest man. On my less-fished water at the same latitude, the bass are still slap-happy to hit topwaters.

I am going tomorrow to a lake that has less pressure and back in August I did very well there on moving lures.  I always have a topwater ready, I will give it a try tomorrow.

Cold and windy this morning. Haven’t been on the water as much as I’d like this fall so I was super stoked to get out. Fishing was tough. Wind was tougher. Managed a decent one on a spinnerbait while fighting the constant breeze. Couple other short strikes.

Gonna be looking for a giant the next couple weeks. The season is ending rapidly.

@Jar11591 between you posting, the darkness of the photo, the clouds overhead, and what you are wearing, I didn't even have to guess what you caught the fish on. Lol. Nice fish man. Hope you're able to get some good trips in before winter takes hold

Have tried to get out more, but its been rough at home for me. I did go out a few times in the past few days and got some fish, missed a headwaters trip this weekend. I hope to get out there next week or the week after. Hoping things get better soon and I can get some more time on the water.

They loving the Rat-L-Traps. Also, the small swimbaits. I have been having good luck with both.

Nothing big today but I got on some bass with a walking bait. Always a good time. Probably had five or six fish miss the bait but had just as many get it. This was as big as they got though. It was 46 degrees when I got to the lake. I'm not as bundled up as it looks lol

46??? It's 48 here, halfway to the North Pole, at 4:58 a.m.!

And, yeah, I'm going fishing. I'm hooked deeper than any bass.

Nice catch, @Dominat0r!

Regarding waiting on a topwater hit until you feel the fish.  I know, I just can't make myself do it.

I was busy yesterday so I'm posting yesterdays (Sundays) report this morning.  Temperatures dropped over night.  It was 41 when I left my house, 43 when I got to the landing.  Water temperature dropped a couple degrees too.  (76 to 74).   I attempted to target Largemouth Saturday but I figured the temperature drop would slow things down.   To keep decent numbers I stayed on the main lake for Spots.   I ended up catching 7.    I launched by boat at 7.  I usually post pictures of my first and last.  First was a dink spot at 7:15.  I wasn't going to post it, but decided to stay consistent.  My second was my only Largemouth of the day at 7:17.   The last was a snake pattered Spot at 9:48.   2 of the 7 were dinks, the rest were 14" to 16".   Largemouth was on a T-rig.  All the spots were on cranks.

I have a busy day today so I only threw topwater from about 7-8am. Had a few nice hits on a walking bait and then my first ever crawler fishes on back to back casts. Neat

"My name is Katie and I'm a bass addict."

I'm imagining you guys saying, "Hi, Katie."

Yeah, I'm addicted. I said I was done for 2023, but then it rained 5.25" yesterday and that much rain can rile bass, so I fished again this morning and I'm so glad I did. For the first half hour, I was wondering if I was going to get skunked, as I caught nothing but the sunset below.

Then I started catching some Maine Butterballs in a river that flowed into the pond. There's a photo of the river followed by six Butterballs.

Then a photo of a shoreline so you can see how Maine is browning.

Then I caught a bigger one.

I'd caught 18 bass at that point, using a bone-colored popper, a chrome Whopper Plopper, and a bluegill-colored squarebill with a fast retrieve/pause action. I tried a spinnerbait too, but nada.

I was headed home and could see where I launched. The water was roaring out of the pond. I'd never caught bass there, but I guessed that today might be different with so much current. Boy, was I right!

The next two pics are where I was fishing, an area 25' across with two strainers/laydowns. Using a wacky rig with a 7" Senko and my reel/pause squarebill, I caught another 13 bass, including some thick ones and there are photos of the biggest. I loved pulling those fine bass out of that tight spot. You can't see the current from the photos, but beyond the two laydowns, it was all whitewater. My final tally was 31 bass, a pretty good count for a browning and blue fall day.

Had arguably the best outing of the season on largemouth today, at least for quality fish.  My friend and I caught 22 largies and 4 pike in about 5 hours.  Almost all the fish were caught on a slow-moving chatter bait in shallow water.  We had to reel it as slow as possible because the water has dropped to 57 degrees here now.  5 of the largemouth were 18 inches or bigger, including a 19.5 incher that weighed over 5 pounds that he caught.  It was his biggest largemouth this season.  It was 40 degrees air temp when we started but by 10am it was quite comfortable out there in the bright fall sunshine.  Never saw another soul out there the whole time, and the leaves are about 50% peak colors here now.

Big bass

I watched him pile into that tanker too.  It came out from under a big dock system still in the lake (about half the docks have been pulled from the lake now).  When he set the hook, I saw his rod bend over and I knew it was a good one.  I don't normally weigh many of my fish, but when we catch a bigger fatter one it goes on the digital scale.  It was 5.02 pounds and measured 19.5 inches.

Thanks for sharing the details of the catch.

I caught my biggest bass this morning bumping a big Senko on the bottom in the current at the pond's outflow. When she hit, I didn't feel it, but saw the line head up current. I waited one second, set the hook, and saw her turn down current. If she ducked under the liedown, I would likely have lost her, so I used the strength of my MH rod and 20 lb. braid to turn her. When she saw the net, she ran again.

She was just hooked in the upper lip. She's the one on the bump board. See the hump of her midsection? I love when they do that, when they're not flat bass, but a hill of muscle.
