Both come through the junk cleanly because of this bait's sleek nose shape, and even unweighted, it casts like a bullet. When they won't come up for a frog, they may come up for something just under the surface, and when they won't come up even a little, slowing down might be the ticket. Fish it fast sometimes like a buzzbait. It has no blades to get fouled up. But also creep it very slowly like a swimbait where the legs are barely kicking. It's a compact and very eatable presentation that has been the ticket for me many times over the years in the intensely choked out waters where I fish. Thank you,I will definitely give that a try. I had a couple hits working the weed line where it drops off butted up to a small pad field. I caught a couple of 3lb ones off the little pocket last year. I also figured that it should be broke up a little bit through there. It seemed like there is a small open spot on the side, where I didn’t get all fouled up as quickly. 2 Quote
keagbassr Posted June 9, 2023 Posted June 9, 2023 So, after Wednesdays outing where the fish were practically jumping in the boat I had to squeeze in another short trip on Thursday hoping they'd still be up and chasing. Unfortunately they were not. Still managed to grab 9 on 5 different baits with a 3-7 on a moss mouse and a 4-9 on a double wide beaver. 24 Quote

hokiehunter373 Posted June 9, 2023 Posted June 9, 2023 Got out for an hour with my buddy even though I didn't think there'd be much of a bite with last nights conditions. Started with a square bill with no action. Wanted to catch a fish so Beau could have a lick so I tossed the in-line spinner and got a sunny and then a tiny little bass. Beau approved. Picked up the wacky worm and caught a few 1ish pound largies. Snapped off on my best one on the hook set because the drag was set to tight ?♂️Felt like the fish were pulled back and deeper and while I hate running a crank from the bank I figured I'd try to see if I could get a reaction from any of them before it inevitably was in the weeds. I did not. Butttt just as I was about to set it down I saw a decent swirl right up on the rocks. Tossed the crank over, it landed just out of the water on the rocks, and the bass tried to eat it out of the water! Gave it a little tug so it got in the water and he smashed it. Set the hook and he ran hard. Just a little 2 pounder but a super fun eat and good fight. Finally going to get an extended session Sunday morning with my dad. Hopefully I can report back with a new PB. 17 Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted June 9, 2023 Super User Posted June 9, 2023 Work was light this week so I got out for my annual plastics only outing wednesday evening and again this morning to see how my favorite lake was doing. Nothing special either trip, just a couple fish here and there. Today was tougher than I thought it should be. The bass were on the beds a month ago and the bluegills are on beds now. There are a bunch of weedlines with 10' of gravel between them and shore which makes for good times when the bluegills are back in there (like they are now). The bass will sit on the edges for any gills that stray from their beds. Everything was lining up for a good bite. It was not to be though. I think the 48 degree air overnight dropped the temp in the shallows and pushed the bass on the deeper side of the weeds. I tried in vain with a buzzbait for a solid 2 hours in the dark/lowlight/dawn and only managed to pull up 3 fish (two of which were pickerel), none of which managed to actually catch a hook. When it got light enough, i thought "what would Catt do" and picked up the texas rig. All three caught were on the deeper weed edges (two on a palmetto bug on the first pass, one on a rage craw working back through it). 18 Quote

Super User Team9nine Posted June 10, 2023 Super User Posted June 10, 2023 High pressure, sunny skies, light N breeze at best and an early afternoon fishing time that combined with a heavily treated lake (algae) all conspired against any chances at a good bite today. No late window big bait fishing either, so called it after 21 fish and 2 hours. Tubes and wacky rig for what I did catch. 17 Quote
NJBasstard Posted June 10, 2023 Posted June 10, 2023 Had a few hours to spare and won't get out again til next week so I hit the lake again. Tough bite but managed to get 4 bass and 2 snakeheads. Jig, Dogma 100 & Trace all got bit. Here's my last one of the day.. 14 Quote

Super User BrianMDTX Posted June 10, 2023 Super User Posted June 10, 2023 Not a bad three hours this morning. Caught 5 bass, missed 3 and got a big cat trapped in the line lol. First one on a chatterbait. The rest on a weightless Fat IKA TR. The chatterbait bass was missing most of his tail. Tough spawning, unless it was a snapping turtle (haven’t seen any and no gators in this pond). The last bass was a dink. One I didn’t get pics as I needed to get it in the water fast. 23 Quote
Super User gim Posted June 10, 2023 Super User Posted June 10, 2023 I went locally for a few hours this morning and did pretty decent, including my biggest largie of the season so far. Had to fish slow to get bit. By 10am, the recreational boats started to emerge and I left that circus. 27 Quote
gunsinger Posted June 10, 2023 Posted June 10, 2023 Took a friend out this am. I boated 10 from 1 - 3 lbs. he scored 3. This was only his second time to bass fish. This was his highlight of the day. 29 Quote
Woody B Posted June 10, 2023 Posted June 10, 2023 I went from 5:30 until 10 today. Got 13 Bass, a 12 inch Crappie and an 11 Pound Catfish. Biggest bass was a 3.36 pound Spot. 21 Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted June 10, 2023 Super User Posted June 10, 2023 Fished from 5am until 10:30am. Was a cold, foggy calm morning. It seemed impossibly calm. Today was the definition of junk fishing. Never put a real pattern together but I caught em on everything I threw. Senkos, T-rigged Rage Bugs, poppers, weedless frogs, and spinnerbaits. I love a good junk fishin session. Got on my first weedless frog bite of the year, as we finally have some emergent vegetation. Played cat and mouse with this one for 10 minutes until the cat finally got its prey: Caught 3 different fish with sores like this on their face. If anybody has any idea about what would cause this, please share. I’m emailing photos to the DEC, as this has me a little concerned. This next fish was one of the crazier catches I’ve ever had. Was casting a PopX over a patch of pond weed, and got a blow up. Set the hook and my line broke at the reel. I was pretty upset at losing a fish and a $20 lure, but I noticed my line still sitting on top of the water. Put the TM on high and made it to the line while it was still floating. Grabbed it and started pulling, and to my surprise the fish was still hooked! Only a little guy, but I thought I had lost a fish and a $20 lure but turns out I saved both: Got some good fish as well. Seems like the fish are in their summer pattern, because the big girls have started haunting their deep structure. As usual, spinnerbait picked up the biggest fish at 4-9. Felt great to stick some good fish. It’s been a bit post-spawn dink fest here but ended that today. Bass thumb has been re-achieved ? 27 1 Quote

Man that part of NY is stunningly beautiful, awesome fish on that spinnerwidget! I don't know what causes that mouth rash, but some fish I've caught recently have had it as well. Likely just seasonal, these fish are so beat up after spawn, I assume it's just from either gorging themselves or from the actual toll of finishing up the spawn. 1 Quote

Yeah I’m lucky to live in such close proximity to the Adirondacks. The scenery and fishing opportunities are endless! I’ve caught fish with all kinds of sores and wounds and other maladies, but it was weird to catch 3 in row with the same sore on the same spot. Hopefully no cause for concern. The lake and bass seem as healthy as ever. 1 Quote

For folks like us, we're always thinking about the Bass's health the moment it hits our hands, it's a blessing and a curse......known plenty of CnR anglers that were oblivious to Bass biology, or the future view of a fishery in terms of fishery and Bass health....they just got to enjoy catching fish, seemed nice lol. It's hard to rationalize my empathy for the Black Bass, I seemingly have more empathy for a fish than many humans, but then I like most dogs and cats more than people as well. Jmurphy87 Posted June 10, 2023 Posted June 10, 2023 Took my daughter out for a afternoon session, I told her to tell everyone that she caught the fish she was in the picture in. She told me that she would not lie and say that she caught the fish if she didn’t catch it. All in all a good session, finally caught a decent fish on a doob tube. That was a while to complete, odd sense I really like the color. The tubes are ok at best, I saw the fish when I was working it back next to a tiny mat, completely ignored it. I then lost sight of the fish and decided to pitch it right back where I saw it last, bingo fish on. I thought it was smaller until I hooked it and was like that’s a decent runt lol, I have high standards under 5lbs and it’s small. I also caught my first frog fish of the year, first blow up and hookup. Not huge but he was fiesty and right on the shade line up under a tree where they should be. I was sort of sad that my daughter got skunked but she still had a blast with dad and that’s more important than me catching any fish at all. 23 Quote
