I don’t think there are tons of Alabama bass where I live yet but definitely some. Lakes on the little Tennessee like fontana and tellico have a lot of them. They seem to radiate from the mountains

4th to last pic/fatster is my favorite, and that lake looks big, quite different than your normal places.  

 

I didn't roam the pond like I usually do. The kayak was so short that it couldn't track in a straight line. I'd paddle on the right side and the kayak would turn to the left and vice-versa. So, I pretty much fished one spot. I started shallow in the weeds and caught nothing, which was no surprise since it was still bright and the bass weren't going to risk being seen by the raptors. So, I went deep and had a little luck and basically followed them into the shallows as the light faded. 

 

I'm glad you get a kick out of those chubby bass too! They're funny looking, aren't they?

 

Playing that 19.25-incher in the dark was both exciting and scary.

I know better than to go fishing after my wife makes tacos for dinner, but I was jonesing after missing all these days, so I bucked up and hoped for the best. Quickly popped a decent scrapper on the Zman Pro Crawz, then the bite went dead. Post spawn struggles are par for the course at my ponds during these 2 weeks in June, and it's hit or miss trying to catch a bite window, but I was in it for the long haul. Darkness fell eventually and I was out of ideas, so I tied on a coppertruese finesse TRD and went to work. A mongo yellow perch scooped it up and I was hoping things might finally light up a bit, but like a shot to the gut the gurgling began. I figured my odds were 50/50, but I was unwilling to bet on a bubble and lose, and with cold sweat creeping over me I clinched down to my toes and flew home for dear life and my sacred honor. By some miracle I caught green lights all the way and just made it, barely.

Ha! I caught a snapper on the whopper-plopper last summer. He did NOT like it when I tried to remove the hooks. He was so unfriendly I chose not to name him. He was angry, I was angry. It was not a fun time.

Bawhahahaha.......nothing worse than when that gurgle kicks up on the water, you're playing deadly games once you start that game.

Little night time therapy.....I have made it a mission to catch a bass every day for the whole summer. Since I can walk down to my pond in like 2 mins, I can hit the moonrise and dusk.

And they are the fastest turtle ever on dry land. The only time they leave the water is to lay eggs and if they are startled, they can seriously run to the water. I've never seen anything like it.

Wow Katie! You are crushing them. I know you've invited me up but its a couple thousand miles from Tennessee! I am slowing regaining my natural color from the deep green from a few minutes ago! One of these days though........sausage and taters and a boat load of bass!

I know it's horribly far, Bob. However, it is Maine, i.e. waves crashing against pink granite (Google "Schoodic Maine" and click on images.) and Camden, a town with not one downtown waterfalls, but two, and a harbor full of 1800s sailing ships. And then there's taters and sage chicken sausage sizzling in my kitchen! 

 

However, the distance does daunt. It daunts me too, for I've friends I'd love to visit in Tennessee, including you. 

 

Speaking of snappers, I was paddling a bog a couple days ago and I happened to look down and to my right just as I was about to paddle on that side and a snapper was suspended there inches below the surface. It was big, but aren't they all? I don't think I've ever seen a small snapper.

Had a pretty decent bite today considering we were just sliding on to the back side of a high pressure system that moved through overnight, and a breeze that had already shifted to coming out of the north. The lingering cloud cover probably helped in that regard. Picked up a couple dozen today, along with another dozen last night when I went out to test a presentation that popped into my head. Was able to land the one big bite I got, a nice bass that inhaled a finesse jig on the fall that was cast right over the only well defined depth breakline in the entire lake.

 

 

And for the curious; I’m wearing shorts, not jeans with even bigger holes in the knees, and it started out in the mid 60s today, so I grabbed the flannel again today to wear over my clean T-shirt (more versatile than a jacket) ?

@Woody B Although I don’t drink iced tea I’ve had this happen to me several times reading some of the comments on here myself. @ol'crickety although this isn’t a direct response to your earlier post this is yet another reason why I at least find this site so appealing in that no matter what the topic the range of answers cover every spectrum from….and I’m trying to find the right words here? from serious to silly is the best I can come up with currently.

Well, sometimes you get lucky and today that was me 

 

We were just sitting around the house today after work and about 6 pm I convinced my wife we should go for a boat ride, even though it was a tad windier than normal.  She was driving the boat and knowing we didn’t have much time, tried stopping at a few usual spots and there were pleasure boats sitting in most of them. She stops at a random clay bank and I started working the RAD 1.5 squarebill and got a small LM, lost a decent SM that short lined it and I tried boat flipping while the fish was still bananas and he fell back in.

Then I saw a kayaker down the bank we were fishing so I trolled to the opposite side of the river and cranked the rip rap. I thought I was stuck in a gob of milfoil and then felt a fish, then it jumped…….. a nice LM! Don’t get those often near my house and Ive hooked 2 in 2 days! It jumped several more times but stayed pinned, I had it with both hooks. Guess she wanted it! Ended up going somewhere between 20 and 21”.

What did you do with the guy who wears obnoxious UT appareal and catches small TN River LGMs??????????     We liked that guy, please don't harm him ?

 

You better go back out tomorrow, make it 3 for 3......those are some really nice fish, congrats.
