Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted July 27, 2023 Global Moderator Posted July 27, 2023 Pretty small but it’s more meat than none. Couple of them def had the black spot disease but you can still eat them, we have that at home too. It’s kind of a fascinating parasite life cycle, infects a snail, a belted king fisher, and then the fish 1 Quote
thediscochef Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 I caught this same fish yesterday. This time on a 3/4oz red eye shad. I'm gonna go to a different spot tomorrow and give her a break. Also caught a few little spotted bass but they weren't as hot today as they were yesterday. Never feels bad to pull four pounds though. 15 1 Quote

You're not going to catch her again today, eh? So, where exactly did you catch her? Be very precise. Actually, I'm glad you're giving her a break. You're not just a good fisherman. You're a GOOD fisherman. P. S. - I love those four-pounders too. That's when they start to feel special. 1 Quote

The hits were within 20 yards of each other. I feel kind of bad because I know she has to be worn out by now, plus all the hook wounds. I did a good job of keeping my hooks in the right places but still. There was a tournament weigh in there tuesday night, it's realistic possibility that fish has been caught three times this week. 1 Quote

Sometimes a skunk-beater is as good as it gets, and I didn't harpoon my finger with a treble hook this time. No siree. I'll take it! Tough night for me last night too. We had some storms roll through. I had to haul butt to the ramp and ride em out in the truck twice. Only managed a handfull of dink LM and a 2# eye. I thought maybe the wind on the front side of the storms might get 'em chewing, but... NOPE!!! All good though. Tough bites make us appreciate the good ones. 2 Quote

Worked four zones with 6 baits over 3 hours, and my photo'd catches all came very quickly, but I couldn't find anything else other than a few basslings on mini jigs in those areas until I moved down. The water's quite low here already with the drought, and they're scattered again just like they were this time last year. Tis what it is. 2 1 Quote

Been dry and stable here for awhile, with not much wind. Last night the pressure was falling fast, blowing 10-15 straight onto the wide, slow tapering point where I've been catching those good ones. It's got a 150yd long strip of hydrilla in the 4'-5' range with a hard edge, then some stubble on the outside out to 8' or so. I got there with HIGH hopes. Everytime I think I know what I'm doing.......... LOL. 2 Quote

Super User Team9nine Posted July 27, 2023 Super User Posted July 27, 2023 High 80s with dewpoints in the upper 70s made it miserable outside, but storms just south of me brought some cloud cover, so I made a dash to a small lake to try and catch a few - tomorrow is high in the upper 90s with heat indexes in the 100s. Managed a baker’s dozen which wasn’t bad since this spot has a big year class of bass running 14” or better - decent sized fish. You rarely catch dinks but you rarely catch big bass, either. Today’s largest was 17.5”, and most fish here run between 1.5 to 3 pounds. Everything split between wacky and Ned today. 14 Quote

Are you bouncing a Ned rig off a weedy bottom? I haven't used a Ned rig once this year fearing I'd be weed fishing. Quote

There is some deeper open water outside the weedline, but more/most bites come at it, so its inevitable you “catch” them…but it’s mostly Chara, so you can snatch it through the tops of it pretty well, and half the time they eat it while still attached to the weed stem ? 2 Quote
Dominat0r Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 My streak continues, pouring now and suppose to for the rest of the night, but got out there right before the storm happened. Broke off a HUGE snakehead, at least 10lbs if not more. Stupid thing ran under the drain pipe and scrapped my line, had him on the shore and boom, line snaps. Got these 2 of a Rat-L-Trap. 12 Quote
Super User J._Bricker Posted July 27, 2023 Super User Posted July 27, 2023 I was running down the channel, which is an opportunity to cool off a bit when it’s 95 and there’s no wind to speak of. Anyway, I went by a mat about 40 yards long that probably doesn’t get fished because everyone just goes by it like I was doing and paying no attention to it. So I said to myself, “Self, you outta’ fish that mat because you probably won’t later. After all, you’re here”. Good thing I stopped. Pulled 8 bass out of that mat out of 10 bites including my biggest of the day, this 3.64 crawdad eating Delta bass. 24 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted July 27, 2023 Global Moderator Posted July 27, 2023 I’ve posted this many times here before but I’ll do it again…… we ❤️ Michigan!!!!!!! the bigger fish got wrapped up in a logjam as we zoomed by Mach 3 in the canoe. I clicked it to backreel and said honey please paddle backwards as hard as you can. I could see the fish hung up still when we got back to it. I jumped in to free it, iPhone still in my pocket (still works great). I thought it was gone and my line wouldn’t come loose, then a few toobers and kayakers came by and asked what I was doing. I told them I lost it, then I saw it again!!!! Grabbed the tag end and landed it , totally blew their mind! Thanks wife for paddling and photos and thanks to seaguar 6 lb floro for not breaking in a log jam in swift current attached to a bass 27 Quote

Super User Swamp Girl Posted July 28, 2023 Super User Posted July 28, 2023 @TnRiver46: This is in the BR bylaws: "Any fisher who goes in the water to retrieve a bass gets to double the weight of the bass." 4 Quote

thediscochef Posted July 28, 2023 Posted July 28, 2023 Found another good bite at sunrise, fished to about 9am. Two of the five tiny spotted bass and the only LM are pictured, the black bass only wanted the tiny pop-r today. A massive school of white bass showed up and I picked off 7 juveniles with a red eye shad. They were moving fast and puking shad all over me. It's been a good morning. 19 Quote

Might get my chance Sunday down here, a couple hours south of you, on a stretch that hopefully won't have too much weekend traffic. 2 Quote
